Lavern Holmes
Worked at Bohemia Lumber Co.
Lavern Henry Holmes of Cottage Grove died on Jan. 31, 2000, of congestive heart failure. He was 70.
He was born on May 2, 1929, in Eugene to Frank and Charlotta Holmes.
Mr. Holmes married Mary D. Cornell on Oct. 8, 1994, in Ketchican, Alaska.
He was a mill worker for Bohemia Lumber Co.
He enjoyed gardening, farming and visiting friends and family.
Mr. Holmes was involved in the ministry of the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Nancy Hass of Dayton; four sons, Dan Holmes of Tomball, Texas, Sonny Gordon and Tim Cornell, both of Ketchican, Alaska, and Leslie Gordon of Seattle, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial was Friday at the Family Praise Center. Inurnment was at Fir Grove Cemetery.

Lake Ledford
Served in the U.S. Army
Lake Robert Ledford of Curtin died on Feb. 2, 2000, of age-related causes. He was 82.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1917, in Blairsville, Ga., to Burt and Callie Ledford and married Coy Carringer on April 27, 1939, in Hiawassee, Ga.
He was a resident of Vale before moving to Cottage Grove in 1992.
Mr. Ledford was a logger and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Medford.
Mr. Ledford is survived by four sons, Sammy Ledford of Haysville, N.C., Jack Ledford of Twitty, Texas, Vince Ledford of Cottage Grove and Gary Ledford of Tempe, Ariz.; six daughters, Carrie Blanchard of Drain, Wanda Farrell of Madras, Peggy Cook of Cottage Grove, Helen Willis and Linda Ledford, both of Medford, and Betty Steele of Concord, Calif.; three sisters, Truly Odom and Hazel Townsend, both of North Carolina, and Gladys Postell of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Ledford.
The funeral was Monday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Comstock Cemetery in Curtin.

Janette Fromong Cole
Enjoyed bowling and camping
Janette L. Fromong Cole of Brookings, and formerly of Cottage Grove, died on Jan. 31, 2000, of cancer. She was 54.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1945, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Earnest and Vera Massy.
She married Ronald Cole on June 7, 1996, in Eugene.
Mrs. Fromong Cole was a homemaker who enjoyed bowling, camping and dancing.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Raymond Lisburg of Pleasant Hill, Robert Bruyneel and David Fromong, both of Cottage Grove; two daughters, Tammy Epple of Eugene and Debbie Epple of Cottage Grove; a sister, Millie Johnson of Eugene; and three grandchildren.
A service was held Saturday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Fir Grove Cemetery.

Maene Munsell
1921-2003
Maene Hamilton Munsell of Cottage Grove died July 12 of Parkinson's disease. She was 81.
Munsell was born Dec. 24, 1921, at the family home in Medicine Lodge, Kan., to Jay and Iva Axtell Warren. She moved to Cottage Grove in 1948.
In 1948, she married Clyde Hamilton. He died in 1963. She married George Munsell in Reno, Nev., on March 8, 1969.
Munsell was as an avid sports fan. She bowled many years and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Bob Hamilton of Cottage Grove; two stepdaughters, Cathy Perez and Barbara Wiscarson, also of Cottage Grove; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. An infant daughter died in 1959.
A memorial service was held July 21 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Private inurnment was at Fir Grove Cemetery.

Pauline Mannings
1943-2003
Pauline H. Mannings of Cottage Grove died July 19 at age 60. Her family chose not to list the cause of death.
Mannings was born Feb. 17, 1943, in Hatfield, Ark., to Paul and Genola Colley Carter.
Her family moved to Cottage Grove when she was a child. She attended Jefferson Middle School and graduated from Cottage Grove High School.
She was a homemaker, and she enjoyed crocheting, quilting and collecting pigs. She was a member of the West Cottage Grove Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses and was an active missionary on a Navajo reservation in years past.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Nelson of Peoria, Ariz.; a sister, Karen Solesbee of Cottage Grove; a brother, Paul Carter of Cottage Grove; and two grandchildren.
A funeral was held July 24 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Fir Grove Cemetery.

Kenneth Grover
1925-2003
Kenneth H. Grover of Cottage Grove died July 14 of a stroke. He was 77.
Grover was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Waterville, Minn., to Arthur and Ruby Prehn Grover. He married Lorayne Bartle in Waterville on Aug. 25, 1947.
He served with the Marine Corps 5th Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima and was a part of the occupation forces in Japan following the war. He lived in this area for 53 years and worked as a carpenter.
He was an avid Ducks fan, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He was a past president of the Cottage Grove-Eugene Sportsman's Club, and he served as a member of the 45J3 School District school board.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael and Bradley, both of Cottage Grove and Patrick of Washougal, Wash.; four brothers, Robert of Minneapolis, Roger of Buena Vista, Colo., Curtis of Cottage Grove and Dennis of Harris, Minn.; a sister, Ruth Beers of Bemidji, Minn.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
