Robert M. McGary
Robert M. McGary died Nov. 6, 2000, of colon cancer at age 69. A private memorial gathering was held. Mr. McGary was born May 5, 1931, in Portland. He graduated from Lincoln High School and Stanford University. After serving two years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he received a second bachelor's degree from Oregon State University. He was a field engineer and estimator for S.S. Mullen. In 1968, he joined Willamette-Western, (Riedel International), where he worked for 24 years and became a chief estimator and vice president of engineering and estimating. Then, he was a senior estimator for Guy F. Atkinson for eight years until illness forced his retirement in September. He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Arch Cape and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vancouver, Wash., where he lived for the past six years. He married
Marilyn Southard in 1953.
Survivors include his wife; son, Michael E.; daughter, Erin McGary-Hamilton; mother, Helen; sister, Helen L. Cornelius; and one grandchild.
Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Arch Cape. Arrangements are by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in the conference room at Springridge Town Homes in Wilsonville for Opal Parker Jefferson Nielsen, who died Nov. 12 of cancer at age 90.
Mrs. Nielsen was born Oct. 11, 1910, in Salinas, Calif. Her maiden name was Parker. She graduated from San Jose Teachers College and taught elementary school in Castroville for seven years. She became a homemaker and returned to Salinas in 1951. In 1992, she moved to Wilsonville. In 1937, she married
Lewis Nielsen; he died in 1991.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Nielsen Kretzmeier; son, Richard J.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to a hospice of choice. Arrangements are by Riverview Abbey Funeral Home.
MaryJo Olsen
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Wilsonville for MaryJo Olsen, who died Nov. 12 of leukemia at age 84. Mrs. Olsen was born May 9, 1916, in Nixon, Texas. Her maiden name was Palm. She was raised in Texas and moved to Tigard in 1958. She was the owner and administrator of Phagans' Beauty Schools NW, which has three Portland locations, for about 20 years until her death. She was a member of the church. In 1982, she married
John Olsen.
Survivors include her husband; and one grandchild.
Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Memorial Garden in Wilsonville. The family suggests remembrances to the Royal Rosarian Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 6915, Portland, OR 97228. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial.
Joe K. Parrish
A service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in Willamette National cemetery for Joe K. Parrish, who died Nov. 14 of bone cancer at age 73. Mr. Parrish was born April 5, 1927, in Fort Meade, Fla. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. Later, he served in the Navy during the Korean War. In the mid-50s, he moved to Texas and worked for the U.S. border patrol for one year before returning to Portland. He was a deputy sheriff for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office for 28 years until retiring in 1985. In 1950, he married
Laurel Marie Baldwin.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Keith W. and Michael G.; daughter, Janet M. Mar; brother, Wesley; and two grandchildren.

Jean Alice Thompson
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Hillsdale Community Church for Jean Alice Thompson, who died Nov. 7 at age 82. Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 27, 1918, in St. Louis. Her maiden name was Roehr. She moved to Portland in 1922 and graduated from Commerce High School. A homemaker, she was a member of the church. In 1940, she married
Russell C. Thompson; he died in 1991.
Survivors include her daughter, Estelle Keating; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her son Russell C. died in 1986.

William Dale Walker
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home for William Dale Walker, who died Nov. 15 at age 83. Mr. Walker was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Stromsburg, Neb. He was raised in Nebraska and moved to Portland about 1940. He was a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years until his retirement in 1983. He was past master of Waluga Masonic Lodge No. 181 and past patron of Waluga Chapter No. 146 in the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1939, he married
Florence E. "Betty" Keefer; she died in 1986.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen Cavender and Deanna McDowell; brother, Rex E. Walker; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His daughter Glenda Walker died in 1951.
Interment will be in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to Shriners Hospital for Children. Arrangements are by Riverview Abbey Funeral Home.
Tillman C. Wasson
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in Young's Funeral Home for Tillman C. Wasson, who died Nov. 8 at age 96. Mr. Wasson was born Sept. 24, 1904, in Cowles, Neb. He was raised in Nebraska and moved in 1938 to Portland where he owned a grocery store for about three years. In 1942, he moved to Modesto, Calif., and owned a grocery store there. He returned to Portland in 1960 and owned a mobile home park with a grocery store until his retirement. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. In 1927, he married
Irene Thompson; she died in 1996.
