Harold L. Kitching
A funeral will be at noon Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Estacada Funeral Chapel for Harold L. Kitching, who died April 6 at age 90. Mr. Kitching was born May 14, 1910, in Currinsville. He moved to Estacada in 1929 and worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression. He was a machine operator for Portland General Electric in the 1940s and a grass seed and turkey farmer until retiring in the 1980s. He moved to La Pine in 2001. In 1931, he married
Blanche E. Armstrong; she died in 1982. He married
Mildred McKibben in 1982; she died in 1999.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly J. Malmberg; son, Roger D.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Interment in Philip E. Linn cemetery within Estacada International Order of Odd Fellows cemetery. Remembrances to the Estacada Senior Center.
Cecilea Hays Matthieu
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Wichita Avenue Evangelical Church in Milwaukie for Cecilea Hays Matthieu, who died April 4 at age 93. Mrs. Matthieu was born Cecilea Hays Bolander on Feb. 5, 1908, in Munday, Texas. She moved to Oak Grove in 1914 and graduated from Milwaukie High School and the University of Oregon Medical School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at several hospitals and then was a private duty nurse until retiring in the early 1960s. In 1933, she married
Alton "Jim" Matthieu; he died in 1982.
Survivors include her son, Gerald E.; daughter, Kathleen L. Olson; sister, Louise Rideout; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Grace Muehlhauser
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Grace Muehlhauser, who died April 4 at age 83. Mrs. Muehlhauser was born Grace Parker on Feb. 6, 1918, in Astoria. She moved to Portland in 1942 and was a welder in the Portland shipyards during World War II. Later, she worked in a cannery, processed poultry and sold real estate for Powers Realty. She retired in 1975 and moved to Ocean Park, Wash. In 1935, she married
Michael Joseph Muehlhauser; he died in 1993.
Survivors include her sons, Terry and Larry; brother, Warren Parker; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pearl Louise Peck

George Edward Pickett
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in the Gateway Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for George Edward Pickett, who died April 6 at age 86. Mr. Pickett was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Ketchum, Alberta. He moved in 1939 to Portland. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a firefighter for the Portland Fire Bureau for 25 years and was captain of District 10 for 17 years, retiring in 1967. He was training officer for the Oregon Fire Services Competitive for seven years in the 1960s. In 1939, he married
LaVon West.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Diane Holcom, Carol Rich and Susan Jones; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Oda Addison Ross
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, in Hustad Funeral Home for Oda Addison Ross, who died April 6 at age 88. Mr. Ross was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Marysville, Ky., and was raised in Portland. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was a warehouseman for J.K. Gill for 25 years, retiring in 1978. In 1952, he married
Gloria Deutscher; she died in 1993.
Survivors include his daughters, Delores Brown, Sharon Miller and Roberta Hart; son, Peter A.; brother, Norbet; sisters, Laura Lien and Betty Ewing; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Leo P. Senesac
A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Portland for Leo P. Senesac, who died of acute transplant rejection April 5 at age 63. He had a lung transplant five months ago. Mr. Senesac was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Stowe, Vt. He served in the U.S. Navy. He moved in 1976 from Florida to Portland and owned Sen Gems Jewelers from 1984 until retiring in 1999. In 1961, he married
Judith Hoaglin.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Diana Hathaway, Cynthia Kienzle and Deborah Senesac; son, Daniel; brothers, Jean Paul, Joseph G., Robert R. and Maurice F.; sisters, Lucette, Bernadette and Michelle; and five grandchildren.

Gerald K. Steele
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Vancouver, Wash., for Gerald K. Steele, who died April 5 at age 74. Mr. Steele was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Burwell, Neb. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Philippines. He moved to Vancouver in about 1969 and worked in the pot room of Alcoa for 20 years, retiring in 1986. In 1968, he married
Charlene Christiansen.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Geri Anne Steele-Olson, Bobbi Sturdevant and Karen Steele; son, Harvey; stepdaughters, Kathleen Harm, Leslie Gibbs and Andrea Alvard; stepson, Ralph Alvard; brother, Larry; sisters, Belva Kuhl, Lela Hall and Carolyn Steele; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His son John died in infancy.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel for Jordan David Douglas Sumner, who died April 5 of bone marrow disorder at age 10.
Jordan was born Jan. 8, 1991, in Salem. He lived most of his life in Monmouth, where he was a fourth-grade student at Monmouth Elementary School. He was at Doernbecher Children's Hospital for the past six months.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Jeffrey and Cynthia; mother and stepfather, Micki and Chris McDowell; brothers, Joshua Sumner and Jon Nichols; sisters, Cassandra Sumner, Amber Sumner, Angela Sanchez and Shelby Nichols; and grandparents, Judy Mejia, Charlene and Bill Hins, Judy and Bill Wold, Douglas Sutherland, and Mike and Donna McDowell.
Interment in Pike Pioneer cemetery in Yamhill.
Neal R. Thompson
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Canby Funeral Chapel for Neal R. Thompson, who died March 29 at age 87. Mr. Thompson was born March 31, 1913, in Bellingham, Wash. He moved to Canby in the late 1920s and graduated from Canby High School. He was a farmer until retiring in the early 1970s, then later was a supervisor of the Clackamas County litter patrol for 10 years. He also served in the Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation Service District. In 1937, he married
Ruth C. France; she died in 1955. He married
Rovilla Hokamp in 1955; she died in 2000.
Survivors include his daughter, Jeanne Kraus; stepdaughter, Margaret Pingel; sons, George W. and Ralph L.; stepson, Barney Hokamp; brothers, Allen and Kenneth; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. His stepson Edward Hokamp died in 1961.

Mary Vertrees
Mary Vertrees died March 28, 2001, at age 87. Mrs. Vertrees was born Mary Goodenough on May 22, 1913, in McCammon, Idaho. She was raised in Idaho and Montana and moved to the Portland area in 1943. She worked as a beautician for more than 50 years, owning several beauty shops around Portland from the mid-1940s to 1981. She married
John Kilminster in 1934; they divorced in 1947. Later marriages were to Dick Grant, who died in 1961, and E.J. Vertrees, who died in 1977.
Survivors include her companion, Bill Tilley; son, Kenneth A. Kilminster; sister, Della Ryder; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Dick F. Wagner
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes for Dick F. Wagner, who died April 8 at age 88. Mr. Wagner was born March 9, 1913, in Portland. He graduated from Milwaukie High School and Oregon State College. He was a mechanical engineer for Oregon Insurance Rating Bureau for 27 years, retiring in 1977. In 1936, he married
Elva Daniel; she died in 1994.
Survivors include his sons, James, Steve and Kelly; sister, Caroline Perrine; and four grandchildren.

Frank Tilbury Allen
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Rose City Funeral Home for Frank Tilbury Allen, who died April 8 at age 87. Mr. Allen was born June 8, 1913, in Pittsburgh. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and earned a master's degree from the University of Alabama. He was a geophysicist and worked for Gulf Oil more than 50 years, retiring in 1982, and was then a private consultant. He lived throughout the world before moving to Portland from Houston in 1994. In 1940, he married
Mary Helen Bartlett; she died in 1995.
Survivors include his daughters, Trudy Allen, Susie Allen and Mardi Hanou; and two grandchildren.
