Cecilia Regina Edwards
Cecilia Regina Edwards, 89, of Talent, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at a Medford care home. No service is planned.

She was born Cecilia Randolph in New York on Oct. 25, 1911. At age two, she rode the orphan train to Beatrice, Neb., where she was adopted and raised by Frank and Mary (Falk) Mitlawski. On Dec. 10, 1933, she married Vern E. Edwards, who survives. They moved to the San Francisco East Bay area in 1948. In 1966, they moved to the Ashland-Talent area.
Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Gregory L., Roseburg; two daughters, DeAnna LaBrensz, Talent, and Susan Rivers, Chandler, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Mitlawski.

Helen Ella Sasser
Helen Ella Sasser, 79, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home. A private graveside service will be held at Park View Cemetery in Manteca, Calif.

She was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of DeRosa and Susan Smith. On Oct. 6, 1941, in Reno, Nev., she married Howard E. Sasser, who died in 1996. They moved to Central Point from Madera, Calif., 11 years ago.
Mrs. Sasser was a homemaker.
She was a member of New Life Church of God.
Mrs. Sasser enjoyed sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles and reading her Bible.
Survivors include a son, Gene, Las Vegas; a daughter, Patricia Sasser, Central Point; two brothers, Daniel Smith, Manteca, Calif., and Glenn Smith, Stockton, Calif.; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Oscar Smith.
Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.
Viona Lacy
A celebration of the life of Viona Lacy will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Pythian Hall, 151 S.E. Second St., Second Floor, Hillsboro.
Mrs. Lacy, 70, of Hillsboro, formerly of Central Point, died Feb. 7, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital, of cancer.

She was born March 6, 1930, in Portland, the daughter of Andrew John and Olive Anetta (Mark) Haugen. She was raised and schooled in Sheridan, and graduated from high school in 1948. She attended what is now Oregon State University for one year. On Oct. 8, 1950, in Oakland, Calif., she married Don Lacy, who survives. They lived in Central Point from 1953 to 1969, when they moved to Hillsboro.
Mrs. Lacy was a full-time volunteer. She was a founder of the original Friends of the Library, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Bank and Meals-on-Wheels. She also worked on the Washington County Elections Board for a number of years, and on the Metro Transportation Study Committee, participating in public hearings and committee meetings on a variety of Metro transportation projects. She was involved with and supported the Special Olympics, and during the holidays was Mrs. Claus for "Share-The-Spirit, " along with her husband, bringing joy to hospitalized and sheltered children and elders each year.
She was a member of the Hillsboro Kiwanis, where she headed the SMART program (Start Making A Reader Today), and was a member of the Sheridan Women’s Study Club and the Washington County Extension. She was a longtime member of the League of Women Voters, where she helped edit the Oregon Voter. She was also a member of Pythian Sisters, Phoenicia Temple No. 10 and was the Supreme Representative, as well as the Past Grand Royal Advisor for the Pythian Sunshine Girls.
Mrs. Lacy was an avid reader. She enjoyed her family, camping, cooking and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Kathlene Dawn Lacy, Portland, Maureen Viona Murphy, Forest Grove, and Shelley Karin Corby, Aloha, and Brenda Ann Branson, Abington, Pa.; a son, John Douglas, Hillsboro; a brother, Gordon Haugen, Beaverton; a twin sister, Annetta "Ann" Scott, McMinnville; and eight grandchildren.

Helen Wentworth
Helen Wentworth, 96, of Rogue River, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at Fairview Transitional Health Center. A private service will be held.

She was born Dec. 12, 1904, in Macon, Mo. In 1928, in Bismarck, N.D., she married Lloyd Wentworth, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Wentworth worked for the North Dakota State Compensation Bureau for several years, retiring to the Rogue River area in 1950. Before her marriage, she taught school for a few years.
Survivors include a sister, Janet Seeley, Minneapolis; and a brother, Alfred Caldwell, Cass Lake, Minn.

Evelyn Deane Howze
Evelyn Deane Howze, 68, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home. A private service was held.

She was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Wichita, Kan., a daughter of Tharon and Thelma Hagler.
Ms. Howze was a bookkeeper at Summit Toyota and D & R Auto Parts in Klamath Falls. She also worked at Klamoya Casino in Chiloquin.
She enjoyed eagles, fishing, reading and crocheting.
Survivors include three sons, Zeb and Sid Howze, both in Florida, and Ed Beeman, Lenexa, Kan.; her mother, Velma Hagler, Medford; three sisters, Sharon Johnson and Frieda Stovern, both Medford, and Illaine McGillivray, Klamath Falls; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Hagler.

Leon Bracknell Erwin
The graveside service for Leon Bracknell Erwin will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Erwin, 75, of Talent, died Feb. 3, 2001, at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Blanche Ross
The funeral service for Blanche Ross will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. Pastor Jim Crenshaw, of White City Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Ross, 87, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at her home.
She was born Blanche McCoy on Feb. 27, 1913, in Coquille. On Aug. 9, 1930, in Coquille, she married Wilbur C. Ross, who died in 1992. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1952.
Mrs. Ross was a homemaker.
She was a member of the White City Christian Church.
Mrs. Ross enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Jack, Eagle Point; a brother, Lawrence McCoy, Bend; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Don.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Brinson
The memorial service for Patricia "Pat" Brinson will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Chaplain John Braund, of Rogue Valley Hospice, will officiate. Interment was in Siskiyou Memorial Park on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Ms. Brinson, 73, of Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Medford, died Feb. 9, 2001, at Harbor View Hospital in Seattle.
She was born May 5, 1927, in Medford, a daughter of William and Christina (Lewis) Catey. She graduated from Medford High School in 1945.
Ms. Brinson was a clerical worker with Jackson County Planning Commission, Jackson County Circuit Courts, Jackson County Title Co., and the Oregon State Employment Office.
She enjoyed embroidery, reading, her grandchildren and trips to the coast.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Robbins, White City; a brother, Robert Verbick, Medford; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Brinson Jr., and a sister, Betty Bauman.
