Larisa M. Smirnova
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Larisa M. Smirnova, who died June 2 at age 48. Mrs. Smirnova was born Larisa M. Novikova on March 27, 1953, in Krasnodar, Russia. She was an attorney in civil law in Russia until immigrating to Portland in 1993. She was then a counselor for CODA, a drug rehabilitation center. In 1973, she married
Vitaliy Smirnov.
Survivors include her husband; son, Michael; daughter, Marina Nozdrin; and two grandchildren.
Interment in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
Alice Marie Weitzel
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes for Alice Marie Weitzel, who died June 1 at age 85.
Mrs. Weitzel was born Alice Marie Nolde on Sept. 14, 1915, in Lincoln, Neb. She was a homemaker who moved to Portland from Wyoming in 1955. In 1931, she married
Carl Weitzel; he died in 1971.
Survivors include her sons, Harold J. and Marven C.; daughters, Rosemary Stephenson, Irene Pachkofsky, Barbara Schwartzkopf and Joy Casey; 21 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Carl Jennings Whitley
Carl Jennings Whitley died May 4, 2001, at age 89. Mr. Whitley was born April 9, 1912, in Joplin, Mo. He was a sheet-metal worker for Boeing in Wichita, Kan., until retiring. He moved to Portland in 1990. In 1940, he married
Neva M. McMullin; she died in 1999.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Drew; sisters, Dot Ford, Gean Lemmons and Lois Tabler; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Conrad A. Wilcke
A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Conrad A. Wilcke, who died June 1 at age 69. Mr. Wilcke was born May 14, 1932, in Portland. He attended several high schools in the Portland area and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in various construction trades and later was a steamfitter, working out of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 290, until he retired in 1994. In 1953, he married
Shirley McMillan; she died in 1995.
Survivors include his sons, Ronald and Rodrick; and four grandchildren.

Robert Milton Armstrong
A service with full military honors will be at noon Monday, June 4, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Robert Milton Armstrong, who died May 30 at age 69. Mr. Armstrong was born April 29, 1932, in Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated A-Z Vacuums. In 1961, he married
Dorothy Day.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Ronald M. and David S.; daughter, Lori A. Lucente; sister, Patricia M. Green; brother, Theodore R.; and four grandchildren.

Raymond B. Chartrey
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove for Raymond B. Chartrey, who died May 30 at age 84. Mr. Chartrey was born April 7, 1917, in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. He moved to Gales Creek as a child and graduated from Forest Grove High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe during World War II. He was an aircraft inspector for the Naval Air Station in Alameda, Calif., for 30 years until retiring in 1973. He also sold real estate in California. He returned to Forest Grove in 1991. In 1946, he married
Dorothy Stokes.
Survivors include his wife; sisters, Louise Hoffman and Virginia Scott; and brother, Francis.

Harvey Taylor Cloe
A memorial gathering will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in the community room of the Walnut Park Apartments in Portland for Harvey Taylor Cloe, who died May 28 at age 64. Mr. Cloe was born Oct. 20, 1936, in Portland. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a house painter and remodeler in the Portland area until retiring in 1999. In 1974, he married
Barbara Tucker; she died in 1985.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa A.; sisters, Alice Cox and Carol Emanuel; and brother, Delbert.

Paul T. Deaton
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash., for Paul T. Deaton, who died May 31 at age 91. Mr. Deaton was born Sept. 28, 1909, in Greenville, Mo. He moved to Portland as a child and graduated from Jefferson High School. He was a railway messenger for REA Express for 37 years until retiring in 1974. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Portland. He moved to Vancouver in 1979. In 1933, he married
Ruth Lucia; she died in 1995.
Survivors include his daughter, Lucia Halverson; son, Lawrence; sister, Dolly Palmer; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Evine Junette Ellison
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Grace Lutheran Church in Molalla for Evine Junette Ellison, who died June 1 at age 95. Mrs. Ellison was born Evine Junette Dolalie on Jan. 19, 1906, in Rushford, Minn. She moved to Portland in the 1930s. She was a homemaker and moved to Molalla in 1943. In 1937, she married
Walter Ellison; he died in 1970.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila McAllister; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alfred K. Foley
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Forest Grove for Alfred K. "Al" Foley, who died May 31 at age 88. Mr. Foley was born June 8, 1912, in Tacoma, where he was raised. He was a logger and timber faller for Diamond Lumber Co. in the Tillamook Burn area until 1961, when he moved to Alaska and worked in the timber industry there until his retirement in 1982. He then lived in Castle Rock, Wash., and later Forest Grove. In 1945, he married
Grace I. Underdahl; she died in 1988.
Survivors include his daughters, Andrea Soto, Merrill "Mem" Herrington and Julie Garcia; son, Alfred F.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

H. Vivian 'Happy' Ford
H. Vivian "Happy" Ford died May 24, 2001, at age 89. Mrs. Ford was born H. Vivian Hewitson on Nov. 1, 1911, in Seattle. She moved to Portland in 1935, and was a homemaker. During World War II, she helped with American Red Cross blood drives and received awards for her work. In 1938, she married
Jack Ford; he died in 1989.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Blomberg; and sisters, Marion McLean and Peggy Clary.

Hazel Patricia Hamson
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Stehn's Foster Road Funeral Home for Hazel Patricia Hamson, who died May 31 at age 86. Mrs. Hamson was born Hazel Patricia Holmes on Oct. 21, 1914, in Portland. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She owned and trained racing horses along the West Coast and later owned farms in the Portland and Aurora areas. She was also a waitress for 25 years and lived in Portland for about the last 20 years. She married
Joe Day; he died serving in World War II. In 1946, she married
Lester B. Hamson; he died in 2000.
Survivors include her brothers, Harold Holmes, Ralph Holmes, Charles Holmes and Ted Holmes; and sister, Doris Carlo.

Elizabeth Dorothy Hays
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens for Elizabeth Dorothy Hays, who died May 31 at age 96. Mrs. Hays was born Elizabeth Dorothy Schmeer on Jan. 25, 1905, in Norka, Russia. She immigrated to Portland at age 2. She was a specialty seamstress for several companies and sewed parachutes during World War II. She moved to Scappoose in 1949. In 1926, she married
Clyde Hays; he died in 1991.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline Stoner; brother, William Schmeer; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
