Alvin "Al" Manire
A graveside service for Alvin "Al" Manire will be at 2 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2005 at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Manire, 82, of Trail, died Wednesday (October 19, 2005) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born on March 22, 1923 in Forestburg, Texas to James and Ocie Manire. On Feb. 1, 1944 in San Diego, CA he married
Helen Batiz, who survives.
Mr. Manire served in the U.S. Army during WW II as an aircraft engine mechanic on the B-29 aircraft. During the Korean Conflict, he worked on the B-36 aircraft and continued in the aircraft industry in the NASA Space Program. He also served in the CCCs.
He was a member of VFW and former Commander of the Shady Cove VFW, and the Rogue Valley Leather Guild.
Mr. Manire loved bowling and leather work.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Alan Manire; a daughter, Carolyn Ratliff; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Barbara J. Cobb
Barbara J. Cobb, 79, died peacefully at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, on October 17, 2005.
Born February 5, 1926 in Manila, Philippines, Barbara was the eldest daughter of Elizabeth Busch Johns and Charles A. Johns, who was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the then U.S. territory of the Philippines. In 1932, their family returned to Portland, Oregon. Barbara was a 1944 graduate of Grant High School.
Barbara attended the University of Oregon, where she became a member of Delta Gamma sorority and was President of the Associated Women's Students and a member of Mortar Board. Barbara was listed in the Who's Who of American colleges. While at the University of Oregon, Barbara majored in Journalism with a minor in foreign languages. She had aspirations of becoming a foreign correspondence. That all changed in 1947 when she met the love of her life, William Samuel Cobb. They married
on October 9, 1948 following their graduations from the University of Oregon. Barbara and Bill just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.
Bill and Barbara settled in Portland where Bill began his accounting career and they started their family. Barbara committed her life to making a home for the two of them and raising their children. They were blessed with three sons and a daughter. Barbara was a devoted mother.
Bill's job transferred the family to Medford in 1960, where they were both involved members of the community. Two of their sons, William Cobb Jr. and Charley Cobb, graduated from Medford High School. While in Medford, Barbara was president of PEO Chapter P, President of Hoover Grade School PTA, a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and a Sunday school teacher and member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Bill's job moved them to the Portland area in 1968 and later to Pennsylvania. Following Bill's retirement, they returned to Oregon in 1986 and made their home in Lake Oswego.
In every town she resided, Barbara's constant was her family and PEO. She was an active member in each local PEO chapter. She loved being involved and enjoyed the many friendships she developed over the years.
Barbara loved being home, spending time with Bill, their children and grandchildren and traveling all over the world. Hawaii was a favorite vacation destination and cruising was the preferred mode. Together Bill and Barbara went on 24 cruises.
Barbara is survived by her husband, William Cobb of Lake Oswego; sons, William Cobb, Jr. of Palm Dessert, CA, Charley Cobb of Lake Oswego, and John Cobb of Menlo Park, CA; daughter, Marian Cobb McAndie of Portland; sister, Eleanor Lowry of Portland; and six grandchildren, Michael Cobb, Mathew Cobb, Jamison McAndie, Morgan McAndie, Bryant Cobb and Lauren Cobb.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 24 at Christ Church Episcopal Parish in Lake Oswego, with the Reverend JoAnn Leach officiating. A reception will follow.

Bobby Lewis Krous
Bobby "Bob" Krous, 71, of Vancouver, WA (formerly of Medford) went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 18, 2005. His wife Janice and his three children, Debbie Tiry, Deana Ruppel, and Jim Krous were at his side.
He was born on August 16, 1934 in Shawnee, OK. He moved to Medford as a young boy.
His passion was fishing.
In addition to his wife and children, survivors include his sisters, Shirley Lake and Ellen Wharton; two step-sons, Dennis and Troy Frye; grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Dodson; his father Herman Krous; and Joyce Jenkins (mother of his children).
Bob touched many peoples lives and will be greatly missed! Dad, we love you! Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October, 24 at Felida Church of Christ, 11105 Lake Shore Drive, Vancouver, WA.
Clifford Wayne Lowe
Clifford Wayne Lowe passed away on September 30, 2005 at his home in Medford.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Joyce DeGraaff.

