Martin John Utecht

Martin John Utecht lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, July 17th at the age of 60. He was born June 13, 1950 in Spokane, Washington. He was married February 21, 1976 to his wife Diane. Martin’s family was with him when he passed in his home as he wanted. Martin had a fulfilling life and pursued many of his dreams. As a mechanical engineer and project manager, he was able to travel extensively, including to china, to oversee the construction of his machinery. Martin lived in the Puget Sound area on his sailboat for a period of time and it brought him great joy. He lived a full life and spent time with his many grandkids and his large family. He was a strong force that held up the family with sound advice and loving support.

Martin is survived by his wife Diane Utecht, his mother Mary Frey, siblings Gary, Billy, Jeff, Vicky, Bobbie and Jane; children Jason Luckenbach, daughter in law Angie and their two daughters Kambria and Sabrina; Jade Nybro, son in law Aaron and their children Camille, Raymond, Kyle and Conner; Jon Utecht and his children Jon and Ellah; Jacob Martin, daughter in law Sherry and their children Jesie and Alexis. Donations in his memory can be made to the Lymphoma Leukemia chapter in your area.

Jared Covey Wilkinson

Jared Covey Wilkinson, of Vancouver, Washington died Saturday, July 17th, 2010. Jared’s pacemaker showed that his heart rate gradually slowed and eventually stopped. He died peacefully in his home.

Jared was born in Alhambra, California on November 5th, 1938. His parents were George Raymond and Verna Hazel Wilkinson [Covey]. He served in the USMC immediately after graduating from High School. Jared then married Marlyn and they raised their family in the Santa Cruz, California area.

His second career was serving as a policeman in Arcadia, California. He was hit by a drunk driver, forcing him to retire early from the police academy. Jared decided to pursue university studies full time. He accomplished a B.A. in Psychology from USCS, a Masters in Transpersonal Psychology and Ph.D. Candidate Status from California Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.

Jared went on to work as a therapist, a clergy consultant, and a high school substitute teacher. A highlight of his career path was hosting a syndicated radio talk show that dealt with psychological and spiritual topics.

When Jared was 58, he met Patsy, and eventually moved out of the Monterey Bay Area, to the North West. Until his untimely death, he was active as a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon and enjoyed breeding dogs part time.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Dishman-Wilkinson, son, Matthew Wilkinson[Christine]; daughter, Lesley Larsen, stepchildren, Lisa Holman[Ben], Stephanie and Jeff Dishman, cousin, Ken Wilkinson, and grandchildren Justin and Brennan Wilkinson.

The memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Arrangements were by Crown Memorial Center – Portland.

Karen I. McElroy

Karen passed away in the afternoon of July 15, 2010. She was the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Bessey, born November 22, 1949 in Sacramento, California. In 1966, she married John McElroy in Reno, Nevada and together they raised 3 boys in Oregon.

Karen worked in clerical work in her early years. Her main job was raising her three active sons. She and John were very involved in Little League and each year she would be the team mother for visiting All-Star Teams, hosting many players in her home over the years. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing but really shined as a mother.

She is survived by her sons John Jr. (Lorrie), Shon (Lori) and Justin (Rachael); and grandchildren Adam, Josh, Kaleb, Hally, Kala, Charlie, Morgan, Sophia and Kaylie. She is preceded in death by her husband John who passed only three weeks earlier. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Salem

Beverly “Bev” Ann McGregor

Beverly McGregor, age 71, passed away on July 14 of cancer. Beverly was born in Falls City, Oregon on April 17, 1939, the daughter of Oscar and Anna Koloen. Beverly spent her school years in Valsetz, OR and later lived in Dallas, Independence and Silverton.

Beverly is survived by her husband David McGregor; children Donna Villegas of Battleground, WA, Teri Lopez of Salem, OR and Doug Guenther of Long Beach, CA; brothers Jim Koloen of Florence, Richard Koloen of Dallas and John Koloen of Independence, OR; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother William Koloen.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 20, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 303 N. Church St. Silverton, OR 97381. A reception will follow at the Silverton Mobile Estates Club House, 1307 S. Water St. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Mary Ann Arasmith

Mary Ann Arasmith passed away July 9th, 2010 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 67. She was born August 13th, 1942 in Butte, Montana to Arthur and Elizabeth Schmeizer.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband Keith Arasmith and by her beloved sons Michael and David. She is further survived by her grandchildren Amber, Whitney, Kyle and Jillian, and by her great-grandchildren Donavin and Journey. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Burnett of Colorado and by many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her son Keith Edward “Ed” Arasmith.

Carole (Melum) Baldino
Aug. 22, 1935 – July 9, 2010

Carole grew up on a farm in Canby. She had a delightful, spirited personality and was very generous, with a joyful heart and amazing work ethic. She once borrowed her teenage son’s size 13 baseball cleats to walk to work in an ice-storm. She was an inspiration and had a knack for making people feel special.

She was refreshingly direct. One of her favorite sayings was “I just call it like I see it!” As a teenager she loved riding her horse, Sugar. She worked over 30 years at Good Samaritan Hospital as a food server.

Carole passed away peacefully with her son by her side, holding her.

Carole is survived by her loving son, Lee, her daughter Colleen, her brother Marvin Melum, and her devoted friend Robert Perkins.

A graveside service will be held at Zoar Lutheran Cemetery in Canby at 11:00 am on July 15th. For more information, contact Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.

Shirley B. Spurgeon

Shirley passed away in the early morning hours of July 7, 2010 at her home in Stayton, OR. She was the daughter of Jeff and Iv (Fordham) Hinman, born July 31, 1936 in Independence, CA. She married John Edward Spurgeon and together they raised 3 children in Oregon.

Shirley is survived by her spouse, Edward; children Roxane (Chris)Emerson, Joyce (Gene) Stevens and Jack Spurgeon; 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sisters Nettie Williams, Alice Chitwood and Effie Yoachum and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Helen Gaut, Wilma Mae Grabble and Agnus Fox.

A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held later in July. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Carolyn S. Schilling
September 19, 1951 - July 08, 2010

Carolyn S. Schilling was relieved of her 6 year battle with a rare disease with her passing on Thursday July 08, 2010 at OHSU hospital in Portland, OR.

Born in Rogers, Arkansas in 1951 to H. Dean & Marlene Winchester, Carolyn embarked on life with a strong will, drive for success and fun loving spirit. She graduated from Nyssa High School in 1969 with honors and then obtained an Associates degree from Treasure Valley Community College . She married Dennis Schilling in 1970 and started their family in 1974 with the birth of their first son. Carolyn and Dennis had 3 children and celebrated their love through 40 years. Carolyn devoted 30 plus years to her career in the medical profession until her diagnosis forced an early retirement. She enjoyed trips to the beach, spending time with family and friends, games, and music. She was loved and cherished by those who had the opportunity to meet her.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Dennis Schilling of Irrigon, her parents H. Dean & Marlene Winchester of Irrigon, OR, son Marc Schilling of Lake Oswego, OR, daughter Lori Smith of Kingman, AZ, son Matthew Schilling of Portland, OR, and two grandchildren Colten Schilling of Lake Oswego, OR and Trenton Smith of Kingman, AZ. She was preceded in death by her brother Gary Winchester.
