Gardner A. 'Tony' Goodrich
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Gardner A. "Tony" Goodrich, who died Sept. 27 at age 64. Mr. Goodrich was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Evanston, Ill., and moved to Lake Oswego in 1946. He graduated from Lake Oswego High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was an investigator for the Oregon Department of Transportation for eight years, retiring in 1998. In 1960, he married
Sharlene Robinson.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Victoria; son, Brian; brother, Michael; and one grandchild.

Henry Hiltwein
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Vancouver, Wash., for Henry Hiltwein, who died Sept. 28 at age 78. Mr. Hiltwein was born March 27, 1923, in Waubun, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army. He moved in 1972 to Vancouver, and was an air conditioning and furnace installer, retiring in about 1992.
Survivors include his daughters, Rhonda Lepak and Connie Mager; sons, Kevin Michaels and Hank; sister, Marcy Fagerly; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery in Vancouver.
Margaret Hopkins
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, in Milwaukie Presbyterian Church in Milwaukie for Margaret Hopkins, who died Sept. 22 at age 92. Mrs. Hopkins was born Margaret Fowler on Jan. 24, 1909, in Aitkin, Minn. She graduated from Washington State College. She was a high school teacher in Washington and Oregon and was also a homemaker. She moved in 1961 to Milwaukie. In 1990, she donated the Hopkins Memorial Tree Farm to Forests Forever Inc., a nonprofit organization. She was a 40-year member of the church. In 1933, she married
Howard Hopkins; he died in 1989.
Survivors include her daughters, Connie Battaile and Jill Herzig; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bettie J. Jenkins
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, in St. Mark Baptist Church in Portland for Bettie J. Jenkins, who died Sept. 21 at age 43. Miss Jenkins was born Oct. 29, 1957, in Monroe, La. She moved to Portland in 1973 and graduated from Adams High School. She was a nurse's aide for Evergreen Karrington Care Center for the past two years.
Survivors include her mother, Anne; brothers, Robert L. Robinson, Willie L. Robinson, LeRoy Robinson, Elmos L. Jenkins Jr., Bobby R. Jenkins, Charles Jenkins and Rusty J. Jenkins; and sisters, Mary S. Jenkins, Martha L. Jenkins, Clara A. Jenkins and Pam Jenkins.

Joseph Albert Jennett Jr.
A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Canby Assembly of God Church for Joseph Albert Jennett Jr., who died Sept. 28 of appendicitis at age 15. Joseph was born Jan. 15, 1986, in Utica, N.Y. He moved to Canby in 1991 and was a sophomore at Canby Union High School. He was a member of the church.
Survivors include his parents, Colleen and Joseph Sr.; and sister, Shawna Bisson-Brito.

Edward Laughlin
A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton for Edward "Mr. Ed" Laughlin, who died Sept. 29 at age 72. Mr. Laughlin was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Pueblo, Colo. A retired sales manager for a concrete supply company in Pueblo, he moved in June to Beaverton. He was a past grand knight and district deputy of the Knights of Columbus. In 1951, he married
Rose Marie Brown; she died in 1973.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathie Petty, Cindy Kayton, Annette Zakrajsek and Cammy Kinser; son, Paul; sisters, Lillian Gallimore and Margaret Irvine; brothers, George, Joe, Bob and Bill; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William Ira Logan
William Ira Logan died Sept. 20, 2001, at age 100. Mr. Logan was born March 6, 1901, in Arkansas City, Kan. He moved to Portland in 1943 and was a machinist for Iron Fireman, Paul Westfall Equipment and FWD Wagner, and then for Airflo until his final retirement in 1978. In 1932, he married
Marie Lindstrom.
Survivors include his wife; brother, Tom; and nieces and nephews.

Fern V. Matthews
Fern V. Matthews died Sept. 20, 2001, at age 85. Mrs. Matthews was born Fern Keith on July 14, 1916, in Boise. She lived in Portland from 1940 to 1989 and was a property manager for various apartments. In 1937, she married
Irving Matthews; he died in 1975.
Survivors include her son, Jerry; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Michael David May
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Gresham Funeral Chapel for Michael David May, who died Sept. 30 in a motorcycle accident at age 29. Mr. May was born April 15, 1972, in Portland. He was a maintenance man for Princeton Property Management for the past four years.
Survivors include his son, Tyler J.; stepdaughter, Chelsey Cook; parents, Eileen and Dennis Atkinson; brothers, Brent Atkinson and Brad Atkinson; and sister, Heather.
Interment in Sandy Ridge cemetery. Remembrances to a favorite charity.
James Stanley Novak
James Stanley Novak died Sept. 15, 2001, at age 58. Mr. Novak was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Lake Stevens, Wash., and was raised in Portland. He held several jobs, including at Outback Steakhouse, Holladay Park Plaza and the Salvation Army. He was a participant since age 15 in Special Olympics, particularly in softball, basketball and bowling, and he also was involved with People First of Oregon. He was a resident of the Pine Street Group Home since 1995.
Survivors include his brother, Gary.

Kathleen McIntosh Roberts
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in St. Rita Catholic Church in Portland for Kathleen McIntosh Roberts, who died Sept. 29 at age 81. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Zeller Chapel of the Roses. Mrs. Roberts was born Kathleen Carr on Nov. 21, 1919, in Oswego, Mont., and moved to Portland in 1928. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy. She co-founded Ideal Food Products in Vancouver, Wash., and was its bookkeeper until retiring in about 1980. She was a 50-year member of the church. In the late 1940s, she married
Robert V. McIntosh; he died in 1980. In 1983, she married
Paul Roberts.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Julia Harris and Susan MacDonald; sons, Robert McIntosh and James McIntosh; sisters, Anna Marie Dorr and Monica Wycoff; brothers, James Carr and Patrick Carr; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Interment in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. Remembrances to the church's Women's Guild.
Lillie Tucker
A service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Lillie Tucker, who died Sept. 28 at age 95. Mrs. Tucker was born Lillie Scribner on Aug. 3, 1906, in Ava, Mo. A homemaker, she moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 1955. In 1950, she married
Lloyd B. Tucker; he died in 1989.
Survivors include her sons, Howard L. Poyner and Russell C. Poyner; sisters, Florence Silva, Maudie Horner and Ethel Hayden; brother, Red Scribner; and nine grandchildren.

Ernest L. Vahldieck
Ernest L. Vahldieck died Sept. 5, 2001, at age 89. Mr. Vahldieck was born Nov. 8, 1911, in Ringstead, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1930 and 1931 and was an upholsterer for Fashion Craft, retiring in 1974. He moved in 1942 to Portland. In 1932, he married
Beth Carter; she died in 1967.
Survivors include his daughter, Lona L. Criswell; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
