Raymond Stahler

The memorial service for Raymond E. Stahler will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Litwiller-Simonsen Chapel in Ashland. Mr. Kipp Osborne will officiate. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life potluck at Ashland Christian Fellowship. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Portland.

Mr. Stahler, 81, died Sunday (April 1, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Canyon Creek, Mont., a son of Walter E. and Francis E. (Novak) Stahler. On Jan. 1, 1947, he married Dorothy Luella Holsclaw, who died in 1992. They moved to Ashland in 1953.

Mr. Stahler was an electrician. He retired from the Veterans Administration in 1978.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he earned many citations, including the Sharp Shooter Medal, two Battle Stars, the Combat Infantrymen Badge and the Asian Pacific Campaign Medal.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. Stahler, Ashland; a daughter, Laura Lee Westerman, Ashland; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Bernard Chester Siebert

The memorial service for Bernard Chester Siebert will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grants Pass. Pastor James Braun will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Siebert, 82, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus.

He was born June 2, 1918, in Fresno, Calif. On Sept. 20, 1941, in Richmond, Calif., he married Ann Dietrich, who survives.

Mr. Siebert was a pipe fitter in the construction industry prior to retirement. He moved to Grants Pass in 1979 from Richmond, Calif.

He served as an electrician’s mate first class in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Siebert was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the North American Hunting Club.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Keith, Richmond, Calif.; a daughter, Sharron Arnold, Sparks, Nev.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Grants Pass.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

James R. Ripka

The memorial service for James R. Ripka will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Scottish Rite Hall, 955 N. Phoenix Road, Medford. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Ripka, 74, of Medford, died March 27, 2001, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

He was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Houston, the son of George and Christine Ripka. He attended public schools in San Diego. On Oct. 4, 1980, in Reno, Nev., he married Shirley Bair, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from Cottage Grove.

Mr. Ripka enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 at the age of 17, and served in the Central Pacific. He also served as a special agent with the U.S. Air Force at the Office of Special Investigations during the Korean War.

In civilian life, he was a sergeant with the Cottage Grove Police Department from 1962 to 1966, and an identification officer at the Lane County sheriff’s office from 1967 until his retirement in 1978.

Mr. Ripka was a member of the Masons, where he was raised to Master Mason in Cottage Grove Lodge No. 51, served as Worshipful Master in 1970 and 1973, and later as District Deputy in 1975. With Cottage Grove Chapter No. 41, Royal Arch Masons, he was a life member and Past High Priest. With Hiram Council No. 7 Cryptic masons, he was a life member and Past Illustrious Master, and a Past Commander with Cerro Gordo Commandery No. 24. He served as Grand Commander Knights Templar of Oregon 1983-1984; was a member of Hodson Council, Order of High Priesthood and the Order of the Silver Trowel. He was an Oregon Priory No. 37 Knight York Cross of Honor life member; belonged to Cottage Grove Chapter No. 40, Order of the Eastern Star. Patron 1971-1972 and 1974-75. Nativity Shine, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Red Cross of Constantine, Saint Janus Conclave 1993; Hillah Temple Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, was Past Captain of Wrecking Crew, and Past Recorder and Recorder Emeritus.

After moving to Medford, he took dual membership in Warren Lodge No. 10 at Jacksonville, where he served as Master twice and secretary for several years. He was also secretary of Mazama Teocali Order of Quetzalcoatl.

Mr. Ripka enjoyed golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Robin, Newport, and Dennis, Ontario; four daughters, Christine Meyer, St. Helens, Jan Greenhalgh, Scappoose, Lisa Clegg, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jerri Weick, Springfield; a brother, Gerald, Ione; three stepsons, Bob Tobiasson, Rosewell, Ga., Marvin Tobiasson, Central Point, and Glen Tobiasson, Springfield; three stepdaughters, Sharon Tobiasson, Cottage Grove, Karen Basterrichea, Boise, Idaho, and Kathy Simpson, Terrebonne; 28 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Iva M. Brady

Iva M. Brady, 95, of Medford, died Monday (April 2, 2001) in Central Point. No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Angeles Abbey Cemetery in Compton, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon School for the Blind, 700 Church St. S.E., Salem OR 97301.

She was born Sept. 25, 1905, in Susanville, Calif., the daughter of Frank and Daisy (Perkins) Spencer, a pioneer family. The family moved from Susanville to Hood River, where she lived until she was 15. She then moved to Southern California. On Nov. 19, 1921, in Los Angeles, she married Walter V. Brady, who died in 1977. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Southern California.

Mrs. Brady was a member of the World War I Women’s Auxiliary. She was volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City for 23 years.

Survivors include a niece, Frances Nelson, Medford; a nephew, Carl Spencer, Medford; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; and two brothers, Frank and Carl Spencer.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Gladys Mae Long

The funeral service for Gladys Mae Long will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Central Point Stake Center. Bishop Ron Wells will officiate. Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mrs. Long, 75, of Central Point, died Sunday (April 1, 2001) at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Anthony, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Doris (Rife) Whitney. On Dec. 27, 1942, in Anthony, Kan., she married Isham Seymore Long, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Kansas.

Mrs. Long was long-term childcare provider in the Rogue Valley.

She enjoyed needlepoint and sewing.

Survivors include three daughters, Myrna Martin, Myrtle Creek, Brenda Monzie, Medford, and Sally Loper, Hermiston; two brothers, Roger Whitney, Moorland, Okla., and Wayne Whitney, Snohomish, Wash.; four sisters, Helen Hager, Anthony, Kan., Charlotte Whitney, Amarillo, Texas, Phyllis Stobaugh, Trinity, Texas, and Betty Johnson, Purcell, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Friends may pay their respects at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Carmella Ann Pruitt

The funeral service for Carmella Ann Pruitt will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Medford. The Rev. Liam Carey will officiate. A reception will follow the 1:30 Mass in the parish hall. Committal will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Pruitt, 86, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (April 1, 2001) in Klamath Falls of natural causes.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Dodge, Wis., a daughter of Albert L. and Caroline (Lessman) Glodowski. In 1916, they moved to Lambert, Mont., to homestead. She grew up and attended school in the Lambert area, graduating from Lambert High School in 1933. She worked in Sidney and Glendive, Mont., following her graduation. In 1936, she joined her brother in Tulelake, Calif. On Dec. 24, 1937, in Yreka, Calif., she married Richard "Dick" Pruitt, and they moved to Medford. He died in 1963.

Mrs. Pruitt worked as a cook and housekeeper for farm families in Tulelake and Merrill. She moved to Medford in 1937 to attend a school of cosmetology, and passed the state exams in 1938. In the late 1970s and 80s, she worked as a care giver for elderly people in their homes. She moved to Klamath Falls in May 2000.

She and her husband were active supporters of St. Mary’s School, and were member of the Medford Elks, Eagles and Moose Lodge. Since 1959, she had been a charter member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Medford and St. Pius Church in Klamath Falls.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald, San Francisco, and Donald, Golden, Colo.; three brothers, Frank Glodowski, Sidney, Mont., Raymond Glodowski, Arlington, Va., and Bill Glodowski, Klamath Falls; a sister, Helen Pettinato, Bartlesville, Okla.; and a grandson. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Daniel, Joseph, Leonard and Lester; and two sisters, Emily and Esther.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.
