Tina Faye Horton
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Rose City cemetery for Tina Faye Horton, who died Jan. 25 of cancer at age 60. Mrs. Horton was born June 27, 1940, in Los Angeles. Her maiden name was Schliecher. She moved to Vancouver, Wash., as a child and graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1958. She moved to the Portland area in the late 1960s and was a musician who played the bass and sang in various groups around Portland and also in Las Vegas. She later was an assembly worker for Tektronix and then worked in the clean room for Intel. She worked as an assembler for NEC America and a cookie packer for Nabisco until March of last year. She was a member of the Neighborhood Church in Tualatin. In 1968, she married
Ronald Webster; they later divorced.
Survivors include her sons, David E. Moats and Jody L. Webster; daughter, Ronnie Faye Crandall; sister, Rosalie Hall; brother, Mike Schliecher; and four grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances to Providence Hospice. Arrangements are by Rose City Funeral Home.
Newton Hursh
Newton Hursh died Jan. 19, 2001, at age 93. No service will be held. Mr. Hursh was born April 15, 1907, in McMinnville and moved to Portland as a child. He was a meat cutter for the Safeway on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, retiring in 1961. In 1928, he married
Nellie Hubbard.
Survivors include his wife; daughter-in-law, Regainia "Susan" Buss. His son, John C., died in 1994.
Private interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Arrangements are by Portland Memorial Funeral Home.
Marsha Jeppeson
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Sandy Funeral Home for Marsha Jeppeson, who died Jan. 26 at age 90. Mrs. Jeppeson was born July 5, 1910, in Palisade, Neb. Her maiden name was Trainer. She moved to Lake Oswego in 1938, and to a farm in Eagle Creek in 1940. She was a cook for the Eagle Creek Elementary School until she retired in 1975. During the summers, she was a cook for the Salvation Army. She married
Neal Jeppeson; he died in 1971.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Marjory Jeppeson; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her son, Thomas L. Jeppeson Sr., died in 1999.
Interment will be in Scandinavian cemetery in Sandy.
James Clarence Judge Jr.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Skyline Funeral Home for James Clarence Judge Jr., who died Jan. 24 at age 76. Mr. Judge was born March 27, 1924, in Butte, Mont. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He moved to Portland in 1942 and was a boilermaker for several companies, including Fabri-Valve (formerly Albina Engine and Machine Co.), working out of Boilermakers Local 72. He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church in Beavercreek. In 1946, he married
Arvella Mecham; she died in 1973. In 1976, he married
Barbara Nation; she died in 1993. In 1993, he married
Marie Bowen.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Daniel, James and Daryl; sister, Beverly M. Townsend; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His son Ronald died in 1984.
Interment will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family suggests remembrances to Eagle Fern Camp, in care of Eastgate Bible Chapel.
The Rev. Jerry P. Lynch
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in St. John's Lutheran Church in Chehalis, Wash., for the Rev. Jerry P. Lynch, who died Jan. 25 of cancer at age 62. The Rev. Lynch was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Potlatch, Idaho. He moved to Spokane as a child and graduated from John Rogers High School in 1956. He attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb., and graduated from Central Seminary (now Chicago Theological Institute) in Fremont. He was pastor for Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilbur, Wash., then moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, where he was pastor for Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Bethel Lutheran Church in Firth, Idaho.
In 1974, he moved to Colton and was pastor of Colton Lutheran Church. In 1986, he moved to Butte, Mont., and was pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He retired in 1992 and moved to Chehalis. He was the pulpit supply pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church until becoming pastor for the past four years. He was past treasurer of the Chehalis Ministerial Association. He married
Nancy Burbank in 1957.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Jay, Joel, Jeffrey and Jeremy; daughter, Julie Bailey; brothers, Joe, Don and Gene; and six grandchildren. His daughter Jill D. Lynch died in 1982.
Interment will be in Colton Lutheran cemetery in Colton. The family suggests remembrances to the St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 103 Wallace Road, Chehalis, WA 98532. Arrangements are by Sticklin Funeral Chapel in Centralia, Wash.
William E. Milliser
William E. "Bill" Milliser died Jan. 21, 2001, of cancer at age 74. No service has been planned. Mr. Milliser was born May 16, 1926, in Port Clinton, Ohio. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was a truck driver. He moved to Scappoose about 40 years ago, where he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a volunteer firefighter. He later lived in Portland.
Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Lacinek; son, William E. Jr.; sisters, Marjorie Busby and Mary Ellen Sams; nephew and caregiver, Louis "Butch" Ceccoli; three grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Powellhurst Care Center. Arrangements are by Portland Funeral Alternatives.
