LaRayne Marie Penacho Ronge
LaRayne Marie Penacho Ronge, 83, of Medford (former Rogue River resident), died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Family services will be held in Salinas, California.
She was born April 2, 1921 in Vallejo, California. In 1937 in Castroville, California she married
John Penacho, who preceded her in death in 1974. In 1987 in San Martin, California, she married
Charles Ronge, who also preceded her in death in 2002. In March 1997, she moved to Rogue River from Pittsburg, California and in December 2004 moved to Medford to live with her son.
She was active in St. Anthony's Portuguese group in both Medford and Salinas, California.
She loved flowers, crafts and sewing. She was a good cook and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include two sons, John Penacho of Central Point and Mike Penacho of Medford; a sister, LaVern Alves of Kauai, Hawaii; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a niece, a nephew and two great-nieces.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Penacho.
Marian D. Mellis
A Celebration of Life for Marian Mellis will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5th at 4074 Antelope Road.
Mrs. Mellis, 83, of White City, died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2005) at a Hearthstone Manor.
She was born April 1, 1921 to Charles M. and Grace Estes Carter in Pasadena, CA. In 1939, in Reno, NV, she married
Ernest R. Mellis, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include: daughters, Gail Newton of White City and Shirley Prittchett of Redding, CA; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Mellis and her son, Albert R. Mellis.

Nina 'JoAnne' Oritz
Nov. 30, 1935 - Feb. 22, 2005
Nina "JoAnne" Ortiz was born in Medford, Oregon, the daughter of Jack LeRoy and Nina Belle (Goode) Hollenbeak. She was raised in Prospect and moved to Albany in the early 1960s.
JoAnne married
Norman Dean Peterson, Sr. on June 19, 1953. They later divorced. She moved to New Mexico in 1981 and lived there for a time. She married
Dan Ortiz in 1987 in New Mexico. He preceded her in death in 1989. After his death she moved to the Grants Pass area where she cared for her brother-in-law until his death. She then returned to the Albany area to be near her children and their families.
JoAnne atttended Willamette Community Church. She loved to go to casinos. She loved watching sports, painting, and cooking for her family.
JoAnne is survived by her children, Jacquelyn JoAnne Peterson, Connie Diane Peterson, and Norman Dean Peterson, Jr, all of Albany; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Palestine cemetery, in Albany, at 10 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2005.

Roland E. Wilburn, Jr.
Roland "Rollie" E. Wilburn, Jr., 82, of Medford, died Friday, February 25, 2005.
A graveside service will be on March 1, 2005 at the Eagle Point National cemetery. Arrangements are pending with Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
Rollie was born February 18, 1923 in Camas, WA, to Roland E. and Leurene (Copp) Wilburn. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Fireman 1st Cl. during WWII. He lived in the Rogue Valley 40 years.
Mr. Wilburn worked as a building engineer for Pacific NW Bell for 40 years.
He was a founding member of So. Oregon Live Steamers, a member of California Muzzle Loaders Club, and loved to hunt.
Survivors include his granddaughter Rosie; daughter Elizabeth Bliss of Eagle River, AK; and sisters, Patricia Hoffard of Murrieta, CA, Virginia Reidenbaugn of Riverside, CA, and Marilyn Judson of Davis, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; parents; and brother Robert.
Vera Helen Forsmark
Memorial services for Vera Helen Forsmark will be held at a later date in Port Washington, NY.
Mrs. Forsmark, 87, of Ashland, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at her residence.
Mrs. Forsmark was born Vera H. Anderson on June 26, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY. On October 12, 1946 in New York City she married
Harold G. Forsmark, who preceded her in death in 1986. She has lived in Ashland since 1998.
Vera was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She always saw the best in everything. Her infectious smile and loving, happy, positive outlook will be missed by all.
Survivors include her twin daughters, Ingrid Forsmark of Tok, Alaska and Linda Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; one grandson, Derek Johnson of Honolulu, Hawaii.

