William Clarence London
William Clarence London, 67, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Eagle Town, Okla., a son of Clarence and Rachel London. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1940 from Oklahoma.
Mr. London was a packing house plant operator.
He served in the Oregon National Guard from September 1951 to May 1952. He then served in the U.S. Marine Corps until October 1952.
Survivors include a brother, Austin D., Medford; and a sister, Jenace Tilford, Phoenix.

Amy Christina Griffin
Amy Christina Griffin, 87, of White City, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Nov. 24, 1913, in Ketchikan, Alaska, the daughter of James and Amy (Charles) Taylor. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1943 from Portland. On June 6, 1951, in Ashland, she married Walter A. Griffin, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Griffin was a nurse’s aide at Mountain View Nursing Home in Ashland.
She enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen A. Kropf, Woodburn, and Patty Ellis, White City; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Joan W. Johnson
The memorial service for Joan W. Johnson will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Rogue Valley Manor. The Rev. Raymond Finerty of Newman House at Southern Oregon University, and Don Hildebrand, director of Pastoral Services at Rogue Valley Manor, will officiate.
Mrs. Johnson, 75, of Medford, died Sunday (April 1, 2001) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center.
She was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Portland, and attended Cathedral School and St. Mary’s Academy in Portland. She graduated from Marylhurst College in Lake Oswego. In 1953, she married Robert A. Johnson, who survives. They moved to Medford in 1955.
Mrs. Johnson taught third grade at Washington School.
She was a member of the Gold Diggers group of the Southern Oregon Historical Society. She also belonged to a book club and a stitchery group. She attended Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland.
Mrs. Johnson enjoyed the outdoors and belonged to the Trail Marys hiking group. She covered many trails in Southern Oregon and Northern California, and she and her husband also hiked in the Lake of the Woods area, where they have a cabin. She also enjoyed entertaining and walking her dog, Andrew.

Patricia McDonald
The funeral service for Patricia McDonald will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Siskiyou Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. McDonald, 86, of Medford, died Monday (April 2, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born March 17, 1915, in The Dalles, the daughter of Fred and Millie Cyphers. She attended The Dalles High School, Linfield College and did graduate work at the University of Oregon. On Aug. 1, 1941, in The Dalles, she married Alexander McDonald, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1941 from Grass Valley.
Mrs. McDonald taught high school in 1942 in Medford. She later taught social studies at North Medford High School, retiring in 1975.
She belonged to the Sewing Club and enjoyed playing bridge and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four children, Steven, Medford, Scott, Roseburg, Kaye, Monmouth, and Mike, Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Bruce Cyphers; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Henry McDonald; and eight brothers, Paul, Caroll, Billy, Grant, Freddy, John, Richard and Robert.

Katherine Ann Thacker
The Mass of Christian burial for Katherine Ann Thacker will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass. The Rev. John Cihak will officiate.
Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
Ms. Thacker, 59, of Phoenix, died Monday (April 2, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born July 17, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas. She moved to Phoenix from North Hollywood, Calif., with her companion, Al Bornstein.
Ms. Thacker was the recording secretary for the Rogue Opera Guild. She also worked part-time as a school bus driver for disabled children in Phoenix and Talent.
She enjoyed traveling, people and gardening.
Survivors include a son, James, in California; a daughter, Mary Thacker, in California; her companion, Al Bornstein, Phoenix; her mother, Katherine Mulhearn, Grants Pass; three brothers, Jack Stroble Jr., Grants Pass, Thomas Stroble, Merritt Island, Fla., and Bud Adams, Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister, Ginger Saykally, Grants Pass; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Randolph Stroble.

John M. Scott
The graveside service for John Matthew Scott will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Scott, 80, of Ashland, died Monday (April 2, 2001) at Ashland Community Hospital.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Men’s Bullpen at Linda Vista Care Center, 135 Maple St., Ashland, OR 97520.
He was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Japton, Ark., a son of Mable and Miley Scott.
Mr. Scott was a carpenter in Orange County, Calif., where he lived for many years. He moved to Medford in 1982.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and received the Medal of Honor. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1833 in Medford.
Mr. Scott enjoyed hunting and fishing, inventing and singing and playing country western music.
Survivors include two sons, Johnnie, Medford, and James, Atkinson, Neb.; four daughter, Patricia A. VanCleave, Rogue River, Janice Hamblen, Livermore, Calif., Barbara Scott, Medford, and Valerie Loyd, Ontario, Calif.; a brother, Eugene, Ozark, Ark.; a sister, Gladys Alston, Pomona, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother; a sister; and three grandsons.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Richard James Savage
The memorial service for Richard James Savage will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Trail Christian Fellowship in Eagle Point. Pastor Don Holmes will officiate.
Mr. Savage, 38, of Central Point, died Monday (April 2, 2001) at his home.

He was born Sept. 16, 1962, in Medford. He attended Central Point schools and graduated from Crater High School in 1981, winning a four-year scholarship.
Mr. Savage was a heavy equipment mechanic at Crater Sand and Gravel in Central Point and at SKW/Eskimos Inc. in Nuiqsut, Alaska. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life, spending a few months recently in Alaska.
He was a member of Trail Christian Fellowship.
Mr. Savage enjoyed fishing and flying model airplanes.
Survivors include a son, Gary Dean, Arlington; a daughter, Niki Rena; Arlington; his parents, Donald James and Mary Rose Savage, Central Point; a brother, Bernard Allen, Central Point; a sister, Sharel Ann Thomasson, Central Point; and his grandmother, Earlene Mass, Eagle Point. He was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Mary Dorthia Schroder and Jeannie S. Savage, and a grandfather, Floyd Mass.
