Laurie Anne VLS Shonerd
5/6/50-3/12/06
Laurie lived the most exemplary of lives. She treated everyone she met with grace and kindness, gentleness and generosity. She forgave and she loved, always teaching by example and with humility. Laurie inspired those around her to reach for their highest potential. At her core, Laurie was a spiritually driven person. Her relationship to God and the Truth was unshakeable. Everything she thought and did flowed from that awareness.
Laurie accomplished a great deal in her short life. She graduated from UC Davis in 1973, worked as a nutritionist, went back to receive her registered nursing degree and worked as an obstetrical nurse. She also had careers in farming, college-level dance teaching and custom framing. Laurie was a gourmet chef for family and the Sierra Club, an accomplished gardener/landscaper, a music composer, a writer and a superb watercolorist. She showed her watercolor work locally, and was a member of the Oregon Watercolor Society. Laurie loved nature, took joy in mountaintop exploration, and deeply enjoyed the company of friends and family. Most of all, Laurie was a truly fabulous wife, mother and friend.
Laurie is survived by her husband Dr. John Shonerd, her children Laurel, Gabriel "Whistler, " Carel, and Kathie, as well as sisters Libbey McKendry and Helen Cardenas and brothers Russel and E.C.D."Topper" vanLobenSels, and her mother Elizabeth "Pan" vanLobenSels. We of Laurie's extended family and the many friends she touched will now lovingly carry her in our hearts. Bon Voyage, joyful Laurie-see you soon! A celebration of Laurie's life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Drive, Medford, Sunday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. Donations should be made to the REACHQuest project to help brain injured children, mailed to the Reach Family Institute, 881 Olympic Ave., Medford, Or. 97504.