Survivors include his sons, James and Robert; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Crescent Grove cemetery.
Josephine Marie Bell
Josephine Marie Bell died Nov. 15, 2000, at age 79. A service was held. Mrs. Bell was born March 10, 1921, in Ennis, Texas. Her maiden name was Reid. She moved to Portland about 1948. A homemaker, she was also an office assistant for the Portland Development Commission for about 10 years before retiring in 1980. She a member of Walker Temple Church of God in Christ. In 1945, she married
George T. Bell; he died in February.
Survivors include her daughters, Eyvonne Harris, Brenda Warren, Sandra Johnson and Joyce E. White; sons, Willie V. and William; 13 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Rose City cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were by Rose City Funeral Home.
John Francis Berry
John Francis "Jack" Berry died Nov. 11, 2000, of a heart attack at age 73. A service will be held Dec. 29 in Bedford, Ohio. Mr. Berry was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Cleveland and was raised in Bedford. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Navy. He designed machines for American Packaging and then for Lucerne, both in Cleveland, before retiring in 1997. He moved to Hillsboro in 1999. In 1948, he married
Mary Elaine Yokel; they later divorced. In 1978, he married
Margaret Dabairri; she died in 1997.
Survivors include his sons, John, Robert and Dan; daughters, Kathleen Allen, Linda Harry and Eileen Downs-Berry; brothers, Robert, Gerald and Richard; sisters, Frances Lilly, Mary De Pompeii, Margaret Kainec and Rita Berry; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Donelson, Sewell & Mathews Mortuary.
Florence Boland
A service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Willamette National cemetery for Florence Boland, who died Nov. 26 at age 87. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. in Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Boland was born May 12, 1913, in Calgary, Alberta, and had lived in Portland since she was 6 years old. Her maiden name was Gerlitz. She attended Jefferson High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the church. She married
James B. Boland in 1941.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Eileen Borter; sons, H. Jim, Donald P., Brian T. and Arthur J.; brother, Edward Gerlitz; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John R. Boomer
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville for John R. Boomer, who died Nov. 21 of cancer at age 55. Mr. Boomer was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Salem. He attended Portland State University and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War. From 1969 until 1973, he was a California Highway Patrol officer out of Glendale, Calif. He was a policeman in Tigard for seven years, a senior claims adjuster for Wausau Insurance from 1979 to 1992, and then a licensed private investigator for the past eight years. He moved to Wilsonville in 1994. In 1983, he married
Antoinette "Toni" Pascuzzi.
Survivors include his wife; son, John H.; daughter, Jennifer; mother, Virginia; sister, Suzanne Lewis; and four grandchildren.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital.
Russell LeRoy Cameron
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Oregon City Nazarene Church for Russell LeRoy Cameron, who died Nov. 27 apparently of a heart attack at age 73. Mr. Cameron was born June 10, 1927, in West Linn and had lived in Gladstone since 1942. He graduated from Oregon City High School in 1945, then was in the merchant marine before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He owned Cameron's Appliance from 1952 until retiring in 1995. In 1951, he married
Marlene L. Berndt.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Rod and Jeff; brothers, Gerald, Richard and Robert; sister, Darlene Couch; and five grandchildren.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. Arrangements are by Hillside Chapel.
Jeanne Edwards DeNeffe
A service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery mausoleum for Jeanne Edwards DeNeffe, who died Nov. 25 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at age 80. A concelebrated funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Mrs. DeNeffe was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Castle Rock, Wash., and moved to Portland as a child. Her maiden name was Edwards. She graduated from Washington High School and attended Morrison Business College and Marylhurst College. A homemaker, she volunteered for the Portland Art Museum, Providence Child Center, the Seminary Tea Committee and Jesuit High School. For the past three years, she had a home-based floral-design business. She was a member of St. Elizabeth and St. Thomas More Catholic churches. In 1946, she married
Fredrick Mason DeNeffe Jr.; he died in 1999.
Survivors include her sons, Rick, Michael and Todd; daughter, Joan; and four grandchildren.
