Mildred Pearl Arff
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in City View cemetery in Salem for Mildred Pearl Arff, who died Jan. 8 at age 98. Mrs. Arff was born June 25, 1902, in Salem. Her maiden name was Stanton. She graduated from Garfield Business College in Salem and lived in Dallas before moving in 1932 to Portland. She was a bookkeeper for her husband's businesses, including Northwest Silversmiths. She married
John H. Arff in 1925; he died in 1987.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice L. Carroll; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Her son, Robert E., died in 1999.
The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Gable & Parkrose Funeral Chapel.
Daniel C. Blazing
Daniel C. Blazing died Dec. 30, 2000, at age 88. A private service was held. Mr. Blazing was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Port Arthur, Ontario. He owned a floor-covering store in Chisholm, Minn., and then lived in San Francisco before moving in the mid-1970s to Portland. He married
Ethel V. Knudson; she died in 1995.
Survivors include his son, James D.; daughter, Patty Silver; brother, Tom; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. Interment is in Rose City cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Portland Rescue Mission. Arrangements were by Mt. Scott Funeral Home.
Mary Mae Clark
A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Mary Mae Clark, who died Jan. 4 at age 79. Mrs. Clark was born March 5, 1921, in Heyburn, Idaho. Her maiden name was Storey. In 1935, she moved to Vernonia and graduated from Vernonia High School. She lived in Cornelius and was a homemaker and an assembly worker for Tektronix for 20 years before retiring in about 1980. In 1937, she married
Dale Clark.
Survivors include her husband; son, Gary L.; sister, Lois Scriber; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
Marie Coovert
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Rose City Funeral Home for Marie Coovert, who died Jan. 7 at age 83. Mrs. Coovert was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Portland. Her maiden name was Ezitta. She was a homemaker and also a seasonal cannery worker. During World War II, she worked in the Portland shipyards. She was married
to Curtis Coovert for 30 years before they divorced in the mid-1970s.
Survivors include her son, Michael; daughters, Kathleen Richards and Juanita Hollyfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Rose City cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the National Kidney Foundation of Oregon and Southwest Washington.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Village Baptist Church in Beaverton for Jason Carl Amundson Delgado, who died Jan. 5 in a car accident at age 16.
Jason was born July 14, 1984, in Spokane and lived in the Beaverton area for the last five years. He was a sophomore at Century High School and a member of the church.
Survivors include his mother, Lucienda Amundson; father, Joseph F.; stepfather, Mel Amundson; sister, Erika Amundson; and grandmothers, Dorothy Merriman and Sara Hultenschmidt.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the scholarship fund at his church. Arrangements are by Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary.
Elizabeth M. Flack
A graveside service will be at noon Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Mountain View cemetery in Oregon City for Elizabeth M. Flack, who died Jan. 7 at age 93. Mrs. Flack was born Jan. 12, 1907, in South Hampton, England, and immigrated to the United States as a child. Her maiden name was Nicholson. She lived on Staten Island, N.Y., where she was a legal secretary, and then in Sausalito, Calif., from 1953 until moving to Jennings Lodge in 1995.
Survivors include her son, Charles; sister, Margaret Fors; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Peake Memorial Chapel.
Edward R. Frias
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Wilhelm Funeral Home for Edward R. Frias, who died Jan. 8 of cancer at age 57. Mr. Frias was born Nov. 18, 1943, in Oakland, Calif., and was raised in La Grande. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He then lived in Milwaukie, where he was a member of the The Dwelling Place. He owned Eddie's Amusement Games from 1977 to 1983. In 1977, he married
Bonnie Lakin.
Survivors include his wife; stepson, Kevin Austero; stepdaughters, Karen Hinkle and Kelly Bishop; sister, Jan Haberman; brother, Robert; and four grandchildren.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery.
Verl Leroy Gump
Verl Leroy Gump died Jan. 4, 2001, of cancer at age 75. No service will be held.
Mr. Gump was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Portland, where he was raised and went to school. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. After the war, he worked for the State of Oregon Highway Department. He later drove trucks for May Trucking Co. until his retirement in 1981. In the late 1940s, he married
Marge Harding; they later divorced. In 1968, he married
Wanda Curry; she died in 1998.
Survivors include his daughters, Leslie Barron and Catherine Doyle; brother, Theodore E.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Corvallis.
Howard Bork Hansen
Howard Bork Hansen died Jan. 1, 2001, at age 76. A private gathering will be held. Mr. Hansen was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School. During World War II, he served in the merchant marine and the U.S. Navy. Afterward, he was a deputy in Mill Valley, Calif., and then for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office before retiring in the early 1960s.
Survivors include his son, Michael; nephew, Jim Vernon; niece, Joan Fields; and two grandchildren.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are by Wilhelm Funeral Home.
Edna May Hartley
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Young's Funeral Home for Edna May Hartley, who died Jan. 8 at age 93. Mrs. Hartley was born July 20, 1907, in Webster Groves, Mo. Her maiden name was Horspool. She moved to Portland in 1925 and was a homemaker. In 1936, she married
John E. Morledge; they later divorced. She married
Elmer Troxel in 1971; he died the same year. In 1979, she married
Andy Hartley; he died in 1987.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Lee Meacham and Shirl J. Soots; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Easter Seal Society of Oregon.
Emma Klein
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Emma Klein, who died Jan. 8 at age 97. Mrs. Klein was born Dec. 8, 1903, in McLaughlin, S.D. Her maiden name was Hertel. She moved to Portland in 1934 and was a homemaker. In 1921, she married
Jack Klein; he died in 1980.
Survivors include her daughters, Verna Mueller, Fern Woehlert and Carol Thorstad; sons, Allan and Earl; 43 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Her sons, Howard and Jack, and her daughters, Eileen Helms, Annie Woodward, Betty Velletta, Rosemary Densom, Lillian Cline and Henrietta Lindsey, died earlier.
Private interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society.
Donald Reed Krieger
A memorial Mass will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, North Portland Catholic Community, for Donald Reed Krieger, who died Jan. 2 of cancer at age 71. Mr. Krieger was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Grand Island, Neb. He served in the Nebraska National Guard. In 1949, he moved to Portland, where he was a clerk for the Portland Terminal Railroad for 40 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the church. In 1948, he married
Viola Mays.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Kathryn Kremin; son, Walter; sisters, Gretchen Spear and Corrine Fickey; and five grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Hopewell House. Arrangements are by Hustad Funeral Home.
Elizabeth Anne Mulcahy
Elizabeth Anne Mulcahy died Jan. 6, 2001, of cancer at age 50. A private service will be held. Mrs. Mulcahy was born Dec. 5, 1950, in Worcester, Mass. Her maiden name was Sampson. She moved to Portland in 1986, and graduated from Mt. Hood Community College, then was a administrative assistant for National Systems Research for the past 12 years. In 1969, she married
Dennis Mulcahy.
Survivors include her husband; son, Michael; daughters, Beth Hurley and Kelly Kero; parents, Edward and Mildred Sampson; sisters, Margaret Sampson, Shirley Roussin, Katherine Duncan and Mary Trowbrige; and five grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to any cancer research program. Arrangements are by Crown Burial & Cremation Service.
