Lori Elizabeth Rouches

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home for Lori Elizabeth Rouches, who died Oct. 28 at age 44. Mrs. Rouches was born April 29, 1956, in Fort Wayne, Ind., and moved to Portland as a child. Her maiden name was Klossner. She graduated from Sunset High School and Oregon State University. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Beaverton. She volunteered as a tutor at Burton Elementary School in Vancouver, Wash., where she lived since marrying Peter Rouches in 1979.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Erica and Amanda; parents, Gordon and June Klossner; brother, Kirk Klossner; and sister, Kelly Wise.

Interment will be in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to her church.

Mario Alfonso

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in the Potter's House Christian Fellowship Church, 304 N.E. 80th Ave., for Mario Alfonso, who died Oct. 29 of cancer at age 62. Mr. Alfonso was born Oct. 22, 1938, in New York. He served in the U.S. Navy and moved to Portland in 1961. He was a machinist for Iron Fireman, which became part of Boeing, for 35 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the church. In 1959, he married Sherry Lindsley.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Mario Jr., Michael and Mathew; daughters, Irene Jacobs and Alice Thorn; brothers, Eugene and Raymond; and 14 grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.

Theodore Brown

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for Theodore "Ted" Brown, who died Jan. 20 at age 93. Mr. Brown was born Jan. 9, 1908, in Martin, S.D. He moved to Portland in 1943. He was a line worker for Milwaukie Plywood for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the church and a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Survivors include his son, Melvin F.; and nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in Gethsemani Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to his church. Arrangements are by Mt. Scott Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tigard for Helen Lee Bailey Baker Cairney, who died Jan. 4 of cancer at age 88.

Mrs. Cairney was born March 30, 1912, in Portland. Her maiden name was Stanton. She graduated from Franklin High School. She moved in 1948 to Edmonds, Wash., and was a secretary for Westgate Elementary School until retiring in 1976. In 1991, she moved to Tigard, where she was a member of the church, and she lived in Bothell, Wash., for the past year. She married Kingman B. Bailey in 1935; he died in 1978. She later married Daniel C. Baker; he died in the mid-1980s. She married Ralph Cairney in 1991; he died in 1999.

Survivors include her sons, Bruce G. Bailey and Brian R. Bailey; daughter, Kaye Loughmiller; sister, Virginia Stanton Peck; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Bothell Funeral Home.

Roberta Jean Barry

A viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Roberta Jean Barry, who died Oct. 30 at age 72. A private memorial service will be held. Mrs. Barry was born March 31, 1928, in Portland. Her maiden name was Charlton. She attended Gresham High School. She was a switchboard operator and worked for Pacific Northwest Bell, Hyster, American Steel, and Pacific Fruit and Produce, retiring in 1978. She married Eldon Barry in 1952.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Linda Thompson and JoAnne Gordy; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity.

Charles 'Chappy' Bloomberg

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Gevurtz Chapel in Ahavai Sholom cemetery for Charles "Chappy" Bloomberg, who died Oct. 31 at age 86. Mr. Bloomberg was born July 5, 1914, in Portland. He graduated from Benson Polytechnic School and worked for Portland Electric & Plumbing for about 40 years, retiring as a sales manager in 1986. He was a member of Congregation Neveh Shalom. In 1946, he married Fannie Lockitch; she died in 1987.

Survivors include his daughters, Shirley Harrison and Marcia Sklar; companion, Esther Feldstein; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family suggests remembrances to Cedar Sinai Park. Arrangements are by Holman's Funeral Service.

Daniel J. Braxmeyer II

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Holy Cross Catholic Church for Daniel J. Braxmeyer II, who died Oct. 28 at age 82. Mr. Braxmeyer was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Solen, N.D., and moved to Portland in 1939. He was a self-employed watchmaker in the St. Johns area of Portland until retiring in 1981 and was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church. In 1941, he married Eleanor Ihringer; she died in 1986.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Deitz; sisters, Mary Berns, Lillian Nolan and Annie Kirkwood; brothers, Erasmus, Luke and the Rev. Dominic; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. His son, Daniel J. III, died in 1998.

