William A. Hice
William A. Hice, of Kent, Washington passed away October 16, 2005, with his family by his side. He was 50 years old when he died of acute lymphoblastic leukemia at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 9, at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The Rosary and Funeral Mass were held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Covington, Washington.
Bill Hice was born June 3, 1955, at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. He attended Rogue River High School and graduated from Southern Oregon College in 1977. Upon graduation, he received his commission in the United States Marine Corps. He left the Marine Corps as a captain after 14 years of service. He lived in Kent, Washington for 13 years.
Mr. Hice was the Federal Security Director for Southern Oregon for the Transportation Security Administration under the Department of Homeland Security in Medford for three years and retired due to illness in June of 2005. Before that, he worked as a Special Agent for the Federal Aviation Administration in the Civil Aviation Security Field Office for 13 years in Renton, Washington.
His awards include the Navy Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Officer in Charge of Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Team MCLB Barstow, California. - recipient of the Wharton Trophy in 1989. His passions included his family, the Marine Corps, his work, fishing, boating, flying and target shooting.
Bill was preceded in death by his 14 year old son, Thomas Gregory Hice, Feb. 29, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kathleen Hice of Kent, Washington; son, Shane Hice of Bremerton, Washington; daughters, Teresa Hice and Anne Marie Hice, both of Kent, Washington; parents, Gilbert and Helen Marie Hice of Gold Hill; brothers, Tom Hice and Gib Hice, both of Gold Hill; and sister, Linda Shepard of Gold Hill.
Remembrances may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Association and to The Family to Family Foundation.

Darthea M. Tunnicliffe
Darthea Marion Tunnicliffe, 87, of Medford, died Wednesday (Feb. 16, 2005). Private services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel.

She was born on June 16, 1917 in Kobe, Japan. She moved to the Rogue Valley 11 years ago from Portland. She married
Michael W. Tunnicliffe who survives.
Mrs. Tunnicliffe was a graduate of Brown Master. She did her graduate work in London.
She taught at Miss Hall's school in New England, Lady Doak College in Mathurai, South India, Elin University in North Carolia and she was a professor at Clackamas Community College. She retired in 1976.
In addition to her husband survivors include a son, James M. Tunnicliffe of the Dominican Republic; a daughter, Marilyn Zupan of Medford; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Edith Cowles Adams
A graveside service for Edith Cowles Adams will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at the First Baptist Church, 649 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. Pastor Rick Burns of the First Baptist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Adams, 87, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2005) in Medford.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1917 in Lindsay, CA to Charles and Grace Cowles. On April 24, 1937 in Lindsay, CA she married
Lawrence Adams who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950.
Mrs. Adams and her husband owned and operated a Richfield Service Station in Medford.
She taught Good News in the schools from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Her children were the children of the church.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, John Adams; and a sister Jean C. Adams both of Kingsburg, CA.
Edith will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Harold L. Grubbs
Harold Lee Grubbs, 92, of Central Point, died Feb. 17, 2005 at Waterford at Three Fountains.
Harold was born Aug. 28, 1912 in Hooker, OK. He married
Katherine Steele on May 26, 1936 in Emmett, ID. They moved to Medford from Emmett in 1950.
He worked at Ross Lumber, Elk Lumber and retired from Kogap in 1968.
Harold enjoyed his garden, flowers and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; three daughters, Jane Brown of Central Point, Bonnie Glenn, of Portland, Ramona Lehnert, Medford; six grandchildren; three step-grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded by three sisters and five brothers.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Providence Hospice Care.

Marian B. Thurston
A memorial service for Marian B. Thurston will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville. Internment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Mrs Thurston, 88, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2005) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.
She was born on Sept. 8, 1916 in Staley, W. V. to Patrick and Kate Bayne. She moved to the Rogue Valley 28 years ago.
Mrs. Thurston owned and operated an antique shop until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, the Grange and was a hospital volunteer.
Mrs. Thurston enjoyed antiques, golfing and bird watching.
Survivors include a son, Donald Channell and his wife Martha; a step-son Charles Setchell; a step-daughter Cynthia Scala; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, and three husbands.