Clifford Wayne Lowe was born on November 3, 1947 in McMinnville, TN, to Everett and Beryl Lowe. He married
Elizabeth Ann Gaston on November 1, 1969 at 1st Presbyterian Church in Medford. Clifford served in the Army National Guard, Army Reserves and U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict.
Clifford was a certified lumber grader for Olson-Lawyer Lumber in White City and McGraw Bros. Lumber in Ashland. Clifford also owned his own auto repair/painting business. At the time of his death, Clifford was employed by Bill's Backhoe Service driving a transfer truck.
Clifford was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church as well as a member of the Handbell Choir for more than 20 years, Son Shine Singers, the Chancel Choir, and member of the American Legion.
Clifford's hobbies included playing his guitar for contemporary worship service, camping, auto racing, collecting bells, and most of all, his five granddaughters and one grandson.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife of almost 36 years, Ann Lowe: sons, Clifford Wade Lowe and Chrystie, John-Clinton "J.C." Colby Lowe and Sondra of Medford, Stephen E. Walker of Vancouver, WA; in-laws Myron and Lenna Gaston of Medford; step-children Michael Stratton and Terry of Harrisburg, OR; Andrew Stratton and Lisa of Pendleton, OR; Kenneth Stratton and Karen of Anchorage, AK; Pamela Lopez and Charles of Sparks, NV; and Rebecca Taylor and James of Williamston, N.C.; granddaughters Bayley, Alexa-Rae, Meghan, Jaycee, Samantha Lowe and Courtney Leavens of Medford; and grandsons Alex Walker of Camas, WA.; and Chad Zerkel of San Diego California. He is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Beryl and John Eldon Jones; brother, Richard B Freeze; grandson, Lucas Walker; and first wife, LaVerna Mae Lowe.

Donald L. Stathos
Donald L. Stathos died on October 20, 2005 of complications from Cancer at his home in Jacksonville. He was 81 years old.
He was the son of Greek immigrant Harry Stathos and his wife, Sylvia Stathos. Don was born in Portland, Oregon on April 7, 1924. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942.
He served in the Navy from February 1943 to March 1946. He was a Navy man on a Merchant Marine ship. Don was a Signal Man for enemy vessel warnings.
Don obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Oregon State University in 1950. He then opened his own insurance business in Corvallis, Oregon. In 1955, he married
Barbara Brown in Burley, ID and then moved to Medford. Here he opened another insurance business that he later sold to Fred S. James; now Sedgwick, Inc. After he retired from Sedgwick, he opened Mission Insurance.
Don became involved in politics as early as 1960 when he served as the chairman of the Oregon delegation in the Electoral College for the 1960 presidential election between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. He served as a Republican State Representative for Jackson County from 1969 through 1972. Don initiated House Bill 1700 in 1971. He was known as the father of the Oregon Bicycle bill. This was the first bill in the nation of its kind. Many other states soon adapted similar bills. This bill designates 1% of highway funds to bicycle and pedestrian uses and requires bike lanes on new and rebuilt roads around the state. Don was passionate about roadway safety for bicyclists and pedestrians. He once stated "America is the richest nation in the world, but it is almost impossible to stay in good shape unless you drive to a health club. You should be able to walk out your front door and ride." He served on the Oregon State Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Don was also a leader in initiating other landmark Oregon bills; guaranteeing public access to all ocean beaches and the bottle bill, requiring deposits on bottles and cans to reduce the state's litter.
Don lived in Jacksonville, Oregon for 39 years. He also owned a home in Sunriver, Oregon. This was a home that Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed riding his bicycle on the Sunriver pathways, and the Jacksonville Highway bike path that is dedicated in his honor. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as skiing, tennis and rafting down the Deschutes River. He had a pilot's license, and frequently flew for business visits and with his family on vacation. Don loved to travel with his wife Barbara to such destinations as Rome, Venice, Florence, London, Paris, Vienna, and Greece. They also traveled on the Orient Express and sailed on the Sea Cloud. Don went on a bicycle tour of China. He also enjoyed spending time with his family on his Gold Beach property, Disneyland, and Hawaii.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Clifford, his parents, his brother Ashley, and his sister Lucile.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his son, Geoffrey; four daughters, Jenny Hill of Wilsonville, Holly Grew of Brush Prairie, WA, Karen Riss of Central Point, and Susan Perry of Moses Lake, WA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his brother, Harry.
A service will be held at Siskiyou Memorial Gardens on Friday, October 28, 2005. A viewing will be held at 12 p.m., followed by the service at 1 p.m. A gathering for family and friends to honor and celebrate Don's life will be held after the service at Mission Insurance, 2770 Biddle Road, Medford.

Jack R. Seiver
Jack R. Seiver was born on Sept. 14, 1927 in Madrid, NE. He died Oct. 18 2005 in Central Point OR. He retired from USAF, and from Klamath Falls school district.
He was a great father, granddad, friend. He was a great fisherman.
He will be missed! Survivors include four sons; one daughter; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Dorris I. Seiver.
Services and Internment will be at Klamath Memorial Park cemetery at 1 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 25, 2005. All are invited to pay tribute to this wonderful man.
June G. Revi
Surrounded by her children, June G. Revi, 82, died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 17, 2005, at her residence. She had battled kidney failure and a 4th bout with cancer.
She was born in Fertile, MN on June 1, 1923.
She was a country gal who enjoyed crafting, music and gardening. She and her beloved husband, James Revi, loved to dance in their earlier years. She never knew a stranger.
Survivors include her husband, James; five children: son, Ron and wife, Helen of Peoria, IL; son, Jerry and wife, Vickie of Graham, WA; daughter, Judy and husband, Steve of Central Point; son, Larry and wife, Linda of McAllen, TX; daughter, Janet and husband, Dan of Hemet, CA; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, three brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. June was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
She was loved by all who knew her.
Onita Marie Sheets
Onita Marie Sheets, 86, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 in Medford, Oregon.
She was born in Chanute, Kansas, September 6, 1919 to Robert and Minnie (Butts) Cation. She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, and husbands.

