William 'Butch' Hocken

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Astoria Christian Church for William "Butch" Hocken, who died Nov. 20 at age 51. Mr. Hocken was born July 16, 1949, in Portland and was raised in Newport. He was a commercial fisherman out of Astoria and Newport until retiring in 1996 and moving to Salem. In 1967, he married Gina Gropp.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Dianna Heacock; son, Jeffrey; mother, Jean; and sisters, Connie Killion and Victoria Grusing.

Disposition was by cremation. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

Richard Donald Hoglund

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in New Hope Community Church for Richard Donald Hoglund, who died Nov. 24 of a heart attack at age 65. Mr. Hoglund was born May 31, 1935, in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. In 1967, he moved to Tacoma and in 1974 to Molalla. He was a salesman for Acacia Advertising for about eight years before retiring in 1997. He was a member of the church. In 1975, he married "Jo" Krieg.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Robert and Jack; stepson, Michael A. Gay; daughter, Sally Mix; stepdaughters, Kitty Williams and Valerie Nack; mother, Beulah; sister, Yvonne Gardner; and nine grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Northwest Bible Training Center, 2724 N. Ainsworth, Portland, OR 97217. Arrangements are by Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors.

Agnes Henrietta Johnson

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Central Lutheran Church for Agnes Henrietta Johnson, who died Nov. 26 at age 96. Mrs. Johnson was born May 13, 1904, in Twin Valley, Minn. Her maiden name was Rude. She moved in 1927 to Portland and was a homemaker and a 40-year member of the church. She moved in September to The Dalles. In 1933, she married David Johnson; he died in 1972.

Survivors include her sister, Ella Nelson; and nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Spencer, Libby & Powell in The Dalles.

Annabelle M. Justice

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Willamette National cemetery for Annabelle M. Justice, who died Nov. 18 of congestive heart failure at age 75. Mrs. Justice was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Mount Vernon, S.D. Her maiden name was Ott. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps. She moved in 1944 to Estacada and in 1965 to Portland, where she was a secretary for the U.S. Forest Service for 15 years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include her son, Scott; and five grandchildren. Her sons Tom Stroeder and Kevin Justice died in 1998.

The family suggests remembrances to Mt. Hood Hospice. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.

Louise A. Lyons

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in the Scappoose home of Jack Johnson for Louise A. Lyons, who died Nov. 27 at age 93. Mrs. Lyons was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Ironwood, Mich., and grew up in Kalispell, Mont. Her maiden name was Schwarberg. She moved to Portland in 1927. She was a machine operator for Tektronix for 15 years, retiring in 1976. She moved to St. Helens four years ago.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy A. Wiglesworth and Billie L. Gefre; sons, Jack Johnson and George "Stuart" Johnson; sister, Mariellen Nielson; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 8196 SW Hall Blvd., Suite 103, Beaverton, OR 97008. Arrangements are by Columbia Funeral Home.

Irvin Fred McClain Sr.

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Bridal Veil Community Church for Irvin Fred McClain Sr., who died Nov. 27 of a stroke at age 63. Mr. McClain was born June 15, 1937, in Tillamook. He graduated from Sandy High School. He worked in body shops and wrecking yards in Sandy until moving in 1973 to Corbett, and then was a mechanic in the research and development department of Hyster, until retiring in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for nine years. In 1965, he married Lora Ann Barone.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Colin and Irvin F. Jr.; daughters, Elizabeth and Melissa; brothers, Bill and Jerry; and three grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the National Rifle Association. Arrangements are by Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel.

Trish Catherine McManus

A memorial Mass will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Holy Family Catholic Church for Trish Catherine McManus, who died Oct. 16 of lung disease at age 65. Ms. McManus was born April 23, 1935, in Seattle. She was a registered nurse for several medical centers and doctors' offices before her retirement and was a member of the church.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Cook; and friend, Connie Bilyeu.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Gable & Parkrose Funeral Chapel.

Theodore H. Merrill

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sandy for Theodore H. Merrill, who died Nov. 27 at age 81. Mr. Merrill was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Shreveport, La., and was reared in Hillsboro, N.D. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man and during World War II served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was a civil engineer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 30 years, first with the Soil Conservation Service and then the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 1975. He lived in White Salmon, Wash., from 1960 until moving in 1985 to Sandy, where he was a member of the church. In 1944, he married Katherine Jung.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Terry H. and James L.; daughter, Jeri K. Rector; and six grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to his church's building fund. Arrangements are by Sandy Funeral Home.

Robert Andrew Nelson

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Beaverton Foursquare Church for Robert Andrew "Bobby" Nelson, who died Nov. 25 at age 60. Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Astoria. He owned several commercial fishing vessels and then was a tugboat captain for about 25 years, the past several years as an employee of Portland-based Shaver Transportation. He lived in Brush Prairie, Wash., for the past 10 years. In 1974, he married Charlene Heikka.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Nelise Nelson, Nelea Nelson, Amy Foster and Cindy Nelson; son, Dean; and four grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary.

Harvey Lee Shelton

A service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Willamette National cemetery for Harvey Lee Shelton, who died Nov. 15 of a heart attack at age 59. Mr. Shelton was born Nov. 1, 1941, in Webb City, Mo., and was raised in Clackamas. He graduated from Clackamas High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army. He lived in several locations in Oregon and Washington before moving to Bremerton, Wash., about 10 years ago. He was a clerk for Rite Aid for the past 10 years.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Mary; sister, Denise Thomas; and brother, Kenneth S.

The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Peake Memorial Chapel.

Ruth Mabel Stewart

A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Willamette Memorial Park in Albany for Ruth Mabel Stewart, who died Nov. 26 at age 95. Mrs. Stewart was born July 17, 1905, in Harper, Kan., and moved to Albany as a child. Her maiden name was Weaver. She lived in Salem and Eureka, Calif., before moving in 1964 to Roseburg, where she was a licensed practical nurse for the Rose Haven Nursing Center until retiring at age 70. She then lived in Beaverton and was a member of Village Baptist Church. In 1927, she married Earl C. Stewart; he died in 1966.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Jo Heaney and June Attaway; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to Providence St. Vincent Hospice. Arrangements are by Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel.

Linda L. Vandehey

A memorial gathering will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in the Forest Hills Mobile Estates in Cornelius for Linda L. Vandehey, who died Nov. 13, 2000, of cancer at age 56. Mrs. Vandehey was born Dec. 3, 1943, in Cottage Grove and moved to Forest Grove as a child. Her maiden name was Long. A graduate of Forest Grove High School, she worked for Western States Fire Apparatus, Bank Printing and for the past 15 years as a billing clerk for the Tuality hospitals in Hillsboro and Forest Grove.

Survivors include her sons, Michael D. Vanaken, Jeffery S. Vanaken and Kenneth D. "Butch" Vandehey; mother, June Bejaul; brothers, Kenneth Long, Lee D. Long and Charlie Long; and three grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Portland chapter of the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Westside Cremation Service.

Edwin I. Watson

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Young's Funeral Home in Tigard for Edwin I. Watson, who died Nov. 23 at age 83. Mr. Watson was born Dec. 17, 1916, in San Francisco. He moved to Portland as a child. During his senior year at Parkrose High School, he was the state champion in high school golf. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific. In 1958, he coached the Rose City Little League team to the World Series. He was self-employed as a hardwood-floor contractor and worked for Builterials as a salesman for about 10 years, retiring in 1990. In 1946, he married Rose Dini; she died in the late 1980s.

Survivors include his sons, Edwin R. and Mitchell L.; sister, Marie Strickler; brothers, Dale and Robert; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Madison High School Booster Club.
