Albert Fred Yensan
Albert Fred Yensan, Major, U.S. Army, retired, 89, of Hollister, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (March 8, 2001) at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister, Calif. No service is planned. Interment will be in San Joaquin National Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Grand Island, N.Y. He lived in California from 1920 to 1955; in Germany from 1955 to 1958; then returned to California, and lived in Medford before moving to Hollister 14 years ago.
Mr. Yensan served in the U.S. Army for 28 years, in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a self-employed real estate broker for Bernard Young Realty in Medford before moving to Hollister.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1436 in Hollister, the American Legion of Carmel, Calif., Ridgemark Golf and Country Club, and the TROA — Retired Officers Association, as well as the 66th Panther Division — those who served in Europe during World War II.
Mr. Yensan enjoyed golf and playing cards, and was a member of SIRS at Ridgemark Country Club in Hollister.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Virginia Yensan, Hollister, Calif.; two sons, James, Louisville, Colo., and Jerald, Denton, Texas; a brother, Oscar, in Florida; three sisters, Mildred Cipollone, Lemon Grove, Calif., and Millicent Herman and Roberta Yensan, both Sanborn, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Clarence A. Hartwell
The graveside service for Clarence A. Hartwell will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. Pastor Paul Tiffee, husband of granddaughter Teresa Tiffee, of McKinleyville, Calif., will officiate.
Mr. Hartwell, 89, of Medford, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at his home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Pomona, Calif., a son of Albert Leroy and Vera (Main) Hartwell. On March 26, 1936, in Grants Pass, he married Edna V. Noble, who survives.
Mr. Hartwell was a logger, as well as owner and operator of service stations in Ashland until his retirement in 1974.
He was a 49-year member of the Elks Lodge in Ashland and a 35-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Mr. Hartwell enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and bowling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Viola Hartwell, Medford, and Carmen Bradley, McKinleyville, Calif.; three sons, Albert D., Jacksonville, Robert Sr., Medford, and Brian, San Diego; a sister, Lucielle Jackson, Ashland; a brother, Clinton, Medford; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous foster children. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth; and an infant sister.

Margaret M. Novak
The funeral for Margaret Mary Novak will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.
Mrs. Novak, 94, of Medford, died Thursday (March 8, 2001) in Medford.
She was born March 17, 1906, in Messina, Sicily, a daughter of Giueseppe and Grazia Scionti. She married Harry Novak, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley 15 years ago from Westminster, Calif.
Mrs. Novak worked as a secretary at Stanley Home Products in Torrance, Calif., until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Surviviors include a son, Robert P., Medford; a brother, Santo Scionti, Farmingham, Mass.; a sister, Susan Consilvio, Cape Cod, Mass.; one grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.

Ben L. Conley
The memorial service for Ben L. Conley will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the interment shelter at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point. Chaplain Waye Bell of the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City will officiate.
Mr. Conley, 73, died Thursday (March 8, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born May 7, 1927, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, a son of Lewis and Mina Conley.
On June 7, 1952, in Reno, Nev., he married Audrey Monroe, who survives.
He attended Jacksonville schools and sold mobile homes.
Mr. Conley served in the U.S. Merchant Marine in World War II and the wars in Korea and Vietnam, and later became a vice-president of the Merchant Marine veterans’ group.
He enjoyed piloting small planes, mushroom hunting, gardening and repairing things.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Kathryn Huddleston, Medford; a son, Gary, Medford; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Conley.

Edna Mae Miller
The graveside service for Edna Mae Miller will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. A visitation at Hillcrest Chapel will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Miller, 86, of Central Point, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at Hearthstone in Medford.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1914, in Wirth, Ark., the daughter of Tom Lewis and Gertrude Hisner.
On Jan. 13, 1934, in Lone Grove, Okla., she married T. Donald Miller, who preceded her in death in 1986.
The couple moved to the Rogue Valley from Southern California in 1947.
Mrs. Miller worked for the Grange co-op in Central Point and the old Monarch store in Medford as a clerk. She was a charter member of Central Point Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Miller enjoyed gardening, flowers and playing games.
Survivors include a son, Tom Miller, Central Point; two daughters, Donna Higginbotham, Central Point and Ruth Lisac, Mount Shasta, Calif.; and three sisters, Ruth Young, Durant, Okla., Margaret Rasmussen, Tumwater, Wash., and Fannie Elmore, Lawton, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Carl, Lawrence and Olsen; and two sisters, Jewel and Faye.
Mrs. Miller had 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Katherine ‘Kaye’ Rooney
The memorial service for Katherine E. "Kaye" Rooney will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Ashland. Pastor Stephen Jones will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.
Mrs. Rooney, 83, of Ashland, died Wednesday (March 7, 2001) at Hearthstone in Medford.

She was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Turlock, Calif., the fourth of seven children of Walter and Eleanor (Snider) Coltharp. She completed her primary education in Turlock, Calif., and graduated from Berkeley High School in Berkeley, Calif. On July 3, 1963, in Virginia City, Nev., she married Loren "Larry" Rooney, who preceded her in death. They moved to Talent in 1976 from Oakland, Calif.
Mrs. Rooney worked for the War Department Patrol, security division in Oakland during World War II. She was later employed by Spenser’s Grotto restaurant and Walt’s Drug Store in Berkeley, retiring in 1968.
A skilled seamstress, she enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an avid reader.
Survivors include a brother, Dwight Coltharp, Wasilla, Alaska; and twin sisters, Elaine Newcomer, Ashland and Aileen Wiltrout, Talent; She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Barrera and Merle Anderson; and a brother, Everett Coltharp.

Stella Amanda Tosh
The funeral for Stella Amanda Tosh will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hillcrest Chapel. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Glen Prosise of Keeneway Church of Christ will officiate.
Mrs. Tosh, 91, of Central Point, died Thursday (March 8, 2001) at her home.
She was born Nov. 7, 1909, in Oklahoma, a daughter of Fletcher and Myrtle Carter. On Nov. 18, 1931, in Elk City, Okla., she married Ira Tosh, who died in 1996. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Oakland, Calif., during the late 1940s.
Mrs. Tosh was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Jim R., Phoenix, and Joe, Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, Margaret Green, Central Point, and Beverly Bowen, Plymouth, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
