Elizabeth Lynne Smith, 66, died on June 8, 2009 in Portland. Elizabeth Dunn was born on October 16, 1942 in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Benjamin and Ada Dunn. She was raised in Juneau, Alaska, where she attended High School. At the age of 17, Elizabeth moved to Los Angeles with her family, and she married David Smith in 1963. Elizabeth and David had three children, Bridgette, Kelly and Jason. Elizabeth loved history, genealogy, politics and researching current events on the internet.
She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Smith of Beaverton, Bridgette Smith or Norcross, GA, son, Jason Smith of Portland, niece and nephew, Amy Velasquez and Matt Bell, and 2 grandchildren. “Peggy” Hazel Margaret Gralvin
July 23, 1932 – June 5, 2009
Gladstone resident, “Peggy” Hazel Galvin, 76, died on June 5, 2009. Peggy was born on July 23, 1932 in Wisconsin, and was raised in North Dakota. Peggy moved to Deer Park, Washington in her 20’s, and to the Portland area a few years later. Since the 1970’s, Peggy has resided in Milwaukie and Gladstone. For the past few years, she has been working at Fabric Depot in Portland. Some of Peggy’s hobbies include sewing, cooking, and caring for her grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her children, Rebecca Conway of Redmond, OR, Marion Bowen of Beaverton, OR, Ralph Bowen and wife Kathy of Vallejo, CA, Becky Geary of Gresham, Jeff Dunbar of the Dalles, Debbie Ames and husband Greg of the Dalles, Vickie Smead and husband Bill of Beaverton, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie Eileen Spry
September 9, 1919 – February 7, 2009
Marie Eileen Spry, 89, passed away on February 7, 2009 in Newberg, Oregon. Marie was born in Portland, Oregon on September 9, 1919 to Thomas J. and Marie A. (Suess) Doyle.
Marie worked as a labor worker in various locations one place of employment was the Pendleton Woolen Mills where she worked for many years.

Phyllis Denise Williams-Warren
Phylllis Denise Williams-Warren, 49, passed away on February 1st, 2009. Phyllis was born on November 21, 1959 in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School in 1978, and attended Mt. Hood Community College. In 1988, Phyllis attended a Tony Robbins seminar where she met her future husband, Jeff Warren, as they walked over coals together. The couple married in July of 1992. Phyllis was primarily a homemaker, and her top priority in life was her community ministry work with Jehovah’s Witnesses. She would work endless hours into the night to reach out to those in need, mainly focusing her ministries towards children, doctors, nurses, police men and the dying. Outside of Phyllis’s ministries, she loved music, dancing, and children.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jeff Warren; her parents, Barbara Wager and Thomas Marks, Jr.; sisters, Patrice Williams, Wendy Williams, Erica Williams; mother-in-law, Ellen Schacher; father-in –law, Jack Warren and wife Dea; sisters-in-law, Julie Waters and Robin Kabrich; and her niece, Amore. There is a Memorial Service for Phyllis on Saturday, February 7th at 4:00 pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, at 7650 SW Hall Blvd., Beaverton, OR 97008.

Nancy Joy Karlov
July 28, 1948 – February 1, 2009
Nancy Joy Karlov, 60, passed away in Portland, Oregon. Nancy was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 28, 1948 to Martin and Lillian (Sweeney) Karlov.
Nancy had an Associates Degree and worked in the health care industry as a Registered Nurse.
Nancy is survived by her father, Martin Karlov; brothers, Michal and his wife Katherine, Jack and his wife Susan, Steve and his wife Nancy, and Dave Karlov; sister Mary Karlov.
A private service will be held in Illinois at a later date.

Oral B. Tish
04/18/1919 - 07/28/2009
Oral B. Tish was born April 18, 1919, in Greenleaf, Idaho, and died July 28, 2009, in Neworeberg. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beatrice; children, Brooks and Dorothy Tish, Barbara Anderson, Eugene and Carol Tish, and Gary and Paulette Gledhill; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Oral taught at George Fox College (now George Fox University), pastored churches in California and farmed for many years in Idaho. At age 62 he and his wife moved to Oregon where they owned 7-Eleven franchises in Salem and Portland. During retirement Oral grew beautiful roses which he loved to share with those around him. Most recently Oral lived at Friendsview Retirement Community in Newberg. Oral loved people and was deeply loved in return. He will be greatly missed. A public memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, in Friends Church, 307 S. College St., Newberg. Reverend Hershel Dane Dunlap
Reverend Hershel Dane Dunlap was born May 30, 1927 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Emmit and Myrtle Dunlap. He passed into everlasting life to be with the Savior he trusted on July 28, 2009 at his home in McMinnville, Oregon surrounded by his loving wife, his three daughters, and his wife’s sister.
As an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, Rev. Dunlap pastored and ministered at churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and Oregon over a span of six decades. A veteran who served during World War II, he achieved the rank of corporal in the United States Air Force.
In 1947, he married his bride, Margie Louise Lankford Dunlap in Paris, Texas. They celebrated 62 years of marriage the 21st of May. Reverend Dunlap was preceded in death by both parents, his sister Bertha White, and two brothers, Ruiel and Calvin Dunlap, and a grandson, Lanty Huffman. He is survived by his wife, Louise Dunlap of McMinnville, Oregon, Linda Collins of Beaverton, Oregon, Patty Helige of Salem, Oregon, and Jodi Detrick of North Bend, Washington, as well as six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Beulah Trout and Nelda Caldwell of Clarksville, Arkansas, and Yvonna Bowles of Portland, Oregon.
Reverend Dunlap dearly loved his family and especially delighted in the grandbabies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid hunter who enjoyed traveling in his motor home and camping in the woods. In his last years, he especially delighted in their dog, Daisy, and laughing at her antics.
The Memorial Celebration service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Valley Latin Assembly (formerly Dayton Assembly of God Church), 5th and Oak Streets in Dayton. Leonard Stephen Register
Leonard Stephen Register, 56, of Newport, Ore., died of cancer on July 26, 2009 at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland.
He was born June 6, 1953 to Leonard Joseph Register and Frances Dolores White in Swindon, England. He grew up in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Andress High School in 1971. He went to the University of Texas at El Paso on a football scholarship and played for the Miners for one season before joining the military.
He served with the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976 and received a National Defense Service Medal while aboard the U.S.S. Belknap.
He went on to work for the U.S. Department of Defense at White Sands Missile Range. He later became a paramedic and worked for 20 years in various locations, including Hatch, N.M. and New Orleans. Eventually, he settled in Newport and worked for the Yachats Rural Fire Protection District from 2002 to 2007.
He loved nature and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, skiing and hunting. He was a dedicated, loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Joseph Register and sister, Sandra Register Confer.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lynn Register of Newport; mother, Frances Dolores Register; sons, Shay Hunter Register of Newport, Chase Stephen Register of Las Cruces, N.M. and Charles Leonard Stephen Register; daughter, Rebecca Lyn Register of Las Cruces, N.M.; sister, Peggy (Greg) Register Brown of El Paso, Texas; brother-in-law Ray Confer of El Paso; nieces, JoLen Confer, Catherine Confer and LeAnn Garrison, all of El Paso; and nephew, Joseph Garrison of El Paso.
A military service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso. A celebration of life will be in Newport at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
