Julia ‘Judy’ Royston
The memorial service for Julia "Judy" Marian Royston will be at 11 a.m. today following the 10 a.m. Palm Sunday service at Medford First Christian Church/Disciples of Christ, 1900 Crater Lake Ave. Pastor Tim Tiffany will officiate. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Royston, 80, of Jacksonville, died Friday (April 6, 2001) at her home.

Mrs. Royston was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Hepler, Kan., the daughter of Columbus and Maude Neil. On Sept. 1, 1940, in Springfield, Mo., she married John "Art" Royston, who died in 1995.
Mrs. Royston moved to Oregon in 1954 from Pittsburg, Kan. She started a well-child clinic in Brooks and was the PTA president for Brooks Elementary School. She also was a member of the Brooks volunteer fire department auxiliary.
Mrs. Royston was a worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star Gervais Chapter and a member of Job’s Daughters.
She enjoyed camping, cooking and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith C. Royston-Kockx, Medford, and Janet C. Royston-Blanchard, Salem; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Neil Treece and Gladys Neil Bollwinkel, and a brother, Columbus Fidelo "Buddie" Neil.

Maxine Roberts Staples
A memorial display for Maxine Roberts Staples will be set up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday in Elsie Butler Hall at Horton Plaza. Interment will be at St. John’s the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Milwaukie.
Mrs. Staples, 87, of Medford, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at Horton Plaza.

She was born April 9, 1913, in Milwaukie, a daughter of Fred and Martha (Latourell) Roberts. She grew up in Milwaukie, where she attended Milwaukie High School. She moved to Medford as a young woman.
In 1942, she married Robert R. Hammond, who served in the U.S. Army and was killed in action in Italy in 1944. On Dec. 21, 1962, in Reno, Nev., she married Isaac "Ike" E. Staples, who died in 1985.
In Medford, Mrs. Staples was a draftsperson for COPCO, which later became Pacific Power and Light, retiring in 1962. She then moved to Nevada, returning to Medford in 1992.
She was a past member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.
Mrs. Staples was an avid golfer and won many trophies.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Bob Anderson, Central Point. She was preceded in death by a brother, Owen Roberts; and three sisters, Violet Miller, Florence Bigham and Donna Fairbrass.

Frances Louise Gillooly
Frances Louise Gillooly, 82, of Medford, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) at Rogue Valley Manor. A private service is planned. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Rev. Liam Carey of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.

She was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Adelia Fabbri. On April 16, 1940, in Sycamore, Ill., she married Charles Jordan Gillooly, D.D.S., who died in 1996. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Graeagle, Calif.
Mrs. Gillooly was an obstetrics nurse specializing in labor and delivery. She also worked as a school nurse for four years.
She volunteered at Rogue Valley Manor Health Care Center where, until recently, she had maintained her nursing credentials.
Mrs. Gillooly was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford.
She enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. David H., Crawfordsville, Ind., and Donald T., Auburn, Wash.; a daughter, Judith E. St. Denis, Graegle, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Charles J. Gillooly Jr.

William Clarence London
The memorial service for William Clarence London will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery Interment Shelter. Pastor John Thomas of Medford Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. London, 67, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Eagle Town, Okla., a son of Clarence and Rachel London. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1940 from Oklahoma.
Mr. London was a packing house plant operator.
He served in the Oregon National Guard from September 1951 to May 1952, then with the U.S. Marine Corps until October 1952.
Survivors include a brother, Austin D., Medford; and a sister, Jenace Tilford, Phoenix.

Otto ‘Whitey’ Kannasto
The memorial service for Otto "Whitey" H. Kannasto will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland. The Warren Masonic Lodge in Jacksonville will officiate.
Mr. Kannasto, 84, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at Hearthstone Nursing Care Center, Medford, where he had lived for 3 ˝ years.

He was born April 9, 1916, in Rocklin, Calif., the son of John and Mary Kannasto. He later moved to Ashland, where he was a member of the football and basketball teams at Ashland High School, graduating in 1935. He continued his education at what is now Southern Oregon University.
In 1938, Mr. Kannasto began working for the California-Oregon Power Company on a survey crew in the Klamath Falls area. In 1940, he began working and studying to be an electrical power estimator. After World War II, he returned to his job at California-Oregon Power Co., which later became Pacific Power and Light. He worked in Roseburg and Crescent City for several years. He retired as a senior estimator in 1984 after working 24 years in Medford.
During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy preflight program, where he trained at St. Mary’s, Calif. He later transferred to the Navy Seabees, where some of his duties involved deep-sea diving. He spent the duration of the war with the Seabees in North Africa.
Mr. Kannasto was a lifetime member of the Warren Masonic Lodge in Jacksonville. He also held membership in the Scottish Rite, Medford, the Aahmes Shrine in Livermore, Calif., was a member of the Ashland and Medford Elks Clubs and the IBEW, a professional electrical workers union. He was a charter member of the Southern Oregon Soretails, a fishing club that works to resurrect and improve steelhead fishing in the Rogue Basin.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include three sisters, Helen Patrick, Belmont, Calif., Dolly Desantis, San Mateo, Calif., and Gladys Gerleve, Klamath Falls; three brothers, Fred and Harry, both Ashland, and Ray, Salem. He was preceded in death by a brother; and two sisters.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Jean Henderson
The memorial service for Jean Henderson will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Pastor Ed Keys of the Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Henderson, 70, of Medford, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) in Medford.

She was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Diggins, Mo., a daughter of Noah A. and Ada (Gooding) Cornelison. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Mitchell, S.D.
Mrs. Henderson was a home health care provider.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Henderson enjoyed reading.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Ball, Gold Hill, Mary Foos, White City, Janice Caves, Torrance, Calif., and Lois Goldenpenny, Hillsboro, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
