Lorayne Betty VanKleek
Lorayne Betty VanKleek died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Hillsboro. She was 76. Born Lorayne Osterhout on Oct. 12, 1924, in Declo, Idaho, she lived in the Portland area for most of her life. She married
Roy VanKleek in 1968. He died Feb. 1, 2000. Mrs. VanKleek was a retired licensed practical nurse who worked in several nursing homes.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Barbee; sister, Ila Hardy; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

R. Richard Walker
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton for R. Richard Walker, who died June 11 at age 83. Mr. Walker was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Sidney, Mont. He moved in 1929 to Portland. He graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Oregon. He owned and operated Walker-Cheney Associates, a ballroom dancing instruction business until the time of his death. In 1949, he married
Dorothy Zeller.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lynn Michaelson; son, R. John; and six grandchildren.

Opal Wangsnes
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Opal Wangsnes, who died June 13 at age 80. Mrs. Wangsnes was born Opal Stauffer on Feb. 11, 1921, in Plainview, Neb. She moved to Portland in 1941 and was a pipe welder in the shipyards during World War II. She later was a machine operator for Jantzen Knitting Mills for 18 years until retiring. In 1937, she married
Glen Snyder; he died in 1951. In the mid-1950s, she married
Irvin Wangsnes; he died in 1982.
Survivors include her sisters, Harriet Brauckmiller, Evelyn Brauckmiller and Dora Banducci; and brothers, Ervin Stauffer and Robert Stauffer.
Interment in Willamette National cemetery.
Richard Vern Sky
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in his grandmother's Brightwood home for Richard Vern Sky, who died June 4 at age 46. Mr. Sky was born Sept. 30, 1954, in Vancouver, Wash. He was a car detailer and then a painter in the Portland shipyards until about 1996, when he moved to Brightwood.
Survivors include his daughter, Hannah Burleson; mother, Sammie; stepfather, Jack Aubrey; brother, Danny; grandmother, Eleanor Rogers; and one grandchild.

Monroe Allen Sr.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes for Monroe Allen Sr., who died June 11 at age 73. Mr. Allen was born Aug. 29, 1927, in McLoud, Okla. He moved to Portland in 1959 and was a truck driver for various local companies. He married
Ruby Clay; she died. In 1978, he married
Juanita Jackson; she died in March.
Survivors include his daughters, Connie Glover, Ola Mae Sarpong, Debra Wharton, Wanda Howard, Adrinne Perkins, Casandra Jackson and Janice Allen; sons, Monroe Allen Jr., Ronald J. Allen, Donnell Allen, Willis Nary, Aaron Jackson, Perry Jackson and Burnell Jackson; sisters, Lucille Youngblood, Effie Rider and Westine Marshall; brother, S.J.; 45 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Interment in Lincoln Memorial.
Hubert J. Soli
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Luther Memorial Church in Portland for Hubert J. Soli, who died June 13 at age 79. Mr. Soli was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Langdon, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in Europe. He moved to Portland in 1955 and was a linoleum layer before becoming the owner of a Coast-to-Coast Hardware store, retiring in the mid-1980s. He was an active member of the church for more than 40 years. He was past vice president of the Sons of Norway. In 1949, he married
Gloria D. Jacobson.
Survivors include his wife; sons, James K. and Daryl J.; daughter, Denise F. Pratt; sisters, Marjorie Jacobson and Mary Bisenius; brother, Erling; and eight grandchildren.

George G. VanNatta
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens for George G. VanNatta, who died June 12 at age 94. Mr. VanNatta was born Jan. 19, 1907, in St. Helens. He graduated from St. Helens High School and Willamette University. He was a lawyer with his own practice in St. Helens for more than 50 years, retiring in the 1980s. In 1933, he married
Irene Breithaupt; she died in 1978.
Survivors include his sons, Kay C., Robert and Fred; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mildred Emaline Langston "Emy" Woznick died May 31, 2001, at age 72.
Mrs. Woznick was born Mildred Emaline Morse on Sept. 22, 1928, in Big Sandy, Mont. She moved to Portland in 1942 and graduated from Franklin High School. A homemaker, she lived in Estacada from 1957 to the mid-1970s. She returned to Portland in 1980 and moved to Moro in 1990. In 1945, she married
Eldon Langston; he died in 1983. In 2000, she married
Larry Woznick.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, A. Joan Parrett and Judy Henderson; sons, Earl Langston, Lee Langston and Carl Langston; mother, Mildred Hatt; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Wistar Morris Adair Jr.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Pleasant View cemetery in Sherwood for Wistar Morris Adair Jr., who died June 10 at age 75. Mr. Adair was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Portland and was raised in Sherwood. He graduated from Sherwood High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. After the war, he graduated from Oregon State College and then served in the Navy in the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 20 years in several positions, retiring as an area engineer for the Soil Conservation Service out of the Hillsboro office in 1982. In 1955, he married
Charlotte Meek.
Survivors include his wife; son, Jim; and daughters, Katherine D. Adair and Laurie Adair-Dirks.

Margaret Mary Heinen
Margaret Mary Heinen died May 26, 2001, at age 92. Mrs. Heinen was born Margaret Mary Ehrler on March 3, 1909, in Lena, Ill. In 1933, she graduated from nursing school in Illinois. A registered nurse, she moved in 1967 from Salinas, Calif., to Portland, where she worked at Holladay Park Hospital until retiring in the early 1970s. Her husband, Theodore Heinen, died in 1966.
There are no known family survivors.

Leah E. Evensizer
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in First Christian Church in Forest Grove for Leah E. Evensizer, who died June 7 at age 85. Mrs. Evensizer was born Leah E. Niemann on March 15, 1916, in Devils Lake,N.D. She lived in Spokane and Barlow before moving in 1951 to Forest Grove, where she and her husband owned the Royal Coachman Cafe and bus depot from 1959 until retiring in 1978. She moved to The Dalles in 1986. In 1936, she married
Clyde L. Evensizer; he died in 1984.
Survivors include her son, Milton; daughters, Marvel McCanna and Myrna LaStrapas; brothers, Clifford Niemann and John Niemann; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her son David died in 1964.

Bertha Elizabeth James
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home for Bertha Elizabeth James, who died June 7 at age 84. Mrs. James was born Bertha Elizabeth Hunziker on July 27, 1916, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She moved to Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School. She worked in the safe deposit section of First National Bank (later First Interstate Bank) until retiring. She married
Ted James; he died in 1974.
Survivors include her daughter, Jill Kearns; sister, Andra Henriksen; and two grandchildren.
Interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.
Arnold J. Manning
Arnold James Manning of Woodburn died May 28, 2001, at age 68. Mr. Manning was born June 10, 1932, in Rome, Ga. He moved from Eugene to the Portland area in 1983. He was a millworker for Bohemia Lumber Co. until his retirement in 1979. He was a professional boxing trainer from 1976 until his death, and had been a nationally ranked archer. In 1957, he married
Marvel Ivie.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Patty Jones and Jeana Philippens; sons, Tony, James and Steve, brother, Richard; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
