Betty Jean Lutz
May 17, 1945 – December 4, 2009
Betty Jean Lutz passed away on December 4, 2009 in Portland at the age of 64. Betty was born May 17, 1945 in Lehi, Utah to George and Elsie (Otterson) Pace. She grew up in Utah and ended up marrying her sweetheart James Lutz in Belton, Texas on July 4th, 1965. They moved to the Portland area in 1984 with their family. Betty was a homemaker, first and foremost. She took her role as wife, mother and grandmother very seriously; so much so that she would always take care of everyone else before she even thought of taking care of herself. Her family recalls how much she gave – of her time, food to others in need – whatever she was able to. Betty was very well liked by all who knew her, and she touched people’s lives in ways she didn’t even understand. When seemingly perfect strangers were weeping in the hospital during her illness, her family knew she was someone unique; their own gem.
Betty is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Michael and Jody Lutz of Portland, OR; son Robert Lutz of California; son Kenny Lutz and his partner Tammy Conrad of Vancouver, WA; daughter and son-in-law Theresa and Donald Jones of Spanaway, WA; son Steve Lutz of Portland; brothers Larry & Ferron Pace; and sister, Donna Smith. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, who she adored. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 12:00 pm at St. Andrews Catholic Church in NE Portland.
