Edith I. Hertager-Bailey
Edith I. Hertager-Bailey, 83, of White City, died Wed., April 20, 2005, at Providence Medford Medical Center.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, 715 W. Main St., with Paul Hagedorn officiating. Burial will be at Klamath Memorial in Klamath Falls.
Edith was born on May 11, 1921 in Karlstad, MN to Claus Hilding and Ingeborg Nelson. She graduated Klamath Union High, Klamath Falls. She made Oregon her home for 79 years.
In 1940 in Reno, NV, Edith married
Henry Hertager and had three children, Richard, John and Linda. In 1986, in Las Vegas, NV she married
Cliff Bailey.
Edith was a medical receptionist in Medford for 35 years.
She enjoyed square dancing and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Brood (Delmar) of Phoenix, OR; her sons, Richard and John Hertager, both of Eagle Point; her sister Virginia Waits (Jim) of Klamath Falls; brother Holger Nelson of Klamath Falls; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Henry Hertager, and husband, Cliff Bailey.
Douglas George Knokey
Douglas George Knokey, 83, of Rainier, OR (formerly of Medford) died Sunday (April 24, 2005) at his daughters home in Gaston.
He was born in Hoquiam, Washington on July 10, 1921 to Erwin W. and Anna Knokey.
He married
Alice Dickey in a double wedding ceremony with Evelyn Dickey and Fred Palmer on Sept. 2, 1949 in Kalama, Washington.
Doug was very proud of his service to his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps as an armorer with the 490th Bomb Squadron, known as the Burma Bridge Busters. He was stationed in India and Burma from 1942 to 1945. He had a prominent role in a Steven Spielberg production of a documentary, "The Burma Bridge Busters", for the History Channel. In 1951, he was recalled into the Air Force for the Korean conflict, serving one year in the Philippines repairing aircraft instruments. For three years he was a guest at South Medford High School, relating his WW II stories to the students, which he especially enjoyed.
Doug worked in the plywood industry, helping to build and working in mills in Kalama, Washington and Tillamook, Oregon. In 1962 he moved his family to Medford, OR.
He worked for Timber Products for the next 26 years, retiring as their Plywood Production Manager. In 1989 he moved to Rainier, OR to the Christmas tree farm he had started as a weekend project in 1981.
Doug was a life member of the China-Burma-India Assoc., American Legion, Air Force Assoc, charter member of the WW II Memorial in Washington, D.C., charter member of the D-Day Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, life member of the Tillamook Masonic Lodge, life member of the Tillamook Elks Lodge, Plywood Pioneers Assoc., Beaver Homes Grange, and attended Shiloh Basin Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; a daughter, Dicki Nuttall of Gaston, OR; two sons, Donn, of Gold Hill, OR and David of Rochester, WA; four granddaughters; Dawn Irvine of Peoria, AZ, Shelly Knokey of Medford, OR; Stephanie Nuttall of Mendota Heights, MN; and Kimberly Nuttall of Hillsboro, OR; two great-grandsons, Cory and Tyler Irvine of Peoria, AZ; and one brother, Eugene of Anacortes, WA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard, and a sister, Dorothy Gould.
Services will be held on Friday, April 29 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
In lieu of flowers, he would be honored to have donations made to the National D-Day Museum, P.O. Box 97336, Washington, D, C. 20090-7336. The funds will be designated for a large addition to the present D-Day Museum in New Orleans, which will then be known as "America's National WWII Museum".
Irene L. Siegman
Irene L. Siegman, 91, of Medford, died Monday, April 25, at Golden Years Foster Care Home.
A viewing will be Wednesday, April 27 at Hull and Hull Funeral Home, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass from 5-8 p.m.
A memorial service will be at Hull & Hull Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 28.

Irene was born August 27, 1913 in Parsons, Kansas. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland in 1931. On September 4, 1931 in Portland she married
Jack Siegman, who preceded her in death. They moved from Astoria to Grants Pass in 1944 and purchased and co-owned the Siegman's Redwoods Bakery until 1965. From 1963 to 1978 she worked as the office manager for the Grants pass Orthopedic Surgeons. In March 1998, she relocated to Medford.
Her many memberships included Beta Sigma Phi Exemplar Chapter of which she served all elected offices; Zonta International of which she was elected Woman of the Year twice; Business & Professional Women; Junior Women's Club; RSVP of which she was past president and vice-president; and Josephine County Community Service where she served on the board. She also volunteered her time as a den mother and Brownie Girls Scout leader; Treasurer of Winema Girl Scout Council; Family Friends; Chamber of Commerce; and Children's Advocacy Center.
Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. Ret. Richard E. Siegman and wife Nicky of Valrico, FL; a daughter, Barbara Geiszler RN of Phoenix, OR; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Rusher and son-in-law Loren Geiszler.
Mijo Vucicevic, M.D.
Mijo Vucicevic, or "Dr. V" died peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughter on April 25, 2005 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was 75 years old.
Mijo was born in Croatia, Yugoslavia on September 29, 1929. In 1956 he married
Mirjana Danicic of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He completed medical school in Yugoslavia and they moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopa where he was a physician of internal medicine for many years. In 1969 he moved with his wife and daughter to Chicago, Illinois. Dr. V practiced medicine in Chicago for 30 years before relocating with his wife to Jacksonville, Oregon to be closer to their daughter and grand-daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Mirjana; daughter, Danielle Drosdick; and granddaughters Sasha and Ellen who now live in Medford, Oregon.
Mijo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, physician and friend. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many.
A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, April 29th at 2 p.m. Graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Patricia May Miller
Patricia "Patsy" Miller, 75, of Talent passed away Saturday (April 23, 2005).
Patsy was born May 23, 1929 in San Diego, California to Frank and Mary Gander. She married
Paul I. Miller on June 2nd 1950. She enjoyed being a pastor's wife, getting involved in many activities of the church.
She taught school for many years, many of those as a reading specialist in Sacramento, Alaska, and Oregon. Paul and Patsy spent 12 years as missionaries in the Kotzebue Sound remote area of Alaska. There she put her gardening skills to work and had one of the first gardens above the Arctic Circle. She also started a kindergarten for the children of the village where they lived. She helped start and taught in the first high school above the Arctic Circle. They moved to Talent in 1981.
She is survived by her husband, Paul of Talent; sister Marilyn Jenkins of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and David Krupp of Medford; son and daughter-in-law, David & Sarah Miller of Kotzebue, Alaska; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Peggy, preceded her in death.
Now Patsy is with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, whom she served faithfully.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Talent Friends Church.

Ralph Joseph Lauer Ralph Joseph Lauer, 61, of Central Point, died April 24, 2005, at The Orchards. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at the Applegate Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Everett Elder officiating.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1944 in Panama City, Panama. He married
Rose Davis on Dec. 31, 1974 in Anaheim, CA. They moved to Medford from Sacramento, CA in 1993.
Ralph was a researcher in oil and water.
He was a member of the Applegate Christian Fellowship.
Ralph enjoyed NFL football, reading, and listening to jazz.
He is survived by his wife. Rose of Central Point; three children, Joseph of Santa Maria, CA., Corey of Avenal CA., and Jaime of Central Point; three loving brothers, Paul of New Bedford, MA., Raymond of Los Angeles, CA., Jerry of New Bedford, MA; two loving sisters, Jeanne of Nashawa, NH, and Pauline of New Bedford, MA.

Robert 'Bob' B. Anderson
Dec. 27, 1934 - Apr. 20, 2005 Robert "Bob" Ben Anderson passed away April 20, 2005, at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Services were held at Trail Christian Fellowship by family and friends officiated by Pastor Don Holmes.
Bob grew up in South Dakota before moving out to Southern California where he work as an Aerospace Precision Mechanical Inspector for JPL and ITT. He inspected the first stage hydraulics systems and components for all the Apollo and Gemini rockets. After moving to Medford, Bob continued as Precision Mechanical Inspector for IMI/Corvus and then Litton.
The best place to find Bob would be out in his shop where he would be making something out of wood. Bob had a creative touch when it came to woodworking. The joy of his work showed in the gifts given to grandchildren and family. Bob's creative talent did not stop with wood. Before retiring, Bob took classes in graphic design and paint. His paintings were for self-enjoyment and family.
Bob is survived by his wife Leonda Anderson and children: David Anderson, Dawn Cardova, Charles Barnes, Dawn Wipf, Lisa Wojhan; and 17 grandchildren.
Russell Carl Ludwig
Russell Carl Ludwig was welcomed home into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on April 23, 2005. He was 89.
Russ was born July 5, 1915 in Alpena, Michigan to Frederich William Ludwig and Louise Trapp Ludwig.