Arthur Henry Hoehner of Chamois, Missouri in 1937. In 1947 she married
Ollen C. (Joe) Sheets of Koshkonong, Missouri who was a Pearl Harbor survivor and 22 year navy veteran.
Besides her home in Chanute she lived in West Lafayette, Indiana; Algiers, Louisiana; and for 40 years in San Lorenzo/San Leandro, CA before moving to Medford, OR in 1996 to be near her family. She was a member of the San Lorenzo Community Church since 1950.
A viewing was held on Sept. 14, in Medford. Burial was Sept. 16, 2005 next to her family in the Leanna cemetery near Chanute. A special remembrance of Onita was inluded in the morning service at the Otterbein Methodist Church in Chanute on Sept. 18.
She is survived by her three children: two daughters born in Chanute, Roanne Clapp (husband, Darrell) of Talent, OR and Rolane Hughes (husband, Larry) of Chambersburg, PA and Salt Springs, FL; a son born in New Orleans, LA, Terence Sheets of Medford, OR; four grandchildren, Glenn Clapp (wife, Kara) of Sandy, Utah, Victoria Hedenstrom (husband, Robert) of Aurora, Colorado, Nancy Beckner (husband, Gerald) of Chambersburg, PA, and Sandi Kady (husband, Ed) of Chambersburg, PA, and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the loving care you gave our mother and grandmother.
Polly Ann Riley

Polly Riley, 78, of Medford, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.
Polly was born July 7, 1927 in Longton, Kansas to the late Winnie Harold and Evalina (Price) Carter. She attended Ottawa University in Kansas from 1947-1948. On May 28, 1949 in Paso Robles, CA she married
Herbert L. Riley, Jr. They were married
56 years before their deaths, less than one month apart (September 22nd and October 19th).
Polly was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the church choir. She was a member of the Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944, and from 1961-1972, served as PTA President.
She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, bible study, exercise class, and coffee group. A homemaker for the most part, she did work with her husband in his real estate business in the 1960s and 70s.
For many years the Riley's lived on Tolman Creek Road in Ashland, later moving to Medford to live on Cherry Lane, Creekview Drive, and most recently at Arbor Place on Juanapero Way.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Riley of Pleasanton, CA, Patrick Riley of Murrieta, CA, and Tim Riley of Talent, OR; two sisters, Winn Lou Fry of San Diego, CA and Peggy Varner of Lake Havasu, AZ; one brother, Gordon Joe Carter of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.

Ray F. Cherry
A graveside service for Ray F. Cherry will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor Kevin Gowland of the First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Mr. Cherry, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 19, 2005) in Medford.
He was born on February 15, 1919 in Texas to Bill and Amanda (Jackson) Cherry. He moved to Medford from Texas when he was six years old. On June 17, 1938, in Medford, he married
Inez I. Burke who preceded him in death on April 30, 1987.
Ray served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
He owned Ray Cherry Construction Co. and built many homes in the Medford area.
Ray loved boating, fishing, and working on old cars.
Survivors include his sons, Mike Cherry of Medford, and Lynn Cherry of Kettle Falls, WA; a daughter, Sheri Schodrow of Camarillo, CA; two brothers, Bob and Ivan Cherry; 16 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. He was was preceded in death by a sister, Alice and two grandchildren.

Ruth Minear Alborn
Ruth Minear Alborn, 92, passed away in her home at the Rogue Valley Manor on October 17, 2005. She was born February 26, 1913 in Medford, Oregon, to Mearl I. Minear and Jessie Darby Minear. She attended Griffin Creek Grade School and graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1931. Although she lived in other cities, Medford was her home for the past 49 years. She married
Evan Alborn in 1937. They were married
for 15 years. During this time, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.
In 1952 Ruth took a position with Dohrman Commercial Co. in San Francisco, before returning to Medford in 1956. She worked as a bookkeeper for Ko Gap Lumber Co. for 16 years. She invested in several duplexes, maintaining them herself. She moved into the Rogue Valley Manor in 1987, in an apartment next door where her mother had lived for over nineteen years. Jessie Minear was on the original Board of Directors of the Rogue Valley Manor.
Over the years Ruth did lots of knitting, crocheting and other crafts. She was an avid bridge player. At the Manor she was known as the "Queen of Jigsaws" for she constructed many and had a yearly show of the finished ones for all to enjoy. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews and they loved her.
Ruth is survived by two sisters, Gladys Williams of Bakersfield, CA and Glenna Thompson; and a brother, Don Minear both of Medford; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Robert Minear and one nephew, Phillip Minear.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26th in the Sunset Room at the Rogue Valley Manor. Memorial gifts may be made to the Rogue Valley Manor Foundation or the First Methodist Church of Medford.
Elsie Marie Brekke
