Mikel Anthony Boire
March 22, 1970 — September 26, 2009Mikel Boire
Mike Boire passed away September 26, in Wilsonville, Oregon. Mike was born in Portland and was celebrated as the First Child of Spring by the Rose Festival Association. He attended schools in the Centennial District and Mt Hood Community College. Mike worked summers as a pipefitter and machinist in the Alaska Seafood Industry.
During winter months, Mike worked in and taught theatre in Kalispell, Whitefish and Missoula, Montana. He was a superb actor, a fine director and an inspiring teacher – and he could sing. One year he was selected as the Grand Marshall of the Whitefish Winter Carnival following his wonderful portrayal as the Ghost of Elvis.
Mike loved the pace of life in the small Alaska cannery towns stretching from Kodiak Island to Ketchikan, and traveled there each spring before the salmon started to arrive, to get the canneries ready to process the catch. When cannery work slowed, Mike organized impromptu stage and talent shows among the college-age cannery workers who still retell stories of their remarkable Alaska adventures.
Mike was never one for the common path. He was unique – summers in Alaska, winters in Montana, never much money – but he was one of the wealthiest of people in ways our culture undervalues. His wealth was his friends, and he had them by the hundreds. His friends loved him. His family adored him. He touched lives every day. Heaven would not be heaven without Mike.
Mike is survived by his father and stepmother Ken and Nancy Boire of Beaverton; mother and stepfather Stephani and David White of Wilsonville; brother Todd Boire, Portland; sister and brother-in-law Michelle and Jack Lindersmith of Battleground; nephews Sedale Boire and Zane Lindersmith; half brother Andy Gillam of Texas; step siblings Katrina Moyer, Cherina Burch and Nathan Beck.
A potluck Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held October 10, starting at 2 PM, at the Charbonneau Country Club, 32000 SW Charbonneau Dr, Wilsonville, OR 97070. Friends of Mike and his family are invited.
The family requests that remembrances be sent to the Drama Program at Flathead Valley Community College, Kalispell, Montana, or to the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Conservation Fund. Details available from Crown Memorial Center, Tualatin.
