Ercil N. McAbee
Ercil N. "Mac" McAbee died Oct. 23, 2000, of diabetes at age 68. A memorial gathering was held. Mr. McAbee was born March 7, 1932, in Lincoln, Calif. As a young man, he served in U.S. Air Force. He moved to Portland in the early 1970s. He had been living in Lake Oswego since 1988. He was an equipment manager for Goodwill Industries for about 12 years before retiring in 1997. In 1976, he married
Susie Brock.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Deborah Adams, Jennifer Thomas and Victoria Gandy; mother, Donnie; sister, Patricia Anderson; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. Charles McDowell
A memorial service will be on held Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Jamestown, N.D., for the Rev. Charles McDowell, who died Nov. 7 at age 86. Rev. McDowell was born March 16, 1914, in Brookville, Pa. He graduated from God's Bible School in Cincinnati, from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., in 1943, and from Asbury Seminary in 1946.
A United Methodist minister for 33 years, he served in Montana, South Dakota and North Dakota before retirng in 1979, when he moved to Portland. He was a member of Rockwood United Methodist Church in Gresham. In 1996, he moved to Jamestown, N.D. In 1943, he married
Eunice Williams; she died in 1996.
Survivors include his son, David; daughters, Ellen Feibleman and Alma Lynn McDowell; and five grandchildren.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Gresham. The family suggests remembrances to Jamestown Hospice, 419 Fifth St. N.E., Jamestown, ND 58401. Arrangements are by Lisko Funeral Chapel in Jamestown.
John M. McGraw
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for John M. McGraw, who died Nov. 7 of diabetes and congestive heart failure at age 67. Mr. McGraw was born April 13, 1933, in Wallowa and was raised in Sandy and Vancouver, Wash. He attended Vancouver High School and received an engineering certificate from Clackamas Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He was a self-employed carpenter and then a construction superintendent, most recently for M.L. Hansen before retiring in 1990, and also taught drafting at Clackamas Community College in the late 1970s. In 1955, he married
Juanita Mae Schwabauer.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Cherrine Munden and Kimberlee Junker; sons, Larry and Gary; brothers, Larry, Kent, Herb and Joe; sisters, Joyce Carter, Barbara Haggerty, Mary Jones, Ruth Cunningham, Kathy Gribble and Judy Johnson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in River View cemetery.
Janette D. Young
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Ross Hollywood Chapel for Janette D. Young, who died Nov. 7, apparently of a heart attack, at age 52. Mrs. Young was born May 7, 1948, in Beloit, Kan., and moved to Portland in 1956. Her maiden name was Reiter. A graduate of Grant High School, she was a medical and disability claims adjuster for Saif Corp. for 10 years and for Freightliner for the past seven years. In 1968, she married
James A. Young.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Tamara L., Teresa L. Lester and Tracey L.; sister, Gayla Reiter; and seven grandchildren.
Disposition was by cremation. Private interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum.
Ruth E. Aycock
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Springwater Presbyterian Church for Ruth E. Aycock, who died Nov. 6 at age 81. A graveside service will precede the memorial service at 10 a.m. Mrs. Aycock was born Feb. 20, 1919, in Springwater. Her maiden name was Guttridge. She graduated from Estacada High School in 1936 and from Oregon Normal School in 1938. She taught in Springwater and Estacada before moving to Lincoln City in 1966, then taught in Taft Elementary School until retiring in 1980. She returned to Estacada in 1999 and was a member of the church. In 1940, she married
Ernest "Ray" Aycock; he died in 1974.
Survivors include her brother, Joseph Z. Guttridge; and sisters, A. Anne Vaughan and Elizabeth R. McMullen.
Interment will be in Springwater cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Estacada Funeral Chapel.
Virginia N. Welty Bridges
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Forest View cemetery in Forest Grove for Virginia N. Welty Bridges, who died Nov. 7 at age 104. Mrs. Bridges was born Jan. 18, 1896, in Burlington Junction, Mo., and was raised in Arcadia, Neb. Her maiden name was Welty. She taught in a one-room school in Nebraska for four years and then moved to Portland in 1934, where she was a field worker and owned a restaurant in Multnomah for two years. About 1937, she moved to Gaston, where she was a turkey farmer. She moved to Forest Grove about 1940, and was a licensed practical nurse for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for 20 years and for other homes until retiring about 1980. After retiring, she cared for the elderly in her home. She was a member of Forest Grove First Christian Church. In 1918, she married
Iven C. Bridges; he died in 1945.
