Melvin Terrill

Melvin Terrill died May 25, 2001, at age 52. Mr. Terrill was born Aug. 23, 1948, in Portland. He was raised in Sandy and worked for 25 years as a logger. He was a metals buyer for Davis Recycling Ltd. in Clackamas for the past nine years. In 1966, he married Susan Hamilton; they later divorced. In 1976, he married Lois Williams.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Kevin, Jason, James, Chris and Brian; father, Lawrence; brothers, Donald, Norman and Eldon; sisters, Elaine Overton and Shirley Barstad; and nine grandchildren.

Service held. Interment in Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements by Sandy Funeral Home.

Helene Hidden Van Buren

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at First Unitarian Church for Helene Hidden Van Buren, who died May 22 at age 89. Mrs. Van Buren was born Helene Hidden on Sept. 24, 1911, in Vancouver, Wash. She moved to Portland in 1947. She attended Reed College and the University of Washington, and was a social worker and homemaker. In 1942, she married Evans W. Van Buren; he died in 1961.

Survivors include her sons, Evans, John and Mason; and four grandchildren.

Remembrances to Planned Parenthood of Columbia/Willamette for the Helen Hidden Van Buren Center in Vancouver. Arrangements by Vancouver Funeral Chapel.

Patricia May Vetor

A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Patricia May Vetor, who died May 30 at age 54. Mrs. Vetor was born Patricia Meadows on Oct. 5, 1946, in Vancouver, Wash. As a child she moved to Portland. She worked as a clothing presser at Aramark Corp., an industrial laundry, for 27 years. In 1987, she married Scott Vetor; he died in 1989.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Shore; brother, Robert Meadows; sisters, Pamela Anderson, Diana Ingersoll, Loretta Koffman, Marina McConnell, Adrena Moody and Jenette Perez; and one grandchild.

Arrangements by Lincoln Willamette.

Andrea Nicole Ward

A service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Andrea Nicole Ward, who died May 27 when a concrete wall collapsed on her. She was 6. Miss Ward was born March 28, 1995, in Portland, where she lived all of her life. She attended kindergarten at Wilcox Elementary School in Northeast Portland.

She is survived by her mother, Judy Skibba; father, Lewis Ward; brothers, David Ward and Steven Ward; sisters, Suzanne Skibba and Tina Skibba; and grandparents, Dorothy Adkins and William and Josephine Schaffer.

Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park. Remembrances to the Andrea Ward Memorial Fund at any branch of Wells Fargo Bank.

Virginia Slocum Weaver

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Epiphany Parish in Seattle for Virginia Slocum Weaver, who died May 10 at age 87. Mrs. Weaver was born Virginia Slocum on Jan. 20, 1914, in Portland. She graduated from Catlin Gabel School and from Stanford University. She moved to Seattle in 1936 and lived in California before returning to Seattle in 1983. A self-employed interior designer, she retired in 1990. She was a founding trustee of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In 1942, she married Stuart Eldredge Weaver Jr.; he died in 1984.

Survivors include her daughters, Laurie Austin and Kerry; sister, Sally Davis; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Art Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Arrangements by Bleitz in Seattle.

Howard M. Weygandt

Howard M. Weygandt died May 19, 2001, at age 60. Mr. Weygandt was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Oregon. He served in the merchant marine and worked in a paper mill in Port Angeles, Wash., before moving to Portland several years ago. He married Carol Henderson; she died in 1991.

Survivors include his niece, Sunray Henderson; and friends, Sharon and Jimmy Gaskell.

No service. Arrangements by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Harmony Kya Lynn Wheeler

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Springfield Church of God in Springfield for Harmony Kya Lynn Wheeler, who died May 19 in a car accident at age 8. Harmony was born March 11, 1993, in Portland. She had attended Wilkes Elementary School.

Survivors include her parents, Nate and Tanya; and grandparents, Lloyd and Bernadette Crepeau, Mike and Norma Arens, and Brenda Ho.

Marguerite B. Wormworth

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in Rose City cemetery for Marguerite B. Wormworth, who died May 29 at age 88. Mrs. Wormworth was born Marguerite B. Dressler on Jan. 20, 1913, in Portland, where she lived all of her life. She graduated from Commerce High School and was a clerk for an insurance company. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In 1937, she married Harold Wormworth; he died in 1994.

Survivors include her cousins, Henry Bauer, Henry Geres and Daniel Geres.

Stanley Haruo Sasaki

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, in Grace Lutheran Church in Portland for Stanley Haruo Sasaki, who died May 5 at age 70. Mr. Sasaki was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Honolulu. He served in the Hawaii National Guard and moved to Lake Oswego in about 1970. He was a professional wrestler, traveling around the world, and later worked in automobile sales and for Safeway. In 1964, he married Marie Templis.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Darcy Spiering; son, Tony; stepdaughters, Denise Justice and Kim Jorgenson; stepsons, Dennis Oka, Daniel Oka and Robin Jorgenson; brother, Edwin; and 16 grandchildren. His stepson David Oka died in 1980.

Arrangements by Holman Hankins Bowker & Waud.

H. Frances Day

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in St. Edward Catholic Church in Keizer for H. Frances Day, who died April 15 at age 89. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Keizer Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Day was born Helen Frances Griffin on Dec. 19, 1911, in Tacoma. In 1936, she moved to Sisters, where she and her husband owned a cafe and drug store until 1958. She was a clerk for the Oregon Department of Commerce for about 13 years, retiring in 1973.

She moved to Portland in 1996. In 1936, she married Richard M. Day; he died in 1996.

Survivors include her son, Dennis R.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Sharon McCauley, died in November.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery.

Arthur L. Evens Jr.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in First United Methodist Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Arthur L. Evens Jr., who died April 14 at age 69. Mr. Evens Jr. was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Duluth, Minn., and was raised in Minnesota and Washington. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Afterward, he graduated from college in Ellensburg, Wash., and earned a master's degree in education from Lewis & Clark College.

He was a junior high school teacher in Vancouver for 32 years, retiring in 1991. In 1959, he married Mary E. "Betty" DeWalt.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Connie Elizabeth Byerly, Carol Louise Dattan and Christie Lee Belanger; brother, Myron; sisters, Doris Holmes, Jean Buck and Barbara Mock; and six grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Art Evens scholarship fund at the church. Arrangements by Hamilton-Mylan.

Ida Bergitte Folstad

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Central Lutheran Church in Portland for Ida Bergitte Folstad, who died April 15 at age 91. Ms. Folstad was born Nov. 11, 1909, in Melvin, Minn. She graduated from Valley City State Teachers College in North Dakota. She moved to Portland in 1942 and was an elementary teacher for Kennedy Grade School and then Eliot Elementary, retiring in 1974.

Survivors include her sister, Selma Turney; niece, Sandra Street; and nephew Sammy Knutson; and other nieces and nephews.

Interment in River View cemetery. Remembrances to the library fund of the Sons of Norway Grieg Lodge 15. Arrangements by Zeller.
