Marie M. Hord
Marie was born September 16, 1927 in Portland Oregon to Theodore and Martha Schade. She left this world on May 21, 2010 with the love of her family surrounding her.
Marie was a 1945 graduate of Commerce High School in Portland. She went on to make her living in the accounting and secretarial fields. She retired from Shoreline School District in Seattle Washington in 1984.
Marie met Glenn Hord through mutual Square Dancing friends on a blind date and after a whirlwind romance they were married on September 21, 1962. During their life together they enjoyed Square Dancing, camping, pinochle, golf and spending time with family and friends. They made Seattle their home for the majority of their marriage until Glenn passed on in 1982.
Marie had always had a love affair with dance, and with Glenn’s passing so began Marie’s passion with competition ballroom dancing. Her passion took Marie to various cities, states, and Canada to compete where she won a plethora of awards that covered the walls in her home for many years. Marie’s health forced her to stop dancing after almost 20 years of competition and shortly thereafter Marie moved to Oregon to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
Marie will be remembered in many ways, but her sense of humor stands out most to those who knew her best. Her belief had always been that if you can’t laugh, life isn’t worth living. That belief became words of wisdom for her family. Marie’s laughter has left us, but her wisdom lives on.
Marie is survived by her brother Arthur Schade of Portland; daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Mike Carpenter of Lafayette; grandson & granddaughter in law Jeffrey & Nounsi Carpenter and her great granddaughter Charli Marie Carpenter of Seattle.
Marie’s family wishes to thank The Village at Hillside of McMinnville and Serenity Hospice for their loving care in Marie’s last few months of her life.
At this time, there will be no formal services.
Memorial contributions in Marie’s name may be made to the American Lung Cancer Association or Homeward Bound Pet Shelter in McMinnville, Oregon. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
