William Maurice Leighton
William Maurice "Bill" Leighton died Jan. 11, 2001, at age 72. No service will be held. Mr. Leighton was born July 11, 1928, in West Linn. He graduated from Redmond High School and the University of Mexico City. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an executive director for Mississippi Ballet International in Jackson, Miss. Then he was an executive assistant for the Joffrey Ballet and personal assistant to Robert Joffrey for more than 25 years. He lived in Seattle, then moved to Seaside in 1995 and moved to Oregon City in 1999.
Survivors include his brother, Donald O.; one niece; and five nephews.
Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
Alland Lawrence Levy
Alland Lawrence Levy died Jan. 6, 2001, of complications following heart surgery at age 79. No service will be held. Mr. Levy was born March 17, 1921, in Winthrop, Mass., and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He owned the Milton York Candy Co. and restaurant in Long Beach, Wash., was vice president of J and J Remodeling Co. of Portland during the 1970s. In 1970, he married
Maxine.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Patricia Erigero and Pam Levy; son, Peter of Seattle; his former wife, Ruby Levy; and two grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Humane Society of Pacific County, 324 Second St. NE, Long Beach, WA 98631. Arrangements were by Autumn Funerals & Cremations of Tigard.
Lorraine Rae Lippoff
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in the Gevurtz Chapel of Ahavai Sholom cemetery for Lorraine Rae Lippoff, who died Jan. 13 of cancer at age 76. Mrs. Lippoff was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Portland, where she lived all her life. Her maiden name was Horenstein. She was a teller for First Interstate Bank before her retirement. She was a member of Congregation Neveh Shalom and a volunteer there and for the Robison Jewish Health Center. In 1946, she married
Marvin Lippoff.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Bari Isaacson; son, David; sister, Rosalie Goodman; and three grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances to Robison Jewish Health Center Sisterhood. Arrangements are by Holman's Funeral Service.
Emil O. Lukas
Emil O. Lukas died Jan. 7, 2001, at age 88. No service will be held. Mr. Lukas was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Portland, where he lived his entire life. He served in the merchant marine in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, and worked as a merchant seaman ship's carpenter until retiring in 1977. In 1962, he married
Edna Grey; she died in 1988.
Survivors include his daughter, ZoAnn Spriete; son, Gary; and sisters, Ruth Fox and Bertie Raade.
Interment is in Willamette National cemetery.
Danny L. Nash
Danny L. Nash died Jan. 7, 2001, of a heart attack at age 47. A private service was held. Mr. Nash was born June 14, 1953, in Soap Lake, Wash., and was raised in Quincy, Wash. He was a long haul truck driver in Moses Lake, Wash., until becoming disabled in 1990. He then moved to Hillsboro and worked for Stewart-Stiles Truck Line.
Survivors include his daughters, Jenny Vogeleang and Kelly Nash; mother, Delma Tripp; father, Don; sisters, Karen Terborg and Kathy Meder; brothers, Alvie Schroeder and Terry; sisters, Jackie Andes and Denise Hendershott; grandmother, Hazel Day; and two grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home.
Donald Buster Reed
A service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Donald Buster Reed, who died Jan. 11 at age 81. Mr. Reed was born July 27, 1919, in Portland, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Grant High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe. After the war, he graduated from the University of Oregon. He worked for Thomas Hahn Insurance for more than 50 years, beginning as a salesman and retiring as a partner in 1995. In 1945, he married
Doris Metzger; she died in 1998.
Survivors include his son Denny; daughter, Dee Nitson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by Wilhelm Funeral Home.
John G. Roll
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Hillside Chapel for John G. Roll, who died Jan. 10 of a heart attack at age 82. Mr. Roll was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Burt, N.D. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He moved to Sheridan in 1951, and in 1952 to Oregon City, and was a machine operator for Globe Union, a battery manufacturer, for 28 years before retiring in 1981. In 1946, he married
Jessie V. Bail.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Janet F. Adams, Dellene G. Seitz and Gayle M. Cole; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association.
Velva Frazier St. Onge
Velva Frazier St. Onge died Jan. 6, 2001, of emphysema at age 75. A private memorial service will be held. Mrs. St. Onge was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Pe Ell, Wash., where she was raised. Her maiden name was Frazier. She moved to Portland in the late 1950s. She was a travel agent in Alaska and California before becoming a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward, retiring in 1988. In 1963, she married
Joseph St. Onge; he died in 1978.
Survivors include her son, Joseph M.; daughter, Cindy; brother, Albert Frazier; stepbrother, Doc Snell; and one grandchild.

Harry E. Schatz
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in St. Johns Funeral Home for Harry E. Schatz, who died Jan. 10 of emphysema at age 77. Mr. Schatz was born April 30, 1923, in Oregon City. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and survived the sinking of the USS Lexington. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1949. He was a commercial fisherman out of Ilwaco, Wash., then returned to Portland where he was a telegrapher for the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railroad for 12 years. Then he was a salesman for Shippers Car Line. Later, he returned to the railroad. Then he was a custodian for Portland Public Schools, retiring from Skyline Elementary School in 1988. He married
Beverley Schier in 1948.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Patricia Dallal; and nephew, Richard.
Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Lung Association.
Norman Frank Street
Norman Frank Street died Jan. 7, 2001, of a stroke at age 68. A private service was held. Mr. Street was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Oregon City. He graduated from Milwaukie High School, and he received a bachelor's degree from Portland State University and a master's from Oregon State University. He taught high school algebra in Knappa for three years and for 27 years in Astoria, retiring in 1990. In 1954, he married
Lorraine Thomas.
Survivors include his wife; son, James; daughters, Karen Nimtz and Amanda Witmer; mother, Frances; brother, Howard; and five grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Astoria High School Scholarship Fund, Astoria High School, 1001 W. Marine Drive, Astoria, OR 97103. Arrangements are by Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Astoria.
Allen Swenson
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in United Methodist Church in Sherwood for Allen Swenson, who died Jan. 10 at age 88. Mr. Swenson was born July 14, 1912, in Portland. He graduated from West Linn High School. He worked for Portland Canning in Sherwood for 32 years, becoming production manager before it closed in 1972. He thenworked for Peterson Manufacturing until 1978.He owned Al Swenson Canning Equipment, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the church. He served on Sherwood's school board and city council in the 1960s. In 1936, he married
Rose M. Martin; she died in 1995.
Survivors include his daughters, Janice Becker and Carol Warren; sons, Dale and Ken; sister, Elizabeth; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Pleasant View cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to his church. Arrangements are by Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel.
James Tabb
James Tabb died Jan. 8, 2001, of heart disease at age 63. No service will be held. Mr. Tabb was born Jan. 28, 1937, in Wilmington, Del. He served in the Marine Corps. He moved to Portland about 1980. He was a security guard for Burns International, retiring in 2000.
Survivors include his brother, Marvin; and nieces and nephews.
Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.
Verna E. Trollope
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in All Saints Catholic Church for Verna E. Trollope, who died Jan. 10 at age 77. Mrs. Trollope was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Portland, where she lived all her life. Her maiden name was Warren. She graduated from Jefferson High School. She was a packer for Nabisco and then for Van Duyn Chocolates, retiring in the early 1980s.
Survivors include her son, George Jr.; daughter, Kathleen Schwartz; brother, Jerome Warren; sister, Janet Leonard; and two grandchildren. Her son Stephen died in 1996.
Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. Arrangements are by Zeller Chapel of the Roses.