Norman F. Semler
Norman F. Semler, 70, passed away Feb. 15, 2005 in Spokane, WA.
He was born April 16, 1934 in Colton, WA.
Mr. Semler is survived by two sons, Dennis (Terri) Semler of Spokane Valley, and Doug (Jeannie) Semler of Otis Orchards, WA; four daughters, Donelle (Douglas) Cotter of Colbert, WA, Darla (Robert) Larrison of Spokane Valley, Diana (Bryan) Payant of Pendleton, OR, and Debbie (Jim) Repp of Spokane Valley; two sisters, Lucille (Bob) Weber of Uniontown, WA and Marlene (Jack) McKimson of Bremerton, WA; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Norman has been a lifetime resident of the Inland Northwest. He graduated from Moscow (ID) High School in 1952. He lived in Medford, OR for a time. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston, WA and of the Eagles Lodge.
Norman was a school bus driver for the Colfax School District; he especially enjoyed driving students to their sporting events. He also loved fishing, golfing, coaching baseball, and flagging for stock car races. He is a beloved dad, uncle, papa, and brother.
A memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 23 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1018 S. Main Street, Colfax, WA, with Reverend Felix P. Lorge as celebrant.

Richard 'Rich' Wray
Rich, 19, of Medford, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 in Medford.
Rich was born on April 6, 1985 at Rogue Valley Medical Center to William Wray and Tuzeday (Workman) Wray.
He enjoyed spending time with his beautiful little daughter, hanging out with his brothers, sisters, family and friends, flyfishing, skateboarding, drawing and art. Survivors include his love and life partner, Cassandra DeBeck; his 11 month old daughter, Christina Marion Wray; his mom and dad, Bill and Leanne; his mother Tuzeday; his friend and brother, Tom; his sisters, Adriel and Claire; and his brother Lennon.

Rich's free spirit was cherished. He will be missed.
Vernon Steven Mortensen
Lois Ann Mortensen Vern and Lois Mortenscn perished in an accident on Highway 199 in Gasquet on Feb.10, 2005. The couple had lived in Grants Pass for 18 years.
Vern was born on Jan. 16, 1942 in Providence Rhode Island and came to the west coast in the 1960s. On Sept. 26, 1972 he married
Lois.
He owned and operated a janitorial service, and delivered newspapers for the Mountain Democrat. He along with his wife worked at casinos in Stateline, NV.
Vern enjoyed playing pool and was in several leagues throughout his lifetime.
Lois was born on Feb. 8, 1944 in South San Francisco and was raised in the Mountain View- Los Altos, CA areas. She was a member of the first ever graduating class at Awalt High School in 1963. She attended beautician school in San Francisco.
She owned a operated a ceramic shop in her home and worked the casinos.
Lois enjoyed antiques, restoring costume jewelry, garage sales, going to swap meets or looking for deals from the Home Shopping Network. She, with her husband traveled thousands of miles throughout the west finding treasures for her to reinvent.
Surviving the Mortensens are the couple's three sons (and their spouses) Greg (Cori) of Grants Pass, Stephen (Lisa) Rider of Lynnwood; Paul (Kirstin) Rider of Marysville, Washington. Also, surviving are their four grandchildren; Vern's brother Melvin Mortensen of California; and Lois's sister, Jean Rennick of Oak Hill, VA. The couple was preceded in death by their parents and Lois's brother.
A graveside ceremony is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Flat cemetery south east of Murphy, OR with Deacon Jim McVeigh of Saint Anne Catholic Church presiding. All are welcomed to attend.
William 'Bill' P. Albers
A celebration of life for William "Bill" P. Albers will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
Bill, 61, of Medford passed away after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimers on Feb. 14, 2005.
Bill was born on March 17, 1943 in Eugene. He was raised in the Klamath Falls area then moved to the Rogue Valley. In July of 1995, he married
Maria D. De Los Santos who survives.
Bill was a longtime truck driver who enjoyed reading and entertaining his grandchildren.
He was a kind, sincere, and devoted man whose smiling face brought joy to those he touched.