Survivors include her son, J. Leo; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. Her daughter, Myrtle "Sis" Thrush, died in 1991, and her son, Robert, died in 1998.
The family suggests remembrances to the women's ministry of her church. Arrangements are by Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.
Julia Elaine Burnham
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Julia Elaine Burnham, who died Nov. 5 at age 76. Miss Burnham was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Portland. She graduated from Franklin High School and attended the University of Oregon. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Marine Corps. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for more than 30 years, retiring as a manager in the early 1980s. A former vice chairwoman of the Oregon Democratic Central Committee, she attended three national Democratic conventions in the 1960s and was appointed to two presidential committees, one to inspect facilities for women in the service.
She is survived by her brother, Allen.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery.
Esther Helena Christner
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Zion Mennonite cemetery in Hubbard for Esther Helena Christner, who died Nov. 6 at age 92. Mrs. Christner was born July 22, 1908, in Campbell, Neb. Her maiden name was Koch. A homemaker, she moved in about 1927 to Molalla and was a member of Macksburg Lutheran Church in Canby. In 1926, she married
Clinton Christner; he died in 1987.
Survivors include her son, Gale; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Francis A. Evers
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort for Francis A. "Fran" Evers, who died Nov. 5 at age 78. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the church. Mr. Evers was born March 29, 1922, in Verboort. He graduated from Forest Grove High School and farmed in Verboort, raising cattle, wheat, oats, barley and hay until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the church and a past chairman of the Verboort Sausage & Kraut Dinner. In 1958, he married
Louella M. VandenBerghe.
Survivors include his wife; son, Daniel F.; daughters, Joanie M. Cunningham and Rebecca K. Croissant; brother, Willis; sisters, Lucille Kempen, Sister Anna Evers, Margaret Landauer, Barbara J. Meeusen and Janice Duyck; and four grandchildren. His son, Donald F., died in 1974.
Interment will be in Visitation cemetery. Arrangements are by Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.
Joseph Haines
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Joseph Haines, who died Nov. 6 of cancer at age 81. Mr. Haines was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Lawton, Mich. In 1943, he moved to Portland to work in the shipyards. He was a carpenter out of Local 1020 for about 30 years before retiring in 1980. In 1949, he married
Jean Barbara Snell.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Ani Haines-Mitchell; sisters, Beulah Kleveland, Alice Altman and Frances Burnham; brother, Sam; and one grandchild.

Dewayne B. Hansen
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Oregon City First Presbyterian Church for Dewayne B. Hansen, who died Nov. 2 of a stroke at age 74. Mr. Hansen was born April 20, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn., and was raised in Portland. He attended Jefferson High School and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Afterward, he was a jeweler and watchmaker for businesses and then owned Hansens Jewelers in Canby for 17 years and in Oregon City for about five years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the church. In 1948, he married
Bernice I. Strandberg.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Larry D. and Ron S.; brother, Herbert; sister, Adella Olson; and six grandchildren.

Phyllis Ann Herrington
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Caldwell's Colonial Chapel for Phyllis Ann Herrington, who died Oct. 25 of heart and lung disease at age 58. Ms. Herrington was born Dec. 22, 1941, in Boston. She graduated from George Washington University. She lived in Virginia; Washington, D.C.; California and Ashland before moving to Portland in 1975, and was a case worker for Oregon Services to Children and Families for about 25 years before retiring in 1999. In 1967, she married
Dr. Virgil C. Pebley; they were later divorced.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Pebley; and brothers John Harrington and William Harrington.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Portland Audubon Society.
Christine A. Hutt
A service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery mausoleum in Vancouver, Wash., for Christine A. Hutt, who died Nov. 6 of congestive heart failure at age 96. Mrs. Hutt was born June 12, 1904, in Tonsberg, Norway. Her maiden name was Christofferson. Her family immigrated in 1909 to San Pedro, Calif., and later moved to South Bend, Wash., where she was raised. She graduated from South Bend General Hospital School of Nursing and was a nursing supervisor for hospitals. In 1935, she moved to Vancouver, where she was a nurse in the office of her future husband for about two years before their marriage. After her marriage, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vancouver. In 1937, she married
Dr. Clyde B. Hutt; he died in 1992.
Survivors include her daughter, Carmen B. Dorman; sister, Grace Anderson; and one grandchild.
