‘Jay’ Ben-Lesser
Margaret "Jay" Ben-Lesser, 77, of Ashland, died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Henrietta, Okla. She moved to Ashland in 1982 from Loma Prieta, Calif. She had also lived in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, in recent years.
Ms. Ben-Lesser was a writer. She was the author of "The Foxy Old Woman’s Guide to Traveling Alone."
She enjoyed travel, as well as life-long learning.
Survivors include her former husband, Mathew Ben-Lesser, Ashland; a daughter, Claire Anchick, Gold Hill; a son, Carter Croley, Sebastopol, Calif. A sister, Eva Rae LaGrande, Ponca City, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Eugene ‘Jim’ Cummings
Eugene "Jim" Cummings, 76, of Central Point, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) in Medford. Private entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

He was born July 13, 1924, in Nebraska, the son of Henry and Stella (Siebler) Cummings. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955 from Port Angeles, Wash.
Mr. Cummings worked for Elk Lumber Company for many years.
Survivors include an uncle, Tom Cummings, Palmdale, Calif.

Jean Forster
Jean Forster, 77, of Medford, died Feb. 8, 2001, at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Philadelphia. In 1961, in Las Vegas, she married Frank M. Forster, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Forster was the author of dog training books and was a dog trainer and canine advisor for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department before her retirement. She had a ranch in Scott Valley, Calif., for many years. She lived in the Rogue Valley from 1980-1995. She then moved to Little Shasta Valley, where she lived for four years. She returned to Medford last year.
Survivors include a son, James Rothmeyer, Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister, Grace Fowler, San Antonio, Texas; and several grandchildren.

Anna May Schultz
The memorial service for Anna May Schultz will be at noon Saturday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Her son-in-law Carl Wilson will officiate. A committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.
Mrs. Schultz, 75, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.
She was born May 30, 1925, in Garibaldi, a daughter of John and Anna Skaaluren. She was raised in Garibaldi and Reedsport, where she graduated from high school in 1943. In 1946, she married Louis F. Schultz Jr., who survives. She majored in mathematics at Pacific University, graduating in 1947.
Mrs. Schultz was a secretary for PABCO Products in San Francisco from 1947-1950, and in the Portland office from 1950-1952. After moving to Grants Pass in 1952, she was a homemaker.
She was a member and past president of chapter DC P.E.O., a women’s service club.
Mrs. Schultz was an excellent cook and hostess. She enjoyed bridge, golf, camping and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Malinda Wilson and Jana Schultz, both Grants Pass; a son, Donald, Reno, Nev.; a sister, Elsa Foelker, Milwaukie; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
Dorothy Linebaugh
The funeral service for Dorothy "Dottie" Linebaugh will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Williams Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Bob Heisler will officiate. Interment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.
Mrs. Linebaugh, 75, of Williams, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.
She was born April 21, 1925, in Chicago, a daughter of John and Mildred Lewin. On Nov. 28, 1975, in Medford, she married Ralph Linebaugh. They lived in Mesa, Ariz. until they moved to Williams in 1995.
Mrs. Linebaugh was a member of the Williams Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed making craft items and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Edward, Williams; two daughters, Linda Meister, Simi Valley, Calif., and Bonnie Birdsall, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters: Carol Hipp, in Arizona, and Joani Lewin, in Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren.

Samuel Lorne Koop
Samuel Lorne Koop, 95, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.

He was born April 13, 1905, in Fairview, Okla. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972. On Nov. 15, 1987, in Medford, he married Peggy Harper, who survives.
Mr. Koop was a carpenter.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Koop was a member of the World Wide Church of God.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid exerciser.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Jeanie Kazier, Bakersfield, Calif.; a son, Phillip, Palmdale, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Phillip ‘Pete’ Haughton
The memorial service for Phillip "Pete" Haughton will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.
Mr. Haughton, 73, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Three Fountains Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 19, 1927, in Norway, Ore., a son of George and Bernice (Slater) Haughton. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from Salem.
Mr. Haughton was a cattle rancher. He also worked for Living Opportunities in Medford.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Haughton enjoyed walking, traveling and the outdoors.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles, Central Point, and Robert, Roseburg; three sisters, Ruth Martin, Eagle Point, Ellen Hillyer, Roseburg, and Dorothy Parrish, Myrtle Point; He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark.

Marie Teresa Smith
The memorial service for Marie Teresa Smith will be at 4 p.m. today at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary, Highway 62, in White City. Bishop Blue will officiate.
Mrs. Smith, 50, of White City, died Feb. 10, 2001, in White City.
She was born Oct. 16, 1950, in Connecticut. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992. On Nov. 11, 1995, in Talent, she married Edward "Gary" Smith, who survives.
Mrs. Smith was a volunteer director for the Inter Community Church Association. She also worked for CERVS (Community Emergency Resources and Vital Services) and was dedicated to helping the homeless.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five children; her mother, Ruth Moore, in Connecticut; a brother; three sisters; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Gamberdella.