William Leroy Dayton
William "Will" Leroy Dayton, 22, of Coupeville WA. formally of Medford, died Feb. 7, 2005, when a 2, 800 pound drone helicopter fell on him while working aboard the x craft, a prototype catamaran being built for Navy.
He was born Aug. 2, 1982. With his passing his family has this to say about him: " An industrial accident at Nichols Bros. boat yard in Freeland WA. claimed the life of our son Will. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we will always remember Will's easy smile and his way of putting us at ease. Our beloved son brought unimaginable joy to his parents, family, and friends. From an infant to the young man he became, he was a source of pride and undying love. A son has been taken from us and delivered into the arms of the Lord much too soon. Words cannot express the loss of this special person.
We will miss you, Willie." Will is survived by his loving parents, Edward Dayton of Coupeville WA, and Terral and Steve Adams of Medford OR; his sister Shantell Dayton/ Adams; his brothers Edward Dayton and Stephen Adams. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, AFCM Alvie L. White of Oak Harbor, WA.; and uncle Jim Dayton of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 12, 2005 at Assembly of God Church in Langley, WA.
Will was laid to rest at Maple Leaf cemetery in Oak Harbor Washington on February 14, 2005.
Nichols Brothers Boat Builders has established the "William (Will) Dayton Memorial center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing and Technology Scholarship, " in memory of Will. Marjorie Clara Dusenberry, 90, of White City, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at a care facility in White City. Arrangements by Memory Gardens Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.
Albert C. Silveira, Jr.
Albert Carvalhal Silveira, Jr., age 75, of Medford, died October 27, 2005 in Medford. No services are planned. Interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Albert was born on December 17, 1929 in Patterson, CA to Albert and Margaret Silveira, and then moved to Medford in 1959.
He served in the U.S. Army from April 11, 1951 to April 3, 1953.
Albert drove truck for Interstate Trucking for over 10 years.
He enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Medford Eagles Club.
Albert is survived by his daughter, Carey Soderberg of Capitola, CA; brother, Delwyn Silveira of Patterson, CA; six grandchildren: Quinn Soderberg, Jeffrey and Stephanie Silveira, and Elizabeth, Robert and Kathyrn Habara.
Charles A. Calhoun
Charles A. Calhoun passed away on Oct. 27, 2005, from a severe head injury. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church of Ashland, 2nd and B Street, Ashland.
Charley was born in Delores, Colorado, on May 28, 1926. He moved to the Rogue Valley with his parents at the age of two. After attending Ashland schools, he enlisted in the Army in 1944 and he served in the Asiatic Pacific, receiving a purple heart. Upon his return in 1946, he started a trucking company which he operated until 1965. At that time, he purchased the Ashland School Buses which he operated until 1981 when they were sold to the School District. He continued to supervise the maintenance of the school buses until his death.
In 1948, he married
Helen Hollingsworth of Ashland, who survives. They were married
58 years.
Charley loved to fish in Montana and travel, but he always said, "My work is my hobby." In addition to his wife, survivors include, three children, Chuck Calhoun of Morgan Hills, CA, Richard Calhoun of Jacksonville, and Diana Bouman of San Jose, CA; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Charley was a loving, giving man and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Christian Church of Ashland.

John "JB" Chastain
A funeral ceremony for John "JB" Chastain will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at Memory Gardens Chapel, Medford. Pastor Mark Anderson of Ashland Christian Fellowship will officiate. A visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens Chapel.
Mr. Chastain, 86, of Central Point, died Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005) at his home.
He was born on July 5, 1919 in Choteau, Oklahoma to Ruben and Dora Chastain. On July 20, 1940 in Burbank, California, he married
Jeanette Eileen Chastain, who survives. They moved to Central Point in 1946.
JB served in the U.S. Navy during WWII at Okinawa and Iwo Juma aboard the USS Newberry and the USS Astoria.
He worked at Timber Products for 35 years.
JB enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Jeanette, survivors include, two sons, LeeRoy and Larry Chastain of White City; a daughter, Leah Rae Chastain of Medford; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, and four sisters.

Nova A. Guinn
The graveside service for Nova Arlene Guinn will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Guinn, 84, of Medford, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005.
She was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Tulsa, OK. On Feb. 6, 1949 in Tulsa, she married
Curtis Guinn, who preceded her in death in 1974. She had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1971, moving here from Calif.
Mrs. Guinn was a member of Valley Bible Fellowship in Talent and enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake.
Survivors include, three sons, Larry of Medford; Bert and Raymond Lewis, both of Oklahoma; three daughters, Maryln Guinn of White City, Peggy Sneed of Medford, Linda Freeman of OK; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and one grandson.

Joel Damien Romig
June 23, 1970 - October 30, 2005
Joel Damien Romig, 35, of Medford, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at home. A memorial service will be held at Table Rock Christian Fellowship 3608 North Pacific Hwy., Medford, Oregon 97501 on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. Pastor Greg Rich will officiate. Interment will be held at Eagle Point National cemetery on Monday, November 7, 2005 at 10 a.m. for family members.
Joel was born on June 23, 1970 at Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital in Medford to Kathleen Faye Romig (Christensen) and Robert Dean Romig. Joel was a fourth generation Rogue Valley resident. He lived in Ashland and attended Ashland schools until 1980 when his family moved to Medford. He attended Medford schools, graduating from North Medford High School in 1988. He was a letterman in football from 1986 through 1988. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Communications Specialist serving in the first Gulf War 1990-91. He was discharged with honors including a National Defense Service Medal and a Southwest Asia Service Medal (Bronze Star) in May 1993. On July 15, 1989, he married
Natalie Wickersham in Reno, Nevada. They have one child, Kylynn Romig, who survives. After the military, Joel moved to Florida with his family and was employed as a car salesman. In 2000, the family moved back to southern Oregon and he attended Southern Oregon University (SOU) in Ashland. At the same time he worked for Southern Oregon Subaru-Volvo-Mitsubishi as a car salesman. He continued to work there until his death. In 2002, he and Natalie divorced. On February 23, 2003, he married
Oksana Zryanina who survives. Joel enjoyed boating with his friends as well as hiking, snow boarding, fishing, scuba diving, and hiking. Joel loved his family very much. Anyone who knew Joel could see that his daughter, Kylynn, was the light of his life. He never wanted anything more than to spend time with her and to see her happy.
Joel is survived by his wife, Oksana Zryanina-Romig; his daughter, Kylynn Romig; his sister, Sarah Rivas; his former wife, Natalie Romig-Tripplett; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews; and his grandmother, Nelle Christensen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Drake Julian Marshall, in 1991.
Joel was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, uncle, nephew, and he was a friend to everyone. He had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
