Kevin John Goodman
Kevin John Goodman, 23, of Medford, died Monday, June 23, 2003 in Medford. A private service will be held. Private interment will be at Central Point Masonic Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 7, 1979, in Ashland, to Randall and Nora (Azzaro) Goodman. He was raised in Medford and attended Washington Elementary School, middle school and high school in Medford.
He left high school after two years but later returned and finished the two remaining years' requirements in one year.
After high school, Mr. Goodman worked in construction, including work on the Rogue Valley Mall.
He enjoyed fishing, rafting, walks, long drives and bicycling.
Survivors include his parents, Randy and Nora Goodman, Medford; a brother, Nicholas, Medford; a sister, Kristen, Medford; and his grandparents, Al Goodman, Las Vegas, and Shirley Goodman, in California.

Ida Cora Burns
A memorial service for Ida Cora Burns will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church, Ashland. Mrs. Burns, 92, of Ashland died Thursday, May 22 at Ashland Community Hospital.
Mrs. Burns was born Nov. 22, 1910, to Sarah E. and Schuyler Gunter in Ashland. The family moved to Grants Pass, Ore. in 1922. Mrs. Burns graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1929 and Oregon State University in 1934. She began working that year as librarian at Ashland Junior High School and later accepted a teaching position at Ashland High School.
In June, 1937, she married Ashland resident Phillip Lee Burns and moved from the Rogue Valley for eight years before returning to Ashland in 1945.
In 1960 Mrs.. Burns returned to teaching at AMS and was Dean of Girls until retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Ashland Pinochle Club, and volunteered at the Ashland Community Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.
Mrs. Burns enjoyed travel, camping, gardening, arts and crafts, quilting, and crocheting.
Survivors include five sons, Richard Burns of Roseburg, Ore., Bruce Burns of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jerome Burns of Kearneysville, W. Va., Martin Burns of Ashland, and Philip Burns of Orting, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Clyde, and Merrill Gunter; and two sisters, Myra Bailey and Beatrice Cornilsen.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
Laura J. Ferguson
The memorial service for Laura J. Ferguson will be held at 7 p.m Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Rivergate Church, 188 Garfield St., Ashland. Rev. Ron Timen will officiate.
Laura J. Ferguson, 45, of Talent, Ore., died Sunday, June 15 at a Medford adult family care home from melanoma cancer.
Mrs. Ferguson was born June 21, 1957 in Myrtle Point to Robert and Karin (Train) Paul. She moved with her family to Klamath Falls in 1969.
In 1975, she graduated from Henley High School in Klamath Falls. For many years after high school she worked at Safeway. Later, she worked at Payless before working for (Harold) Icenhower's Tax & Financial Services in Medford. She was forced to retire because of illness.
She married Hally Ferguson on May 5, 1983 in Virginia City, Nev. She enjoyed her children, participating and photographing many of their activities, especially baseball and golf. Mrs. Ferguson was a competitive swimmer in her younger years and loved walking in later years.
Survivors include her daughter and son, Whitney and Brenton, both of Jacksonville; mother Karin Lanphear, Klamath Falls; father and stepmother, Robert and Jenene Paul, Gold Beach; sister Jodee and Bob Jackson, Henderson, Nev.; sister Susanne and Wally Williams, Clackamas; brother Brian and Jamie Paul, Keno; former husband Hally Ferguson, Jacksonville; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harry Lanphear, and grandparents Archie and Kathryn Train. and Cecil and Opal Paul.
Memorial contributions may be made to Phoenix-Talent High School Scholarship Fund, Phoenix-Talent District 4, 745 N. Rose Street, Phoenix, Ore. 97535, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Marley Jacob Pratt
Marley Jacob Pratt, 18, of Ashland, died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Ruth A. Lawrence
Ruth A. Lawrence, 99, of Ashland, died Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Mountain View Retirement Residence.
Mrs. Lawrence was born Sept. 5, 1903, in Oakley, Calif. to B.J. and Ethel Parsons. She lived her early childhood on a horse ranch in eastern Montana with her parents. On Nov. 16, 1941, she married Boyd Lawrence, who survives. They celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary in November, 2002.
Mrs. Lawrence worked as a key punch and sorter machines operator on International Business Machines for Southern Pacific Railroad and Greyhound Bus Lines in San Francisco during her early adult life, and at Matson Navigation during W.W.II.
She loved sewing, plants, and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Boyd Lawrence; two brothers, Kelly Parsons of Ashland, and Jim Parsons of Medford; a sister, Eileen Parsons Wright of Ashland; eight nieces and nephews, 11 great-nieces and nephews, and 9 great-great-nieces and nephews.
A brother and a sister preceded her in death.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Alice Lucille Holliday Schiesel
Alice Lucille Holliday Schiesel, 91, of Ashland, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at her home.
Family graveside services and interment were held at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens in Klamath Falls on Saturday, June 28, 2003.
Mrs. Schiesel was born Sept. 19, 1911 in San Diego, Calif., to Charles M. and Marion Mae (Thresher) Holliday. The family moved to Klamath County from Southern California when she was an infant. They were involved in the dairy business for many years. She was raised and educated in Klamath County and she married Leopold "Bud" Schiesel on July 14, 1928 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls.
Mr. Schiesel worked for Weyerhauser Timber Company for almost 20 years. When Weyerhauser went on strike in 1950 the couple moved to Ashland where Mr. Schiesel remained in the lumber business until he retired in 1973. He preceded Mrs. Schiesel in death in 1991 after 64 years of marriage. Mrs. Schiesel remained at the family home until her death.
She loved spending time with her family and she enjoyed being a homemaker and a wife.
Survivors include four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Schiesel was preceded in death by her husband, Leopold "Bud" Schiesel; and two daughters, Lucille Mae Kuhlwein and Barbara Lee Keffer.