Private interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Arrangements are by Hustad Funeral Home.

Arlo J. Campbell

A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Faith United Methodist Church in Troutdale for Arlo J. Campbell, who died Oct. 30 at age 85. Mr. Campbell was born April 27, 1915, in Sherwood, N.D., and was raised in Marathon, Iowa. During the Depression, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Afterward, he lived in Iowa before moving in 1951 to Pueblo, Colo., where he was a psychiatric attendant and later a technician for the Colorado State Hospital until retiring in 1975. He moved in 1993 to Gresham and was a member of the church. In 1946, he married Dorothy Bishop-Johnson.

Survivors include his wife; son, James; daughter, Jane D. Glaser; stepdaughter, Elaine Ketchum; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to his church. Arrangements are by Gresham Funeral Chapel.

Tiffany Ann Finlayson

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Tiffany Ann Finlayson, who died Oct. 28 in a car accident at age 18. Miss Finlayson was born July 21, 1982, in Seattle. In 1985, she moved to the Portland area, where she attended Rex Putnam High School. She moved to Thompson Falls, Mont., and returned to Milwaukie in June after graduating from high school. She recently began working as a waitress at the Old Chicago pizza restaurant in Clackamas.

Survivors include her father, Robert; mother, Kelly Hanna; stepmother, Heidi; stepfather, Don Hanna Jr.; stepsisters, Katherine Hanna and Alexandra Hanna; and her grandparents.

Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Sadie B. Garman

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Rose City Funeral Home for Sadie B. Garman, who died Oct. 30 at age 91. Mrs. Garman was born June 30, 1909, in Merrill, Wis., and was raised in Portland. Her maiden name was Wittren. A homemaker, she was also an inspector for Jantzen Knitting Mills for about 15 years, a nurse's aide for Shriners Hospital for Children and a cook for Madison High School until blindness forced her retirement in 1967. She was a past member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. In 1932, she married Fred Hiegel; he died in 1966. She married Dean Garman in 1967; he died in 1981.

Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Adkins; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her son Fred Hiegel died in the late 1960s.

Interment will be in Rose City cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Discoveries in Sight at Devers Eye Institute.

Opal E. Goins

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel for Opal E. Goins, who died Oct. 30 at age 82. Mrs. Goins was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Tabor, Iowa. Her maiden name was Bain. She moved to Portland in 1942, and was a secretary for ORGO Construction for 25 years before retiring in 1983. She later lived in Boring and Fossil. In 1935, she married Orville Goins; he died in 1995.

Survivors include her son, Gary; sister, Myrna Campbell; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.

Darlyn 'Dodie' Gutkaes

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Washburn-McReavy Swanson Chapel in Minneapolis for Darlyn "Dodie" Gutkaes, who died Oct. 26 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at age 67. Mrs. Gutkaes was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Delano, Minn. She moved to Portland in 1943. Her maiden name was Trenary. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1951, she lived in Minneapolis and was a homemaker. She lived in Portland again from 1977 to 1981, then returned to Minneapolis. In 1952, she married John Kelly; he died in 1964. She married Robert Gutkaes in 1966; he died in 1994.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Kelly, Theresa Bialostosky, Mary Jaeger and Susan Hermansen; stepsons, Robert and Daniel; stepdaughter, Patty Aldrich; mother, Arvilla Trenary; brother, Robert Trenary Jr.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301-5104.

Mary Lou Hartzell

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in St. Francis cemetery in Roy for Mary Lou Hartzell, who died Oct. 27 of heart disease at age 57. Ms. Hartzell was born March 29, 1943, in McMinnville. Her maiden name was Vandehey. She graduated from Banks High School and was a bookkeeper for the Washington County Extension Service and for several other companies, retiring from Building Material Specialties in Hillsboro in 1992. She was a member of Beaverton Foursquare Church. In 1972, she married Francis Hartzell; they later divorced.

Survivors include her sons, Troy and Travis; daughter, Tracey; sisters, Betty Fuller, Mert Fenimore, Darlene Wood, Terry McRoberts and Dot Pecks; brother, Elden Vandehey; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Holman Hankins Bowker & Waud.
