John Edward Doig

John Edward Doig, 68, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus. No service is planned.

He was born July 9, 1932, in Oakland, Calif. On Oct. 1, 1960, in Berkeley, Calif., he married Linda Choice, who survives. They lived in the Bay area for 34 years, and moved to Grants Pass in 1994 from Concord, Calif.

Mr. Doig was a lab technician.

He enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, camping and spending time with his family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Andy, Grants Pass, Chris, Richland Park, Ill., Steve, Brentwood, Calif., and Dave, Clayton, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren.

Arrangements: Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Elva A. LeShane

The graveside service for Elva A. LeShane will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. LeShane, 93, of Medford, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Independent Adult Foster Providers of Jackson County, c/o Brenda Perry, secretary/treasurer, 733 Faith Ave., Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born March 21, 1908, in Gaston, the daughter of Frank and Elsie Wescott. She graduated from Roseburg High School. On Nov. 27, 1947, in Medford, she married Edward C. LeShane, who died in December 2000. She moved to the Rogue Valley a year ago from Eugene, where she had lived for 30 years.

Mrs. LeShane was a homemaker.

She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Singler; and a brother.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Robert H. Fitzwater

A celebration of music in memory of Robert H. Fitzwater will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at River Valley Community Church in Grants Pass.

Mr. Fitzwater, 75, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born July 23, 1925, in Cincinnati. On Dec. 26, 1960, in Santa Monica, Calif., he married Vivian Hicks, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1972 from Livermore, Calif.

Mr. Fitzwater owned Fashion Eyewear in Grants Pass until his retirement.

He was a member of River Valley Community Church.

Mr. Fitzwater enjoyed woodcarving, crossword puzzles, pen and ink artwork and singing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Daniel, Carson City, Nev.; a daughter, Dianne Fitzwater, Columbus, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Vicky Vento, Chehalis, Wash., and Lynn McCoy, Newark, Calif.; a brother, Mylen, Merced, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Eleanor Potter Bunje

Eleanor Potter Bunje, 85, of Medford, died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at her home. A private service will be held later.

She was born July 1, 1915, in Evanston, Ill., a daughter of Ralph and Harriet (Norton) Potter. She received a degree in education from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1937, and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. On Dec. 17, 1938, in Evanston, Ill., she married Charles William Bunje, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Bunje was a homemaker.

She was a longtime resident of Santa Monica, Calif., where she was active in the community, including the Charity League and Community Chest. She also lived in Fallbrook, Calif., before moving to Oregon in 1994.

Mrs. Bunje enjoyed reading, knitting and needlepoint.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara B. Carter, Medford; a son, Bruce P., Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Elizabeth Brown, Santa Cruz, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norton Potter.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Mary L. Lytle

Mary L. Lytle, 90, of Medford, formerly of Riverside, Calif., died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held.

She was born Nov. 17, 1910, in North Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Seymour and Ada (Beck) Tracht. On May 30, 1937, in Corona, Calif., she married Merle Lytle, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Lytle was a homemaker. She was also a substitute house parent at Rainbow Acres in Arizona. She moved to the Rogue Valley in December 2000 from Riverside, Calif.

She enjoyed sewing, church activities, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Williams, Medford; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Marshall "Doc" Lytle.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Nicole Marie Cosper

Nicole Marie Cosper, 16, of Portland, formerly of Medford, died April 17, 2001, at Providence Children's Hospital in Portland. The memorial service was held on April 20 at the chapel at Providence Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Children's Hospital, 4805 N.E. Glisan, Portland, OR 97213.

She was born March 16, 1985, in Ashland, a daughter of Tana Cosper.

Nicole lived in Medford from 1985 to 1993.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two sisters, Krystal and Amanda.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Roses, Portland.

Johnny Hinderer Jr.

H.J. "Johnny" Hinderer Jr., 67, of Central Point, died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) at his home. Arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

John Foulkes Jones

John Foulkes Jones, 72, of Grants Pass, formerly of Portland, died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) at Laurel Hills Nursing Center in Grants Pass. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oregon Literacy Inc., 9806 S.W. Boones Ferry Road, Portland, OR 97219.

He was born May 14, 1928, in Seattle, a son of William Foulkes and Alice Dowell Jones. He moved to Portland in 1936, where he graduated from Jefferson High School. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Oregon, and a law degree from Stanford Law School in Palo Alto, Calif.

Mr. Jones was an attorney in Portland. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1999 from Portland.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1946-1947.

Mr. Jones was a lifetime recreational reader.

Survivors include three sons, Scott, in Hawaii, and Matthew and Christian, both Portland; a daughter, Kathryn Teehee, in California; a sister, Alice J. Rutter, Ashland; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Stephen Layton Jones; and a sister, Mary E. Spencer.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Charles Russell Harkins

Charles Russell Harkins, 82, of Medford, died Monday (April 23, 2001) at his home. A private service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born May 16, 1918, in Canyon City, Colo. On March 6, 1948, in Walsenburg, Colo., he married James A. Halbert, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Harkins was a stationary engineer for the city and county of Denver, retiring in 1980. He moved to the Rogue Valley 21 years ago from Denver.

He served as a machinist mate lst class in the U.S. Navy for 22 years.

Mr. Harkins enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert H. North, Tucson, Ariz., and Charles D. Harkins, Tempe, Ariz.; three daughters, Gail Van Dyck and Patricia Harkins, both Medford, and Margaret Batterman, Denver; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; and a brother.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.
