Donald (Don) Chester Richardson
October 15, 1920 – May 14, 2010
Newberg resident, Donald (Don) Chester Richardson, 89, passed away on May 14, 2010. Don was born on October 15, 1920 in Beaverton and was raised in the Portland area. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and later worked as a Machinist for Certified Manufacturing in Shelton, Washington. In 1962, Don married Alice Erickson. He is known for being a dedicated Mariners fan and he loved baseball. In his younger days, he was an avid fisherman, and more recently he has become a huge fan of computers.
Don’s survivors include his wife Alice Richardson of Newberg; daughters Joan Milligan, Donna Burrill and Marti Buczynski; step-children, Bob, Barbara and David Erickson; and 5 grandchildren.
Don will be interred with full military honors at Willamette National Cemetery on May 25th at 1:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be sent to Odyssey Hospice. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
Kathryn Ellen Delehoy
November 12, 1919 – May 13, 2010
Kathryn Ellen Delehoy, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on May 13, 2010, at the age of 90. Kathryn was born to William Vincent and Jane (Budde) Delehoy in Omaha, Nebraska on November 12, 1919. She was primarily raised in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Oregon in 1997. She also lived in Fan Francisco for much of her adult life and spent one year in India setting up a counseling program. She received two Master’s Degrees in social work and was resident head of the women’s dormitory at Ohio Wesleyan University, resident director of the YWCA in Fresno, and a social worker in the San Francisco Schools. Kathryn enjoyed needle point, reading, volunteer work, opera, plays, ballet, symphony, and being a docent for San Francisco Museum in her retirement.
Kathryn is survived by sisters Mildred Armstrong, Lola Stutheit, and Willa Smith, as well as nine nieces and nephews, plus numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at the Holliday Park Plaza in Portland on July 10, 2010 from 2 – 4 p.m.

Gary Robert Joy
5/11/47 ~ 5/13/10
Gary Joy died May 13, 2010 in Vancouver, WA. He was born may 11, 1947 in Bandon, OR to Robert & Kleta (Hiley) Joy. Gary lived the first half of his life in Bandon, and in Anchorage, Alaska for the last 29 years. Fishing & hunting were among his favorite things to do. Gary is survived by sister; Arlene Wilson & her husband Curtis, brother; Ernest “Ernie” Moore & his wife Kathy, plus several aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, a great-niece, and great nephews. Eugene Edmund Nelson
Eugene Edmund Nelson passed away on May 6th, 2010 in Forest Grove, Oregon at the age of sixty-two. Born February 2nd, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised primarily in Southern California. He graduated with a BA from UCLA in 1970 and went on to receive a degree in architecture at the University of British Columbia in 1974.
Eugene (nicknames include “eez” and “Gene”) worked as a DEA auditor as well as a Trimet lift driver and an author. A talented, eclectic man, he was an inventor of road testing equipment as well as a writer/musician. He enjoyed research, reading, gourmet cooking, tutoring, and was an avid collector of books and musical instruments. Gene was also a member of Mensa and NAMM.
Eugene is survived by his life partner Katharina Hunter of Hillsboro, OR and his step-daughter Tricia Parks, also of Hillsboro. He is further survived by his father, Gene Nelson and sisters Lori Kelly and Jane McCurdy, all of San Jose, CA. Eugene was preceded in death by his mother Lorraine Nelson. He leaves behind three beloved grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 16th, 2010 at the Reedville Commons Clubhouse, 18505 SW Stubblefield Way, Aloha, OR. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Research and the Save the Music Foundation.

Frank Sanchez Padilla
Frank Sanchez Padilla passed away on May 10th, 2010 in Newberg, Oregon. He was sixty-five. Born March 15th, 1945 in Tucson, Arizona (where he also attended high school) he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of seventeen. Frank moved to McMinnville in 1967, and later went on to a career as a millwright and an electrician for Steinfeld’s and as a millwright at Diane’s Foods. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars and canoeing at Haag Lake.
Frank is survived by four children, all of whom reside in Oregon: his daughter Melissa Cisneros (and her husband Ray Cisneros) of Dayton, daughter Angela Swailes of Portland, son Joseph Padilla of Lapine and son Francisco Padilla, also of Portland. He is further survived by his brother Manuel Padilla and sister Carmen Padilla, both of Tucson, Arizona. He is additionally survived by his nephew and niece Gilbert Sanchez and Grace Zoellner, both of Tucson, Arizona. Frank is also grandfather to Monica, Felicia and Israel Cisneros. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Vincente & Lugarda Padilla, brothers Vincent and Andrew and sister Riena.
A graveside service will be held at the White Dove of the Desert in Tucson, Arizona on a date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
Robert (Bob) P. Geist
March 31, 1918 – May 11, 2010
Bob was born in Portland March 31, 1918 to Gottfried and Elizabeth Geist. At a young age Bob began working in the family business, Geist Department Store which his father started in 1919. Following graduation from Jefferson High School, Bob served four years with the US Air Force stationed in England during World War II. Returning from military service he assumed responsibility for the family store. For approximately 30 years Bob was the driving force that made Geist Department Store on Union Avenue a success. Selling the store in 1972, Bob found retirement not to his liking so he began his second career working for First Far West Insurance Company for several years. When not working Bob’s favorite pastime was tending to his large yard and garden. At different times he owned a cabin at Mt. Hood and a cottage at Oceanside where he loved to host family gatherings. Preceding Bob in death were his brother Ed Geist and sister Delores Stevens. Bob is survived by his sister Florence Swails Mickelson, brother-in-law Howard Stevens, sister-in-law Luretta Geist and nine nieces and nephews. The family will miss Bob and will hold him in our hearts forever. There was only one Uncle Bob. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
Edna (Missie) Eileen Dewey
Edna Eileen Dewey passed away in Woodburn, Oregon on May 1st, 2010. Born February 9th, 1946 in Portland, Oregon, Edna was raised in neighboring Milwaukie where she attended Concord grade school and Milwaukie High School. Edna worked for many years in the healthcare field as a CNA. She enjoyed the company of family and working on crafts, sewing and cooking. She also enjoyed camping.
Edna is survived by her companion Dennis Durst of Woodburn, Oregon. Edna is further survived by her daughter, Yvette Bare, granddaughter Megan Wendt and grandson Brandon Brinton, all of Portland, Indiana. She is also survived by her sisters Judi (husband Tim Waltz), Cherie (husband Rory Fuller) and Susi (husband LeRoy Brooks) and by her brother Robert (and his spouse Rebecca Dewey).

Terri Irene (Spaulding) Brest

Terri Irene Brest passed away in Tualatin, Oregon on May 10th, 2010. Born Terri Irene Spaulding on December 1st, 1959 in Palo Alto, CA she was raised primarily in Cupertino, CA where she graduated from Monta Vista High School in 1978. Terri married Arthur Brest on August 18th, 1984 and they relocated that same year to Oregon to be closer to family. Terri enjoyed camping, fishing, scuba diving and taking cruises with her family, and loved her Border Collie, Casper. She was also an ardent supporter of the music programs at Hazelbrook Middle School, and West Linn High School, and her encouragement and inspiration lead to her children’s accomplishments at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Yale University, Juilliard, and The Colburn Conservatory of Music.
Terri is survived by her husband Arthur Brest of Tualatin, OR, her son Tech. Sgt. Michael Brest, USAF of Alexandria, VA, and daughter Linda Brest of Tualatin, OR. She is additionally survived by her mother, Jeanne Spaulding of Salem, OR, her sister Mary Spaulding of Tualatin, OR and her brother Roy Spaulding of Salem, OR.
