Paulina Moser
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in Wilhelm Funeral Chapel for Paulina Moser, who died May 30 at age 96. Mrs. Moser was born Paulina Schneider on Dec. 1, 1904, in Hillsview, S.D. A homemaker, she moved to Portland in 1996. In 1925, she married
John Moser; he died in 1971.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth; daughters, Irene High, Katherine Becker, Delores Davis, Arlene Rieger and Linda Walls; sisters, Maggie Kern and Barbara Heauser; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Interment in Pollock, S.D. Remembrances to Adventist Health Hospice.
Donald D. Nelson
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001, in Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home for Donald D. Nelson, who died May 15 at age 67. Mr. Nelson was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Klamath Falls, where he was raised and educated. He was a master carpenter. He worked for several years in construction and later owned his own business. He moved to Elkton in 1986 and to Forest Grove in 1990. He married
Shirley Dillon; they divorced. In 1977, he married
Pamela Gaines Strawn.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Keith and Ronald; daughters, Lori Villa and Kimberly Nelson; stepsons, Stan Strawn and James Strawn; brother, Richard; sisters, Betty Askins, Doris Phillips and Irene Hirschy; 15 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Clarissa LaVerne Nunes
Clarissa LaVerne Nunes died May 25, 2001, at age 93. Mrs. Nunes was born Clarissa LaVerne Castle on March 24, 1908, in Gould City, Wash. She was raised and educated in Washington. Following two years in nursing school, she worked at Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee, Wash. She moved to Beaverton in 1991. In 1930, she married
James D. Owens; they divorced in 1952. She married
Mannie Nunes in 1953; he died in 1973.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Wilson; brothers, Donald "Scotty" Castle and Marion Castle; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ninian M. 'Pete' Olson
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City for Ninian M. "Pete" Olson, who died May 26 at age 78. Mr. Olson was born April 24, 1923, in Northwood, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific, receiving a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. After the war, he moved to Portland, later moving to Wilsonville in 1974. He was a real estate developer who developed many large areas in Wilsonville and Clackamas County. He donated the property for the Wilsonville Senior Center. In 1971, he married
Marjorie Markheim.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Merrell Aiken; son, Merle D.; brothers, Keith and Donovan; sisters, Shirley Smith and Delores Odoms; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His daughter Melinda Olson died in 1989.

Merilda Louise Rice
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Clackamas Christian Center for Merilda Louise Rice, who died May 23 at age 81. Mrs. Rice was born Merilda Barstad on Sept. 22, 1919, in Devils Lake, N.D. She moved to the Portland area as a child and graduated from Washington High School. She was a homemaker and also worked in a day-care center. In 1938, she married
Cecil A. Rice; he died in 1998.
Survivors include her sons, Gerald, Marvin, Willard and Larry; daughters, Jean Hille and Connie Reed; brother, Maurice Barstad; sister, Doris Ebelt; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her son Harvey died in childhood.

Izola Kern Rife
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes for Izola Kern Rife, who died May 28 at age 78. Mrs. Rife was born Izola Wagner on Dec. 1, 1922, in Spokane and moved to Portland as a child. A graduate of Girls Polytechnic High School, she was a teller for US Bank and a homemaker. She was an active member of New Hope Community Church. In 1944, she married
Walter Kern; he died in 1993. She married
Donald Rife in 1994.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Jan Landis, Julie Feuerbacher, and Bobbie Baker; son, Jay Kern; sisters, Bonnie Boehlke and Penny Hendricks; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mildred Lucille Rising~ A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home for Mildred Lucille Rising, who died May 22 at age 93. Mrs. Rising was born Mildred Lucille Kyser on Oct. 21, 1907, in Portland. She was a homemaker who was also a secretary for a bank and the Paul M. Rising Agency, her husband's insurance agency. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Portland for all of her life. She married
Paul M. Rising; he died in 1976.
Survivors include several cousins.
Interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.
Helen Aileen Rondeau
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, at St. Peter Catholic Church in The Dalles for Helen Aileen Rondeau, who died May 27 at 92. Mrs. Rondeau was born Helen Aileen Cushing on Jan. 23, 1909, in The Dalles. She was an elementary school teacher in Eastern Oregon during the 1930s, moving to Portland in 1966. She married
Elzeard A. Rondeau in 1933; he later died.
She is survived by granddaughters Annette Martinez and Kimberly Ositis. Her son Leon died in 1978 and another son, William, died in 1986.

Lillian Jane Saunders
Lillian Jane Saunders died May 28, 2001, at age 87. Mrs. Saunders was born Lillian Jane White on Oct. 6, 1913, in Minneapolis, and moved to Portland as a teen-ager. She was a seamstress for Jantzen Knitting Mill for 24 years, and also worked in housekeeping at Physicians and Surgeons Hospital and the Multnomah County Library. Her husband, Albert Saunders, died in 1965.
Survivors include her son, Russell; daughter, Marrilee Storey; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William Ince Smith
William Ince Smith died May 23, 2001, at age 89. Mr. Smith was born May 28, 1911, in Seattle. He worked for Boeing during World War II and retired form the aircraft industry in 1966. He was active in the Boy Scouts and received the organization's Silver Beaver award. He married
June Jones in 1934; she died in 1998. He married
Jean Curry Bricker in 1998.
Survivors include wife; sons, Jay and Patrick; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

David Joe Smith
David Joe Smith died May 22, 2001, at age 63. Mr. Smith was born July 16, 1937, in Oregon City. He served in the U.S. Army and earned a degree in architecture from Portland State University. He worked in Seattle as a cab driver and for Boeing, and then he was self-employed in Portland, managing his own bookstore and driving a taxi. In 1991, he married
Betty Kwan.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Carolyn Montes; sons, Joe and Chuck; sister, Diane Mendoza; brothers, Alvin, Loyde and Ronald; and seven grandchildren.

Gordon Charles Stephen
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in St. Peter the Fisherman Lutheran Church in Lincoln City for Gordon Charles Stephen, who died May 26 at age 72. Mr. Stephen was born March 20, 1929, in Detroit, Mich.. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in forestry. He moved to Central Point in 1952 and later lived in Hillsboro. He worked for the timber section of the Oregon State Department of Revenue for 33 years until he retired in 1988. He then moved to Independence and later to Lincoln City. In 1952, he married
Lois M. Wilson.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Margaret Fouts and Kathy Bartholemy; son, Alan; and three grandchildren.

Mary Natsuko Takeuchi
Mary Natsuko Takeuchi died May 26, 2001, at age 78. Mrs. Takeuchi was born Mary Yabuki on June 9, 1922, in Houghton, Wash. During World War II, she was interned in Pinedale Assembly Center and Tule Lake Relocation Center. After the war, she lived in Weiser, Idaho, before moving to Portland in 1949. She and her husband owned the Halsey Food Center from 1949 until retiring in 1968. In 1946, she married
Hiro Takeuchi.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Jerry and Lynn; brothers, Dick Yabuki and Ken Yabuki; sisters, Rose Matsushita, Betty Yoshino and Shiz Nakamura; and two grandchildren.