Orville Moore
Orville Moore died Jan. 18, 2001, at age 85. A private memorial service was held. Mr. Moore was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Bauxite, Ark., and moved to Trona, Calif., in 1935. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in North Africa. He was a carpenter for Kerr-McGee in Trona for 43 years, retiring in 1980. He lived in Glide for 10 years before moving to Beaverton four years ago. In 1950, he married
Helen Carr Cook.
Survivors include his wife; daughter Jane A. Willams; stepson, Vernon Cook; stepdaughter, Margaret Hiller; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His stepson Elliot Cook died in 1985.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Hillsboro United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Portland Funeral Alternatives.
Lena Amanda Quinn
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in the Milwaukie Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Lena Amanda Quinn, who died Jan. 26 at age 69. Mrs. Quinn was born Nov. 16, 1931, in Denison, Kan. Her maiden name was Crosswhite. She moved to the Portland area as a young woman. She was a real estate agent for Robin Realty in Milwaukie for about 12 years. She was an active member of the church.
Survivors include her sons, Dennis Higley and Randy Higley; daughters, Teri Nelson, Gayle Skei and Debbie Andrew; brother, Bert Crosswhite; sister, Dorothy McCord; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the mission fund at her church. Arrangements are by Stehn's Milwaukie Funeral Home.
Johanna E. Rowell
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Scholls Community Church for Johanna E. Rowell, who died Jan. 23 at age 80. Mrs. Rowell was born July 9, 1920, in Portland. She graduated from Commerce High School. Her maiden name was Pfeifer. She was a manager for several restaurants in the Portland area, including Jolly Jones, Fireside and Jake's Famous Crawfish, until retiring. She moved to Lake Oswego in 1962 and to Scholls in the early 1970s. In 1962, she married
Francis Rowell; he died in 1983.
Survivors include her stepson, Jack Bessett; stepdaughters, Marilyn Rowell and Janice Bessett; brother, Casper Pfeifer; sisters, Pauline Hokanson and Antonia Albon; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Interment will be in Mountainside cemetery in Scholls. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Donelson, Sewell & Mathews.
John Jacob Smith
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in New Hope Community Church for John Jacob Smith, who died Jan. 25 at age 77. Mr. Smith was born April 21, 1923, in Homer, Neb. He was raised in Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific. He moved to Gresham in 1947. He was a plumber working out of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 290. He owned Jay Jay's Plumbing from 1976 until he retired in 1990. In 1945, he married
Helen Virginia Budd; she died in 1993.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth; daughters, Carol Harper, Jerrie Covey and Jeanette McCoy; brothers, Glenn, D.B. and Fay; sister, Martha Smith; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the mission fund at his church. Arrangements are by Stehn's Foster Road Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be at noon Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in Meridian United Church of Christ, the Frog Pond Church, for Wilda Maurine Grimm Southard, who died Jan. 25 at age 86.
Mrs. Southard was born April 11, 1914, in Stafford. She graduated from West Linn High School in 1932. Her maiden name was Koellermeier. She was a co-founder and co-owner of Grimm Fuel in Lake Oswego in the 1930s. She was a longtime member of the church. Her grandfather, Dr. Nathaniel Robbins, was an Oregon pioneer, one of the first to stake a claim in the Tualatin area. In 1935, she married
Fred H. Grimm; he died in 1962. In 1965, she married
Charles Southard.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Rodney Grimm and Richard Grimm; daughter, Peggy McInnes; stepson, Robert Southard; stepdaughters, Marilyn McGarry, Pam Moore and Debbie Whitecotton; sister, Mildred Bennett; brother, Lester Koellermeier; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private interment is in Riverview cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Riverview Abbey Funeral Home.
Irene E. Wilson
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Irene E. Wilson, who died Jan. 25 at age 83. Mrs. Wilson was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Portland. Her maiden name was Yost. She moved to Astoria as a child and graduated from high school there. She returned to Portland in the early 1940s and was a homemaker. She moved to Milwaukie in 1960. In 1940, she married
William W. Wilson; he died in 1992.
Survivors include her sons, David and Thomas; brother, Raymond Yost; sisters, Katherine Hollingworth and Fran Thomas; and two grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Fritz Joy Abendroth
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors for Fritz Joy Abendroth, who died Jan. 14 at age 86. Mr. Abendroth was born April 7, 1914, in Morrison, Mo. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He moved to Portland in 1945 and was a construction worker out of Local 296 for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. In 1943, he married
Bertha Myers.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Fritz J. Jr. and Gary P.; sister, Annie Bacon; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
