Bent V. Petersen

The memorial service for Bent V. Petersen will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Medford. Pastor Joyce DeGraaff will officiate.

Mr. Petersen, 89, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born June 12, 1911, in Richfield, Utah, a son of Peter and Margrethe (Jensen) Petersen. On March 18, 1939, in Grand Island, Neb., he married Mildred Arent, who died in 2000. He studied industrial engineering at the University of California and received his certificate.

Mr. Petersen worked for International Atlas at Oakland International Airport overseeing the logistics involved in setting up nine hangars to strip and rebuild aircraft.

After moving to the Rogue Valley in 1965, from Oakland, Calif., he worked in engineering at Timber Products and as a chef at the Dandanelles, now Sammy’s Gato Gordo and at the Holiday Inn. He then accepted a position as a draftsman with the City of Ashland’s engineering department, and eventually took over the management of its warehouse. He retired in 1976.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in Okinawa.

Mr. Petersen was a 74-year member of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1971 the Crater Lake Council awarded him the Silver Beaver, the highest award a council can bestow. In Oakland and Medford, he was named top scoutmaster four times.

He was also a Rogue Federal credit Union board member and opened the Ashland branch. He was a member of Toastmasters and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1833, Medford.

Mr. Petersen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medford, where he served as a Deacon and Elder.

He enjoyed playing Santa Claus, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Margie Weck, Medford; a sister, Eleanor Mehrens, Joplin, Mo.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale; and two brothers, Harold and William.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Jennie Grace Allen

The memorial service for Jennie Grace Allen will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Evans Valley Bible Church in Rogue River. Pastor Dan O’Donnell of the Rogue Valley Community Church will officiate. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Allen, 100, of Rogue River, died Feb. 4, 2001, at a Grants Pass adult foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evans Valley Bible Church, 7924 E. Evans Creek Road, Rogue River, OR 97537.

She was born Jennie Grace Garman on Oct. 14, 1900, in Glendale, Ariz. On June 20, 1920, in Tacoma, Wash., she married Leo Allen, who preceded her in death. They moved to Glendale, Ore., in 1938, and to Rogue River in 1969.

Mrs. Allen was a homemaker, and a member of the Evans Valley Bible Church.

She enjoyed reading, church and spending time with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Leo, Glendale, Gene, Charleston, Roy, Rogue River, and Stanley, Grants Pass; a daughter, Ruth Brown, San Diego; two sisters, Betty Vinson, Portland, and Lois Johnson, Seattle; a brother, Clyde Garman, Tucson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Telling; two sisters, Ruth Gund, and Belle Reel; and a brother, Paul Garman.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Phyllis Jean Epperson

The memorial service for Phyllis Jean "Jeannie" Epperson will be at noon today at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. The Rev. Paul McQueen will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Epperson, 75, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank at the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 390, Phoenix, OR 97535, or the Heart Fund, c/o Alpha Chapter No. 1 O.E.S., 570 Clover Lane, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Indianapolis, a daughter of Marshall and Alice (Marley) King. On Sept. 7, 1943, in Indianapolis, she married Charles Epperson, who died in 1970. They moved to the Rogue Valley 54 years ago from Indiana.

Mrs. Epperson was a dietary aide for Rogue Valley Medical Center for 31 years, retiring in 1999.

She was a member and Deaconess at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. She was Worthy Matron three times for Alpha Chapter 1 Order of the Eastern Star in Ashland; past president of Mary E. McCall’s Past Matrons O.E.S. Association; and Past Grand Representative of Ohio in Oregon, O.E.S Alpha Chapter 1, Ashland.

Mrs. Epperson enjoyed sewing, helping people, and garage sales.

Survivors include three daughters, Laura Matheus, White City, Charleen Shafer, Central Point, and Cheryl Cordier-Jolley, Sparks, Nev.; a sister, Maxine Knoy, in Indiana; three brothers, Raymond King and Marshall King Jr., both in Indiana, and Bob King, in Florida; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A son, Charles Dwight, preceded her in death.

Teresa An Madison

The memorial service for Teresa An Madison will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Unitarianist meeting at the Grants Pass Museum of Arts Building, 229 S.W. G St., Grants Pass. The Rev. Ruth Miller will officiate.

Ms. Madison, 54, of Grants Pass, died Feb. 5, 2001 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 25, 1946, in El Cajon, Calif. On March 3, 1973, in El Cajon, she married Cliff Boger, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass from El Cajon in 1977.

Ms. Madison was a member of the Unitarian Church, the National Organization of Women, the Sierra Club and the Grants Pass Museum of Art.

She enjoyed art, gardening and wildlife.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Adam Boger, Grants Pass; her mother, Buela Madison, El Cajon, Calif.; two brothers, Adrian Madison, El Cajon, Calif., and Jim Frommer, San Diego; a sister, Janice Moon, Lakeside, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Loucille C. Keener

The memorial Mass for Loucille Clementine Keener will be at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. William Dillard will officiate. At 2 p.m. today, the Women of the Moose will hold a memorial service at the Medford Moose Lodge, 226 N. Ross Lane, Medford.

Mrs. Keener, 73, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Loucille Wiedower on March 31, 1927, in Vinita, Okla. On Nov. 19, 1949, in Medford, she married John Keener, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 53 years ago.

Mrs. Keener was a member of the Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary and Women of the Moose.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Tonya Guenther, Charlotte, N.C., and Jonellyn Dittenhauser, Hartsville, S.C.; a brother, John Wiedower, Vinita, Okla.; five sisters, Marie Calhoun, Medford, Teri Hutchinson, Weeping Water, Neb., Emma Joe Hays, The Dalles, Betty Rezac, Cool, Calif., and Elizabeth Coch, Shawnee, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Phyllis J. Epperson

The memorial service for Phyllis J. Epperson will be at noon Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. The Rev. Paul McQueen will officiate.

Mrs. Epperson, 75, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) in Medford.

Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford.

Guadalupe M. Solis

The funeral Mass for Guadalupe M. Solis will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. The Rev. Brendan McAnerney will officiate. Interment will follow in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Mrs. Solis, 67, of Ashland, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Oregon Chapter, 4412 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 220, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Mexico City, a daughter of Telesforo and Guillermina (Guerrero) Marquez. On Dec. 27, 1951, in Mexico City, she married Luis A. Solis, who survives. They moved to Greenfield, Calif., in 1960, and to Ashland six years ago.

Mrs. Solis worked at Basic Vegetable Products of King City, Calif., for 10 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland.

Mrs. Solis enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Luis Jr., Napa, Calif., Wilbert, Greenfield, Calif., and Ruben, Fairfield, Calif.; three daughters, Carolina Senestraro, Ashland, Maria Hurdle, Sacramento, Calif., and Gladys Ledo, Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Concepcion and Juan Marquez, both in Mexico; three sisters, Columba Beffa, Greenfield, Calif., and Carmela Marquez and Virginia Barocia, both in Mexico; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Friends may pay their respects Thursday following the rosary until 9 p.m. at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
