Corrine Marguerette NaSmythe
January 14, 1922 – May 27, 2009
Scappoose resident, Corinne Marguerette NaSmythe, 87, died on May 27, 2009 at Crestview Nursing Home in Portland. Corinne Goodwin was born on January 14, 1922 in Wallowa, Oregon. She lived with her family in Maxville, Oregon, a logging camp which is now a ghost town. In the second grade, they moved to Chiloquin and lived on the reservation where her father worked as a locomotive engineer. During the depression, they moved to St. Johns, Oregon. At the age of 14, Corinne met Perry Eugene NaSmythe, and at 17, the couple married on March 30, 1939 in Portland. This March, Corinne and Perry celebrated their 70th wedding Anniversary.
Corinne was a very talented seamstress. She crocheted, cross-stiched and tatted, and had a creative imagination and usually preferred the extraordinary to the mundane. Corinne also wrote poetry that reflected her deep Christian faith. Many of her poems were published in the Scappoose Spotlight during the 60’s. She was a member of the Valley Hope Church of Hillsboro, Oregon.
Corinne is survived by her husband, Perry Eugene NaSmythe, Sr., of Scappoosse, Oregon; children, Perry NaSmythe, Jr., and wife Debby of Portland, Sally Weber of Vancouver, Washington, Marguerette Langsev and husband Bob of Lake Oswego, Oregon; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held for Corinne on Saturday, June 6th at 1:00 pm, at the Springlake Community Clubhouse at 33749 SE Park Avenue, Scappoose, Oregon 97056. Carl Bertal Kole
September 1, 1917 – May 24, 2009
Carl Bertal Kole, 91, passed away on May 24, 2009 in Wilsonville, Oregon. Carl was born in Jackson, Michigan on September 1, 1917.
Carl served his country in the US Navy from September 15, 1943 to July 31, 1964. Carl retired from the US Navy as a Commander.
Military Services will be held on June 8, 2009 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Kenneth Hugh Marshall
January 27, 1954 – May 23, 2009
Ken Marshall passed away at the age of 55. Ken was born to Robert and Doris Marshall on January 27, 1954 in Portland, Oregon. He passed away on May 23, 2009 in Beaverton, Oregon.
Ken grew up in the Portland area and graduated from John Marshall High School on May 12, 1972. Soon after graduating, he took over his father’s service station business. He later began working as a Machinist for Leupold and Stevens for 30 years. Ken’s hobbies included fishing, NASCAR, traveling, boating and golf to name a few.
Ken was deeply loved and will be missed. Ken is preceded in death by his father Robert Marshall. He is survived by his mother Doris Ford, sons Tom E. Marshall of Beaverton, Nic and wife Michelle Marshall of Troutdale, brother Thomas D. Marshall of Portland, and sisters Gloria Weatherford of Abaco, Bahamas, and Debbie Roberts of Freeport, Bahamas.

Marlin Raymond Goebel
November 1, 1927 – May 21, 2009
Marlin Goebel was born in Portland, Oregon. His father’s family had emigrated from Austria to Edmonton, Alberta. When Marlin’s father was a young man he moved to Portland.
Marlin attended Rigler Grade School, and Benson High School in Portland. He joined the Navy and served on an oil tanker in the Middle East for most of his two years of service. He travelled around the world while in the Navy.
Marlin attended Vanport College (Portland State University) for two years and then attended the University of Oregon, graduating with a BS in accounting. He moved to Los Angeles working as a CPA where he met his first wife, Barbara Thompson. They had six children and lived in NE Portland.
Marlin was a CPA in Portland for over 30 years. He was a partner in several CPA firms during the 1960’s and 70’s. In 1980 he formed his own CPA firm, The Goebel Company. Marlin had a passion for tennis. In 1966 he was influential in the Irvington Club’s decision to build covered tennis courts, the first in the Northwest. Throughout the years, Marlin also played on many United States Tennis Association teams for the Multnomah Athletic Club.
In 1986 he married Linda Kilham Hedford. In Marlin’s retirement years they enjoyed extensive travel. In 1999 they moved to their home at Black Butte Ranch. They enjoyed the activity oriented lifestyle there.
Marlin was a long time member of the Multnomah Athletic Club, and past member of the Arlington Club, the Mt. Park Racquet Club, the Irvington Club, Downtown Rotary, and he was a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business in 1986. Marlin was a member of Trinity Cathedral in Portland, and the Church of the Transfiguration in Sisters, Oregon. He was also a lifetime member of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Linda, and by his children: Cathy Goebel Ochrym of Ballston Lake, NY; Marlin L. of Milwaukie, OR; Nancy Webb of Nokomis, FL; Michael of Mt. View, CA; Patrick of Portland, OR; and David of Seattle, WA.
Marlin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His Memorial Service will be at 1 pm, Tuesday May 26th, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 147 NW 19th Ave., Portland, OR 97209. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations go to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Marlin Goebel, 1650 N.W. Natio Parkway, Suite #190, Portland, Oregon 97209.

Jimmie Sue Claytor
Gresham – Jimmie Sue passed away in the early hours of May 30, at the age of 71. She was born to Floyd and Dorothy Gray, June 25, 1938 in Yukon, OK. She met and married James Claytor, Sr, June 9, 1961 in Canoga Park, CA. They moved to Oregon April 2001 after living in California and Texas. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.
Jimmie Sue is survived by her spouse of 48 years James Claytor, Sr.; son James “Butch” (Maria) Farrell Claytor, Jr, son Erick (Pamela) Steven Claytor, grandchildren Dallas, Aspen, Edna, Edgar, and Susannah; sisters Andy Belisle, Joan McAlpine, Debbie Sherfield and brother Michael Gray. She is preceded in death by her siblings Harold Gray and Joy Gray and her daughter Lucinda Claytor.
Marilyn Lula Campbell
Marilyn Lula Campbell passed away on May 30th in Portland, Oregon. She was eighty years of age. The last of twelve children, Marilyn was born on April 4th, 1930 in Lithium, Missouri. Having moved to Oregon while a teenager, she worked for many years as a nurse. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets, reading books and attending Grace Baptist Church in Portland.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter Bonnie Halferty and grandchildren Amanda Tripp, Stephanie Halferty and Andrew Halferty. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Trevor Harmon, Ashley Tripp, Shayn Tripp, Austin Halferty, Alex Halferty and Journey Fox.
