Mary Jo Murphy
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Mill for Mary Jo Murphy, who died Jan. 9 at age 79. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Home. Mrs. Murphy was born June 14, 1921, in Peoria, Ill. Her maiden name was Crahan. She moved to Portland from Chicago in 1980, and was a homemaker and a member of the church. She was also a volunteer for St. Vincent Hospital. In 1947, she married
Carl Murphy.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Steve, Dan and John; daughter, Anne; brother, Jack Crahan; sister, Jeanne Bonner; and 10 grandchildren.
Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to St. Vincent de Paul Society at her church.
Kermit James Osness
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in St. Luke Lutheran Church for Kermit James Osness, who died Jan. 5 at age 88. Mr. Osness was born March 6, 1912, in Langford, S.D. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, Iowa, and then moved in the 1930s to Portland. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Aleutians, then returned to Portland and was an administrator for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. From 1956 to 1961 he lived in Canby, where he served on the City Council. He later lived in Seattle and Sacramento, Calif., returning to Portland when he retired from the BLM in 1971. He was a member of the church. In 1946, he married
Marget Tangen.
Survivors include his wife; son, William; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park in Canby. The family suggests remembrances to his church. Arrangements are by Canby Funeral Chapel.
Fredrick D. Shortridge
Fredrick D. Shortridge died Dec. 27, 2000, of a heart attack at age 76. A private service was held. Mr. Shortridge was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Santa Rosa, Calif. During World War II, he served in the merchant marine. He moved in the mid-1970s to Beaverton. He was an insurance salesman for Continental Casualty and also sold real estate. He later lived in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Mexico before moving last year to Longview, Wash. In the mid-1980s, he married
Mary Curtin; she died in 1999.
Survivors include his sons, Steven P. and Michael J.; brothers, Steve, Greg and Byron; and five grandchildren. His son Tony died in 1993.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Arrangements were by Autumn Funerals & Cremations.
Arthur L. Stevens
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Tigard for Arthur L. Stevens, who died Jan. 7 at age 86. Mr. Stevens was born May 8, 1914, in Portland. He graduated from Columbia Prep and the University of Portland, and he received a doctoral degree from the University of Notre Dame. He taught biology at Madison and Marshall high schools, then became head of the biology department of Portland Community College at its inception. He retired from PCC in 1979 as dean of the department of life sciences and health. After retiring, he lived in Rockaway Beach until moving in 1987 to Tigard. He married
Bette Cronin in 1945; she died in 1985.
Survivors include his daughters, Helen Comstock and Sara Havnar; son, Jeff; sister, Dorothy Istvanovic; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Crown Cremation & Funeral Services.
Jere Taylor-George
Jere Taylor-George died Jan. 1, 2001, of cancer at age 50. There will be no services. Mrs. Taylor-George was born Feb. 12, 1950, in Portland, where she lived all her life. Her maiden name was Greer. She graduated from Grant High School in 1968. She worked briefly for Consolidated Freightways and was a manager for Healthy Deli in Clackamas Town Center for about seven years in the 1980s before becoming a homemaker. In 2000, she married
Robert George.
Survivors include her husband; stepsons, Rob George and Richard George; father, Damon Greer; stepmother, Roberta Greer; brother, Damon Greer Jr.; and one grandchild.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
Rena 'Bill' Louise White
Rena "Bill" Louise White died Dec. 30, 2000, at age 86. No service will be held. Mrs. White was born on Feb. 18, 1914, in Dillon, Mont. Her maiden name was Scriven. She moved to the Portland area in 1940 and was a saleswoman for SH Kress department stores. In 1942, she married
Garland Elmo White; they divorced in 1978.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne L. Stanfill; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the American Lung Association.
Victoria Allison
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Red Hill Church of Marin in San Anselmo, Calif., for Victoria "Vicky" Allison, who died Dec. 26, 2000, at age 81. Mrs. Allison was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Cambridge, Minn., and moved to the San Francisco area in 1925. Her maiden name was Olson. She was a homemaker and a member of the church in San Anselmo, and she lived in Marin County for almost 50 years. She was a member of Greater Portland Bible Church after moving to Portland in 1999. In 1940, she married
Harold Allison; he died in 1996.
