George Edward Lane Wirkkala
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg for George Edward Lane Wirkkala, who died Feb. 24 of cancer at age 74.
Mr. Wirkkala was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Deming, Wash. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He lived in Carson, Wash., from the 1960s until about 1992, when he moved to Hillsboro. He was a diesel mechanic for several companies, including Wood Tractor in Portland, retiring from the Skamania County Road Department in 1988. In 1998, he moved to Newberg. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Stevenson, Wash. In 1950, he married
Dorothy Rinell; she died in 1991.
Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl Spencer, Debra Wirkkala and Wendy Harvath; son, Jeff; brothers, Walter, Ernest and Edwin; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Lutheran Family Service of Yamhill County. Arrangements are by Young's Funeral Home.
Robert Donald Allison
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Milwaukie First Baptist Church for Robert Donald "Don" Allison, who died April 10 at age 76. Mr. Allison was born June 7, 1924, in Portland. He graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II in the Pacific. He worked for Farmers Insurance for 42 years, retiring as office services manager in 1984. In 1949, he married
Lola Arlene Culp.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Nancy K. Allison and Caren L. Miller; sons, Michael L. and James R.; and five grandchildren.

Rowena H. Berry
Rowena H. Berry died March 13, 2001, at age 92. Mrs. Berry was born Rowena Hogue on Dec. 12, 1908, in Dallas, Texas. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was a psychiatric technician at the Napa State Hospital in Napa, Calif., retiring in 1973. She moved to Tigard in 1992.
Survivors include her daughter, Julian K. Carter; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Victor Joseph Bloch
Victor Joseph Bloch died April 5, 2001, at age 90. Mr. Bloch was born Nov. 12, 1910, in Portland. He graduated from Lincoln High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater. He was the co-owner of Dan Marx Jewelers in Portland until the 1940s, and later the co-owner, with his wife, of Bloch's Department Store in Chino, Calif., until retiring in 1974. He moved to Chino in 1951 and returned to Portland last year. In 1948, he married
Gabrella Cox; she died in 1999.
Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy Blewett Griffin; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His daughter, Nova Blewett Shank, died in 1969.

Diane Carole Bothwell
Diane Carole Bothwell died April 4, 2001, at age 64. Mrs. Bothwell was born Diane Jensen on January 8, 1937, in Spanaway, Wash. She came to Portland in the 1940s. She was a cashier for the Radio Cab Company from 1985 until 1997. She married
Ted Morriss in 1952 ; they divorced in 1954. She married
Arvel Meadows Jr. in 1955; they divorced in 1967. She married
Harold E. Bothwell in 1975; he died in 1979.
Survivors include her sons, John Morriss, John Meadows, Michael Meadows and Richard Meadows; daughter, Susan Aguirre; brothers, Jim Chase, John Chase and Jerry Chase; sisters, Janice Bevington and Margaret Kelter; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Orlando Baltazar Chavez Sr.
Orlando Baltazar Chavez Sr. died April 2, 2001, at age 68. Mr. Chavez was born Oct. 28, 1932, in El Paso, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army and was service manager for Border Machinery in El Paso for more than 35 years before retiring in 1990. He moved to Lake Oswego in 1992. In 1952, he married
Grace Dominguez.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Cynthia; sons, Orlando Jr., Richard and Andrew; sisters, Alacia Rey, Letty Chavez and Barbara Cruz; brothers, Dennis and Norman; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His son Robert G. died in 1992.

Ollie Rhea Chin
Ollie Rhea Chin died April 5, 2001, at age 79. Mrs. Chin was born Ollie Rhea Coble on Aug. 17, 1921, in Ponca City, Okla., and moved to the Portland area as a young child. She was an X-ray technician at the Hazelwood Medical Center. In 1962, she married
William Chin.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Sharon Webb; and son, Jerre Webb.

Alma Devin Clouston
Alma Devin Clouston died April 7, 2001, at age 99. Mrs. Clouston was born Alma Devin on Nov. 25, 1901 in Heppner. She worked as a telephone operator until 1926 and then was a homemaker. She lived Portland from 1952 to 1997. In 1926, she married
John G. Clouston; he died in 1986.
Survivors include her daughters, Louise Vogler and Jean Cahill; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Gordon Lee Dixon
Gordon Lee Dixon died April 6, 2001, at age 91. Mr. Dixon was born Jan. 28, 1910, in Grove, Okla. After working as a recreation department maintenance supervisor in California, he moved to Florida, then to Clackamas County last year. In 1940, he married
Magdalene Yeager; she died in 1999.
Survivors include his daughter, Karin Butler; son, Donald Dixon; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret N. Gardner~ A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, in Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove for Margaret N. Gardner, who died April 11 at age 92. Mrs. Gardner was born Margaret N. Jensen on Aug. 6, 1908, in Columbus, Neb. She was a saleswoman and unit manager for Stanley Home Products for 51 years until her retirement. She lived in Rochester, Wash.; Garibaldi; Barview; Raymond, Wash.; Eatonville, Wash.; and Graham, Wash.; before moving to Forest Grove in 1996. In 1927, she married
Charles Marion Gardner; he died in 1965.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth L.; daughter, Carole A. Berneau; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her son Robert C. Gardner, died in the early 1990s. Her son James A. Gardner died in July.

Betty Jane Goodall
Betty Jane Goodall died April 4, 2001 at age 82. Mrs. Goodall was born Elizabeth Jane Corgan on June 21, 1918, in Portland. She attended Madeleine and Laurelhurst primary schools, and graduated from Grant High School. She attended Marylhurst College and Oregon State University. She worked for Meier & Frank, and as a secretary at the Kaiser shipyards. She married
Loyd Goodall; he died in 1993.
Survivors include her brothers, Charles F. Corgan and Robert D. Corgan.

Irene Janet Graham
Irene Janet Graham died April 4, 2001, at age 74. Ms. Graham was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Portland. She graduated from Girls Polytechnic High School. She was a sales clerk for a few years, retiring in 1970.
Survivors include her brother, Orwin E.

Ruth J. Graves
Ruth J. Graves died April 7, 2001, at age 96. Mrs. Graves was born Ruth Johanson on Sept. 18, 1904, in Salt Lake City. She lived throughout the United States before moving from Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Portland in 1980 and was a bookkeeper until retiring in the early 1970s. In 1925, she married
Ernest M. Graves; he died in 1991.
Survivors include her son, Richard M.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
