Louis King

Louis King, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on December 4, 2009, at the age of 85. Louis was born in the home of his grandparents in Garfield, New Jersey to James and Emma King on March 12, 1924. He was raised in Clifton, New Jersey, a childhood that could be described as very happy. After high school, he joined the Merchant Marines, a career choice that afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively. Louis served in World War II from 1944-1945. He loved visiting different ports and people all around the world. He was a Merchant Marine for approximately 50 years, from 1944 through 1994. Louis moved to the Portland area in 1956, and in 1970, he married Linda Elaine Guess. Their partnership lasted just over 39 years, and the two had son, Daniel on April 25, 1987. Louis was known to love watching TV Westerns, fishing, watching softball and volleyball, playing cards, going for long drives, going to the beach, singing and spending time with his son. He loved all animals, particularly dogs and cats, but he also liked to feed squirrels and birds. He was described by his wife as very jovial and very Irish. He belonged to the Sailor’s Union of the Pacific., the American Legion, and he was a loyal supporter of the Oregon Humane Society.

Louis is survived by wife, Linda Elaine Guess King and son, Daniel Ryan Kelly King. He was preceded in death by his six siblings, Marie, William, Walter, James, Ruth, and Kate King. and his parents, James and Emma King. The family has decided to have a Memorial Service at Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors in the late spring of 2010. Arrangements were made with Crown Memorial Center at the Milwaukie location.

Patricia Ann Humbert

August 3, 1936 – December 3, 2009

Canby – Patricia was born in New Jersey and moved to Illinois with her parents Fredrick and Ethel Humbert. She later moved to El Paso, Texas, La Grande, Oregon and then to Canby, Oregon where she managed the Kiwanis Thrift Store. She was a regular volunteer at the Canby Library. She was the matriarch of a very large family and is survived by her partner in life Jack; her seven children David, Deborah, Pat, Beth, Karla, Karen and Timothy; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, a sister Sue Hefley of Oklahoma and a brother Jim Humbert of Illinois. Patricia loved being around her family and beloved dog Carmel. She loved to garden and cook and often shared the fruits of her labor with neighbors and friends. Many will remember the smiles, bread and angels she always carried with her. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church for many years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 8818 SW Miley Rd., Wilsonville, OR. Saturday December 12th at 1pm. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center in Salem, Oregon.

Marc Edward Wilson

Portland native, Marc Edward Wilson, died on December 2, 2009. Marc was born on September 9, 1955 to John and Margueritte Wilson. He loved Oregon so much that he chose never to leave. Marc married Lynne Wilson and they had daughter, Nicole, on September 8, 1985. Marc worked as a Fabricator for 35+ years and liked to spend his free time restoring old cars.

Marc Is survived by wife, Lynne Wilson; daughter, Nicole Mengis; sister, Linda Arends; brothers, Robert and Steve Wilson; and granddaughter, Lexi Mengis. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margueritte Wilson. A private service will be held at a later date for friends and family. Arrangements were made with Crown Memorial Center – Milwaukie.

Mary Lynn Manion Stephens

Mary passed away in the morning hours of December 1, 2009 at the age of 54. She was born on January 30, 1955 to Wayne and Roberta Manion in Panama. She was a well loved teacher in Salem, OR and she was known for her good heart and kindness. Mary loved visiting the Oregon coast and having dinner at Pier 101. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry.

Mary is survived by her son Christopher Stephens; brothers Ed and Jim Manion; sister Joyce Uravich; fiance Arthur Dreams II and his family: sons Arthur Dreams III and Andre Dreams; grandchildren Maneesha, Arthur the IIII, Atavius and Amir. A service will be held Saturday, December 5th at 1:00 PM at Lancaster Assembly of God 491 Lancaster Dr NE in Salem. Arrangements entrusted to Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

James Charles Staunton

James Charles Staunton, 73, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on the evening of December 1, 2009. Jim was born to James and Concetta Staunton in Newark, New Jersey, on August 11, 1936. He married Patricia Dilts in 1956; the two later divorced, and James went on to marry Marcia Honey in 1993. Their union created a beautiful blended family filled with many children. Jim worked as a Long Haul Truck Driver, a job that he had been doing in the Pacific Northwest for the past 25 years.

James is survived by his wife, Marcia Staunton, of Portland, OR; son, Adrian Honey of Portland, OR; son, TJ Staunton, of New Jersey; daughter, Elizabeth Tinnes, of New Jersey; daughter, Patricia Bavos, of New Jersey; son, Robert Staunton, of Salem, OR ; daughter, Joanna Chica, of North Carolina; and brother, Gerald Staunton, of New Jersey. James also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Concetta Staunton, his brother, Wayne, and his son, James. There will be a gathering held at the family home on December 12, 2009, from 1-4 pm for friends and family. Arrangements were made with Crown Memorial Center in Milwaukie.