He was a chemist and then an executive with The Dow Chemical Company for 37 years, primarily in Midland, Michigan.
Russ retired in 1973 to Central Point, Oregon to raise two young children and an amazing garden. The family moved to the Olympia area in 1984.
Russ enjoyed flowers and wished that you might think of him when the flowers bloom.
Russ is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, June; his daughter, Lisa and husband Tim Stults of Olympia; granddaughter, Anna of Olympia; son, Eric and fiance' Elizabeth Carosso of Seattle; sisters, Irma Marquardt and Betty Krueger of Alpena, Michigan. He was preceded in death by a daughter Sylvia Gilbert in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and two brothers, Roy of Houston, Texas and Earl of Augusta, Georgia.
A Memorial service celebrating Russ' life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1601 North St. SE, Olympia.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Russ' name.

Silas Burris
A graveside memorial service for Silas Burris will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 29, at the Eagle Point National cemetery.
Silas, 79, of Medford, died Sunday (April 24, 2005).
He was born in Briceville, TN.
Silas was a hunter, a fisherman and played the guitar. He loved the outdoors.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Cozo and Becky Lamas; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, and great-granddaughter Crystle Cozo.
William "Bill" Curtis Cope
William "Bill" Curtis Cope, 47, was born in Apple Valley, CA., February 11, 1958. He died in a car accident in New Mexico on April 13, 2005. Having returned to the Rogue Valley area after his retirement eight years ago, he lived in Williams, OR, for the last two years.
Bill graduated from Apple Valley High School in 1976, and joined the Army. His first duty station was at Fort Sill, OK, where he met his wife, also stationed there. He earned a degree in Aeronautics in 1984 from Victor Valley College during a break in service, and re-enlisted in 1986 after residing in Medford, OR, two years.
Bill was also stationed in Germany, Texas, Iraq, Hawaii and Virginia. His assignments took him to 37 different countries. He was a member of the Seventh Calvary (Custer's original unit) working as a helicopter crew chief, Stinger missile weapons inspector, and in Desert Storm, an air calvary forward scout and a helicopter inspector. He earned the Bronze Star for Heroism as well as five other medals during his tour in Desert Storm. He was a graves registration specialist in Germany and Hawaii. As part of the Central Identification Laboratory Hawaii (CILHI) 1994-1997, he participated as a recovery team leader, helping to locate, return and identify many MIA/POW remains from Southeast Asia. Bill retired from the Army in 1997 as a forensic anthropologist, proud to have served his country, especially so of his work with CILHI reuniting families with their missing loved ones.
Bill continued serving his country after his retirement through his involvement in service organizations. He was an active member of the Masons, Warren Lodge No. 10 AF&AM;, Jacksonville, and Hillah Shrine, Medford. He worked with the Young Marines and the Naval Sea Cadets providing instruction and mentoring to young people. Work with the army recruiters allowed him the privilege of participating in the Special Beauties Contests, acting as escort to handicapped young ladies of the Rogue Valley. Many hours of volunteer work at the Rehab Center in White City gave him a sense of accomplishment. He also participated in local holiday parades and ceremonies, especially those involving veterans. Memorial Day was a favorite; he drove military vehicles in the parades, led the honor guard at the Eagle Point National cemetery and participated in the wreath laying ceremony at Veterans Park.
He had an exuberant nature, an enthusiasm and energy for life that was infectious. Bill laughed often and with his wonderful sense of humor, lifted the spirits of those around him. To him, a stranger was just a friend he hadn't yet met. His strong sense of family guided his life and he will be forever missed. Bill is survived by his wife of 24 years, Terri; children, John Slater, Jodie Wolfe and William Cope of the Rogue Valley area, eight grandchildren (four here in the Rogue Valley and four in Spokane, WA), mother Shirley Pursley of Apple Valley, CA, father William Cope of Denison, TX; brother Chuck Chavez of Painesville, OH, sister Lynn Payne of San Bernardino, CA; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, as well as in-law families, Irene Corethers, Ken Corethers and wife Elizabeth, Kathy Fritz and husband Rick, Corrie Ellenburg of WA; Bill Wolfe, and Deana Malone.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Eagle Point National cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, OR. A remembrance gathering will be held at 1 p.m. at the Cultural Hall, Eagle Point Church of Latter-Day Saints on Crater Lake Highway (Highway 62) north of Linn Road.
