Rusty 'The Snail' Thomas
A memorial gathering will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Rusty "The Snail" Thomas, who died Jan. 6 at age 57. Mr. Thomas was born Oct. 17, 1943, in Portland and was raised in Tigard, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Tigard High School in 1962 and attended Clackamas Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a foreman for the Tigard Water District for 33 years before retiring in 1996.
Survivors include his son, Brandon M.; and daughter, Tiffany E.
Disposition is by cremation.
Cleo G. Turner
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Cleo G. Turner, who died Jan. 6 at age 86. Mrs. Turner was born Nov. 15, 1914, in Independence and was raised in Portland. Her maiden name was Croft. She graduated from Franklin High School. In 1934, she moved to Clatskanie, where she was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She was a member of the Apostolic Finnish Lutheran Church in Clatskanie. In 1932, she married
John W. Turner; he died in 1968.
Survivors include her son, John W.; sisters, Viola Henkel, Dorothy Grosh, Daphne Smith and Ramona Gandi; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation.
Esther L. Wood
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton for Esther L. Wood, who died Jan. 14 at age 81. Mrs. Wood was born July 15, 1919, in White Lake, S.D., and moved to Stayton in 1935. Her maiden name was Nightingale. She graduated from Stayton High School in 1937 and was a homemaker. She lived in various places throughout the Willamette Valley before settling in Hillsboro in 1994. In 1938, she married
Robert K. Wood; he died in 1994.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda A. Stettler and Carol J. Conner; son, Larry A.; brothers, Everett Nightingale and Lowell Nightingale; sisters, Bernice Camp; Edith Ricks and Shirley Larimer; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Lone Oak cemetery in Stayton.
Edward A. Bartlett
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Edward A. Bartlett, who died Jan. 8 at age 90. Mr. Bartlett was born Sept. 21, 1910, in Granite Falls, Minn., and was raised in Portland. He graduated from Grant High School and owned Powell Valley Implement from 1958 until retiring in 1984. In 1938, he married
Virginia Eyman; she died in 1995.
Survivors include his sons, Sam and Ed; daughter, Beverly Park; 17 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
Desdemona B. Byland
Desdemona B. Byland died Jan. 8, 2001, at age 85. A private service will be held. Mrs. Byland was born April 5, 1915, in Corvallis. Her maiden name was Jones. She was a homemaker and lived in Portland from the late 1930s until moving to Tolovana Park in 1979. In 1935, she married
Terry G. Byland.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Bonnie J. McGregor and Teri J. Dean; sisters, Tony Powell and Juanita "Toodles" Taylor; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Crystal Lake cemetery in Corvallis. Arrangements are by Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary.
Wesley Andrew Corn
Wesley Andrew Corn died Jan. 8, 2001, at age 80. A private service will be held. Mr. Corn was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Clifton, Ariz. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He worked as a salesman until his retirement in 1985. He moved to the Portland area in 1957. In 1942, he married
Irma Snyder; she died in 1984. He married
Violette Anderson in 1992.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Nancy Smedley; son, Michael; and four grandchildren.
Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Friends of the Earth. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.
Margaret E. Follett
Margaret E. Follett died Jan. 5, 2001, of respiratory failure at age 88. A private service will be held. Mrs. Follett was born Feb. 1, 1912, in Gates. Her maiden name was Smith. She worked in the dietitian's department at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Portland, retiring in 1977. In 1930, she married
Kenneth Wallingford; they divorced. In 1953, she married
Del Follett; he died in 1988.
Survivors include her sons Roger Wallingford, Robert Wallingford and James Wallingford; stepson Dennis; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her son David Wallingford died in 1959, and her son Kenneth Wallingford died in 1986.
Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial.
Christene S. Ford
Christene S. Ford died Jan. 3, 2001, at age 79. A private service will be held. Mrs. Ford was born Jan. 27, 1921, in De Witt, Ark., where she was raised and went to school. Her maiden name was Capps. She lived in California, Idaho, Montana and Arizona before moving to Gaston in 1965. She worked for Mears Control in Beaverton, retiring in 1981. In 1940, she married
Alfred C. Ford; he died in 1992.
Survivors include her sons, Ken and Doug; daughters, Lois Thompson, Joyce Stevens and Doris Gerdes; brothers, J.D. Capps, Jim Capps, Merle Capps and Orbe Capps; sister, Audrey Capps; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Karen M. Hendricks
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Karen M. Hendricks, who died Jan. 8 of cancer at age 56. Mrs. Hendricks was born May 6, 1944, in Hibbing, Minn., and was raised in Portland. Her maiden name was Grittner. She attended Scappoose High School and was an assembly worker for Chase Packing for 15 years and then was a dispatcher for Rose City Cab for the past month. In 1965, she married
Harold Hendricks.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Sherry Grittner and Angie Hendricks; sons, Alfred, Harold Jr. and Joseph; stepdaughters, Millie Ktistakis, Elizabeth Mutschler, Lenita Suiter and Dorothy Hendricks; stepson, Lee; brother, Kenneth Grittner; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Willamette National cemetery.
Ida Marie Humphreys
Ida Marie Humphreys died Jan. 6, 2001 at age 92. There will be no service. Mrs. Humphreys was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Concord, Neb. Her maiden name was Evans. She was a supervisor in the state employment department in Portland. In 1945, she married
Dave L. Humphreys; he died in 1980.
Survivors include her son Earle Costello; sisters Dorothy Odeane, Harriet Eddy and Adah Whittaker; brothers Charles Sargent and Frank B. Evans; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Steptoe Bethel cemetery in Steptoe, Wash. Arrangements are by Caldwell's Cononial Chapel in Portland.
Gladys E. Innes
Gladys E. Innes died Jan. 9, 2001, at age 105. A private service will be held. Mrs. Innes was born Aug. 29, 1895, in St. Francis, Minn., and moved to Portland in 1921. Her maiden name was Emmans. She owned Deluxe Beauty Salon on Northeast Fremont Street from the late 1930s to the mid-1970s. She had been secretary of the State Board of Cosmetic Therapy and president of the Oregon Association of Beauty Shop Owners. She was a member of Grant Park Baptist Church. In 1921, she married
W. Howard Innes; he died in 1965.
Survivors include her son, Bud; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Interment is in the Lincoln Memorial Park mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to Mt. Hood Hospice. Arrangements are by Caldwell's Colonial Chapel.
Zora Marie Jack
Zora Marie Jack died Jan. 6, 2001, at age 85. No service will be held. Mrs. Jack was born May 19, 1915, in Portland. Her maiden name was Stankovich. She was a graduate of Franklin High School and worked as a sales clerk for Fred Meyer stores and the 88 Cent store and as a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Zora Chandler and Linda Cobb; son, Ivan; sisters, Olga Mathiesen and Helen Haskins; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Disposition will be by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center at Providence Portland Medical Center. Arrangements are by Wilhelm Funeral Home.
Loretta M. Kolb
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Portland for Loretta M. Kolb, who died Jan. 12 at age 91. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home. Mrs. Kolb was born July 19, 1909, in St. Louis, Mo. Her maiden name was Casper. She was a long-distance telephone operator in St. Louis before moving to Portland in 1942, where she was a homemaker and a 48-year member of the church. She was a volunteer at Portland Adventist Hospital for five years. In 1929, she married
Raymond L. Kolb; he died in 1972.
Survivors include her sons, Richard A. and Kenneth J.; daughter, Dolores J. Bales; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment is in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to St. Anthony's Village.