Survivors include her daughters, Louise Snyder and Linda Weissenburger; sister, Jeannette Lyerla; brother, Jim Olson; and three grandchildren.

Emma Elizabeth Brandon
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in St. Mary's Cathedral for Emma Elizabeth Brandon, who died Jan. 7 at age 80. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee funeral home. Mrs. Brandon was born March 25, 1920, in Lakewin, Penn., and grew up in Hood River. Her maiden name was Rice. She moved to Portland as a young woman. She and her husband owned the Baseball Inn, later renamed the Clock, until the mid-1960s. She provided child care in her home for about 25 years, retiring in 1991, and received a Friend of Friendly House award for her work. In 1946, she married
Miles D. Brandon; he died in 1965.
Survivors include her son, Miles II; stepdaughters, Susan Hebert and Joyce Hooper; sister, Wilhelmina "Billie" McCurley; and seven grandchildren.
Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Legacy VNA Hospice.
Albert E. Dunklee
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Albert E. "Al" Dunklee, who died Jan. 5 of a stroke at age 75. Mr. Dunklee was born March 13, 1925, in Portland. He graduated from Grant High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He graduated in 1953 from Oregon State College. He lived throughout the United States, New Zealand and Australia as a chemical engineer for DuPont for 32 years, retiring in 1985. After his retirement, he moved to Vancouver, Wash. He married
Helen McFarlane in 1953.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Susan Kahut; son, John; brothers, Laurence and Howard; and three grandchildren. His daughter Jane Mitchell died in 1992.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
Vida E. Goltry
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Jennings-McCall Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove for Vida E. Goltry, who died Jan. 4 at age 90.
Mrs. Goltry was born June 4, 1910, in New Rockford, N.D., and was raised in Jamestown, N.D. Her maiden name was Wilson. She moved to McMinnville in 1935, and later to Eugene, where she was a PBX operator for hospitals and hotels. During World War II, she worked in the Portland shipyards. After the war, she was a switchboard operator for the Vanport Kaiser Hospital, an insurance company clerk, and then a sales clerk for Meier & Frank until retiring. She moved to Forest Grove in 1991. In 1952, she married
Halbert Goltry; he died in 1985.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the endowment fund of the Masonic & Eastern Star Home. Arrangements are by Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.
Nanette Jean Graybeal
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Valley Community Presbyterian Church for Nanette Jean Graybeal, who died Jan. 7 of cancer at age 6. Nanette was born April 11, 1994, in Portland.
Survivors include her parents, Ronald L. and Jane F.; sister, Alyssa; brothers, Ryan and James; and grandparents, Roger, Jeanne Thrane and Ruth Fisher.
Private interment will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family suggests remembrances in her name to Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation. Arrangements are by Skyline Funeral Home.
Harold Bernard Haldors
Harold Bernard Haldors died Dec. 31, 2000, at age 90. No service will be held. Mr. Haldors was born Dec. 19, 1910, in Portland. He graduated from Washington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He began as a deliveryman at Charlie Helwig Office Supplier and retired as a vice president in 1991. He married
Dorothy Miller in 1934.
He is survived by his wife.
Interment is in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Arrangements were by Portland Memorial Funeral Home.
Archie Paul Harrington
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Skyline Memorial Gardens for Archie Paul Harrington, who died Jan. 2 at age 90. Mr. Harrington was born May 10, 1910, in Glenwood. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He owned Archie's Food Store in Newberg for about 15 years and then was a custodian for the Beaverton School District until his retirement in 1975. After his retirement, he was a part-time custodian at the Safeway in Aloha until 1988. He married
Mary Ruth Boussum Jorgensen in 1987.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda Mason and Lauralee Nichols; and brother, George.