Lisa Ann Olsson (Hammer)

Lisa Olsson Lisa Ann Olsson aka Lisa Hammer, 45, passed away on January 30, 2010. Lisa lost her life due to a five year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Lisa Ann Folk was born March 29, 1964 at Portland Emanuel Hospital. Lisa was raised in West Linn and lived most of her adult life in Lake Oswego. Lisa’s primary career was as a Litigation Paralegal. Lisa had a passion for hiking, skiing, traveling, fashion and decorating. Lisa enjoyed spending time with her son.

Lisa leaves behind her 13 year old son, Andrew Olsson; and significant other, Mike Passarge; and many loving friends. She left behind a legacy of laughter and living life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be at 4 pm on Friday, February 5th at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5415 SE Powell Blvd., Portland, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at Lake Oswego Heritage House at 398 10th Street, Lake Oswego. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Lisa Olsson foundation at 2202 NW 141st Street, Vancouver, Washington 98685.

Hurshel Larry Perkins

Hurshel Larry Perkins, 66, of Albany, passed away Friday of a massive heart attack. He was born in West Stayton, the son of Clay Clayton Sr and Beulah Perkins. He attended school in Jefferson where in November of 1962 he met and married Winona Hardin. They were married 24 years and remained good friends. He worked in mills, farming and trucking, more or a less a jack of all trades. He had a great love of life and lived his to the fullest. He was a loving and giving father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and his hunting trips with his sons. He loved his western movies and his cold Hamms.

Dad, you are already so greatly missed, and remember your kids love you.

P.S. Take good care of mom for us.

Hurshel is survived by his sons, Warren Perkins, Joe Perkins, Gary Perkins, James King and Keith Perkins; daughter Lynette Perkins; Daughter-in-laws, Shelly Perkins and Heather Perkins; six grandsons, two granddaughters, with one on the way; brothers, Frank Perkins and Kenny Perkins of Albany; sisters, Roberta Long of Aumsville, Lori Barney and Sharon James of Albany. He is preceded in death by brothers, Clay Clayton Perkins Jr and James Fredrick Perkins; sister Charlene Lafavor and daughter-in-law Tammy Perkins. Arrangements entrusted to Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Eric Glen Wilson

Eric Glen Wilson, 33, passed away at his home on January 28, 2010. Eric was born in Portland, Oregon on August 26, 1976 and grew up in Gresham. He attended Gresham High School and later became a carpenter. During his career, he worked for various companies and his favorite part of the job was framing. Eric loved and appreciated the outdoors and always found time to go hiking, camping and backpacking. He had a strong love for the Lord and was a skilled craftsman, capable of making his own guitars to strum. There was a soft spot in Eric’s heart for the homeless and he continuously found ways to help others out.

Eric is survived by his son Elijah Wilson; mother Diana Olsen of Portland and father Don Olsen of Hawaii; brothers Tony Wilson, Nate Olsen, Keith Korter and Nick Olsen; sister Amber Malekshahi and her husband Saeed; and niece and nephew Donnie and Joshua. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Faith Chapel, 3132 SE 67th Avenue, Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation in remembrance of Eric be sent to the Portland Rescue Mission at www.PortlandRescueMission.org. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.

Robert “Bob” Eugene Welch

Bob passed away in the early afternoon hours of Jan. 28 at the age of 84. He was born in Center Junction, IA, Aug. 28, 1925 to Albert and Josephine Welch. After high school he joined the military serving in both the Navy and the Army. He married Florence Nowack in 1951 and they moved to Oregon in May of 1960 where Bob eventually retired as a security officer for the State of Oregon.

Bob is survived by his spouse Florence, his sons David (Wanda) and Eric Welch; grandson Michael; sister Nelda Densmore and sister-in-law Frances Moon. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM, February 6, Community of Christ 4570 Center St NE, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Outreach International. Arrangements entrusted to Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Lois Lorraine Nordquist

Lois Lorraine Nordquist passed away at her home in Milwaukie on January 27, 2010 at the age of 86. The Murphysboro, Illinois native was born to A.K. and Alice Ledbetter on the 1st of December in 1923. Upon graduation from Southern Illinois University, where she attained a Bachelor’s degree in History and English, Lois moved to Washington state. Lois did a year of graduate study in Pullman, Washington but did not achieve a Master’s degree. She did later go back to school and got a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Pacific Lutheran University which is located around Tacoma, Washington. The multi-faceted Lois taught at several community colleges in both Auburn, Washington and Centralia, Washington, worked as a hypnotherapist for several years in Port Townsend, and even tried her hand at realty for one year. In her spare time, Lois loved to read and travel; she traveled extensively in the Far East and the United States and visited Mexico, England and France.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Barbara Nordquist Schuster, and two grandsons, Chris and Matt Schuster. A Memorial Service will be held for Lois at a later date. Arrangements were made with Crown Memorial Center in Milwaukie.
