Wanna Walker, 85, of Ashland, died Thursday, December 25, 2003 at an Ashland Foster Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
Magdalene Besler
Magdalene Besler, of Central Point, died on December 23, 2003 at Providence Medical Center. She was 96.
A memorial service in loving memory and celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. on January 3, 2004 at Spirit of Life Christian Center, 6475 Crater Lake Hwy (behind West Coast Appliance). Officiating will be Pastor Lenny Meyer.
She was born September 15, 1907 in Odessa, Russia and came to America as an infant in 1909. She married Sam Besler in Bison, South Dakota in 1924. They had 15 children and raised them on a 4600 acre ranch and farm near Bison, South Dakota. They moved to Ashland in 1964. After her husband passed away in 1980 she moved to Central Point in 1983 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Magdalene was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, in 1980 and her daughters Emma Besler and Mary Oyler.
Survivors include 9 sons: David of Los Angeles, CA, Marvin of Baker City, OR, Gottlieb of Boulder City, NV, Ervin and Ernest of Grants Pass, Arthur of Medford, Herbert and Richard of Cambridge, NE; 4 daughters: Eva Vilhauer of Aberdeen, SD, Edna Roth of Alamogordo, NM, Helen Fogelquist of Yreka, CA, Marti Skinner of Central Point; and 2 brother and 2 sisters. Magdalene was blessed with 46 grandchildren, 60 plus great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Her interests included crocheting, sewing, quilting, and reading the Bible. She traveled on mission trips to Israel, Russia, China, and Honduras. She was a longtime member of Women's Aglow Fellowship and attended the Spirit of Life Christian Center.

William 'Bill' C. Mullins
William "Bill" C. Mullins of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 22, 2003) at Three Fountains. He was 77.
A committal service will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn will officiate.
Mr. Mullins was born on April 20, 1926 in Mt. Vernon, KY to Casper and Stella (Gentry) Mullins. He grew up in Florida until entering the United States Navy where he would serve as a sail maker during WWII. Following his military service, Bill moved to California working in the bay area making awnings. He married Frances Reizer in San Rafael, CA on May 15, 1944. The couple moved to Southern California and Bill opened an auto upholstery business. Bill retired from that but would continue, in his retirement, to do custom auto upholstery for hot rods. He and Frances moved to Medford in July of 2000. Bill enjoyed fishing and spending time with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Sheila Mullins of Ashland, daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Charles Minter of Boulder, CO, sisters, Anita Faye Hayes, Patsy Ann Hopkins and Leahine Wolfe, brother, Casper Cline Mullins, granddaughters, Alise Minter, Sierra and Arianna Mullins. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Frances on Dec. 19, 2002 and his parents, including his mother in 2002.

Erwin William Carls
Services for Erwin William Carls will be Wed. Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Pastor Dick Hamilton of Gold Hill Christian Church will officiate. Mr. Carls passed away Friday, (Jan 2, 2004) at Providence Medical Center at age 96.
Erwin was born June 10, 1907 in Racine, WI to Louis and Meta Lensert Carls, the eldest of five children. On June 20, 1928 in Pomona, CA he married Della Coppersmith. She preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2001, after 73 years of marriage.
Erwin moved from Racine to Yuma, CO and later to Pomona, CA where he lived until 1970 when he moved to Medford, OR. Over the years Erwin held various jobs in the carpentry and tile setting trades. He worked for a number of years as an instructor in tile setting at the Calif. Institution for Men in Chino, CA. During this time he authored a book on the subject, "The Art of Tile Setting." He and Della owned and operated three natural history museums, the most recent one, "Nature's Treasure Chest" in Gold Hill, OR.
His lifetime interest was in the study of natural science and God's creation. He corresponded and exchanged specimens with other collectors all over the world. His vast collection was donated to the Institute for Creation Research in Santee, CA a few years ago. He was considered by many an expert in the field of lepidaptera, mineralogy, and woods of the world. His name was mentioned in "Who Knows - and What Among Authorities - Experts and the Specially Informed." He was a charter member of the International Wood Collectors Society and an honorary lifetime member.
In addition to his collecting, research and study, Erwin enjoyed his daily Bible reading, his family and friends, attending church and, of course, God's awesome creation. He was a member of Gold Hill Christian Church and Ashland Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret McKendrick and Isabel Pitts and his brother, Marvin Carls. One sister, Caroline Woodward of Eagle Point remains.
Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Lou Carls of Pomona, CA, his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Wayne Christian of Ashland, OR, seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Marlene L. G. Magruder
The funeral services for Marlene Lee Gardner Magruder will be at 1 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2004 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 111 Clay Street, Ashland, OR. Private interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford, OR.
Mrs. Magruder, 66, formerly of Ashland, died Monday, January 5, 2004 at Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas, NV.
Marlene was born December 9, 1937 in Ashland, OR to Albert and Helen (Mansfield) Gardner. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1955 and attended Beauty College in Medford. She moved from the Rogue Valley in the late 1950's, and became a mortgage broker in Mt. Vernon, WA. Marlene lived in Pahrump, NV the past five years.
On November 8, 1998 in Ashland, she married Radford Magruder, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Radford of Pahrump, NV, include three sons, David Tuff of Mt. Vernon, WA, Michael Tuff of Mt. Vernon, WA, Ronald Tuff of Sequim, WA; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Shirley Gardner of Rexburg, ID; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Jordan of Hermiston; mother, Helen Gardner of Pahrump, NV; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert, in 1989.
