Irving Jaffee
The graveside service for Irving Jaffee was held Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the Jacksonville cemetery. Mr. Jaffee, 87, of Ashland, died Monday, December 6, 2004 at home.

He was born June 11, 1917 to Samuel and Sophie Jaffee at Detroit, Michigan where he was raised. Mr. Jaffee married the former Lila Barnett, who preceded him in death in 1989.

Mr. Jaffee lived in Mendocino County, California before moving to Ashland in 1988. He was active in the Growers Market selling New Sammy's Bread and was an active member of the Oak Knoll Golf Club and a member of Temple Emek Shalom.

Surviving are: his daughter, Charlene Rollins and her husband Vernon; a grandson Samuel Rollins (New Sammy) all of Talent; his son Kenneth Jaffee of Talent; a granddaughter Elizabeth Jaffee-Stafford and her husband Paul; a great-granddaughter Isabella of San Francisco; a granddaughter Rebecca Jaffee and her husband Jonathan Dearman; and two great-granddaughters Anika and Maya Dearman also of San Francisco.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Mildred Totten
Mildred, age 89 years, of Omaha, NE and born in Springfield, MA, died Monday, Dec. 6th, in Omaha.

She is survived by a son, Fred (Jane) Totten of Omaha; a daughter, Pat (Charles) Turner; four grandchildren, Jack and John Turner both of Ashland, Jim Totten of Denver, CO, and Julie (Tim) Galligher; and her great-grandson, Collin Galligher of Omaha. A memorial Service will be at 12 noon on Friday, Dec 10, at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Road, Omaha. Interment will be at Resurrection cemetery in Omaha.

Memorial contributions may be made to SOLIR-Southern Oregon Learning in Retirement, Extended Campus Programs, SOU, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. OR 97520.

Alfred Von Stein
Alfred Von Stein, 77, of Shady Cove, died Thursday (Dec. 9, 2004) at his home. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Janet Wilborn
Janet Wilborn, 58, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 8, 2004) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Mira Belt deSchweinitz
Dec. 4, 1913 - Dec. 8, 2004

Mira Belt deSchweinitz, 91, a life long resident of Salem, died December 8, 2004 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

She was born in Dallas, Oregon December 4, 1913, the daughter of Supreme Court Justice Harry Belt and Martha Paldanius Belt. She attended Salem schools and the University of Oregon.

On August 30, 1941 in Salem, she married Alex deSchweinitz, who preceded her in death in 1969.

Mrs. deSchweinitz was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf, loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Allan B. deSchweinitz of Klamath Falls, and George A. deSchweinitz of Medford; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother George Belt and sister Barbara Belt.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Home in Medford. At her request no service will be held.

Eugene Douglas Tillson
Eugene Douglas Tillson, 73, of White City, passed away on December 9, 2004, at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Frances Ruth Rhodes
Frances Ruth Rhodes, 96, of Grants Pass, formerly Ashland, died November 18, 2004 at the Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. Arrangements under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Mildred 'Millie' D. Barnes
Mildred "Millie" D. Barnes, 79, of Ashland, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at her home. Arrangements by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral and Cremation Center, Ashland.

Ruth M. Darzes
Ruth M. Darzes, age 80, of White City, died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Rachel E. Middleton
The funeral for Rachel Erb Middleton will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Olson of Bethel Assembly of God in Medford. The graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA.

Mrs. Middleton was born December 26, 1907 at Strathcona, Alberta, Canada. In 1934 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada she married Edward Erb who preceded her in death in 1977. In 1982 she married Albert Middleton who preceded her in death in 1999.

She lived in Modesto and Lodi, California for many years before moving to Ashland in 2000. She enjoyed homemaking and cooking and was a member of the Calvary Temple Assemblies of God in Modesto and the Westside Assembly of God in Lodi and attended Bethel Assembly of God in Medford.

Surviving are: one son, Lloyd Erb of Ashland; one step son Bob Middleton of Lodi, CA; one step-daughter Marge Tescher of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Assembly of God building fund, 1225 East McAndrews, Medford, OR 97504.

Robert Thompson Defenbaugh
Robert 'Bob' Defenbaugh died on November 24, 2004 in his home in Ashland, OR.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Defenbaugh; his son, Terry and wife Isabel of Bamberg, Germany; his son Mark of Phoenix, OR; and his seven grandchildren Kassie R., Sarah E., Patrick D., Marco D., Robert C., Mark A., and Rebecca P. Defenbaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, LoEdith (Thompson) and Charles Ernest Defenbaugh.

Bob Defenbaugh was born in Mount Ayr, IA on November 28, 1928. He spent his childhood and early school days there until moving to Los Angeles, CA where he graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1946. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Southern California in 1950.

He joined the U.S. Army and served in CA and Korea from 1950 until 1952. Upon his discharge, he ran his own restaurant in Brookings, OR until 1969 when he moved with his family to Ashland, OR and took a position as a Construction Supervisor. Upon completion of his degree in Professional Accounting in 1980, he started his own Accounting Firm, which he maintained until his death.

Bob enjoyed woodworking, cabinet making and fishing and had been a great Little League and Babe Ruth League Umpire for his boys. He also held a 50 year membership with the Elks.

A celebration of his life was held for the immediate family on Saturday.

Bob was a wise and loving husband, father and friend. He will be sorely missed by all.

Violet Mae Fink
Violet Mae Fink, 84, of Gold Hill, died Saturday morning, Nov. 27, 2004, surrounded by her husband and daughter, she passed peacefully in the home she loved, along the Rogue River. Previously a Concord, CA resident of 25 years, she was devoted to her children's and husband's lives.

She was active in the Concord Garden Club, was an avid gardener, loved cooking, fishing, gold panning, bowling, golfing and "floating the Rogue." She was specially fond of and proficient in sewing, knitting, and craft projects.

As well as being a gifted homemaker, she was employed by JC Pennys, H&R; Block and owned a beauty salon.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Geoffrey Fink of Gold Hill; daughter and son in law, Karen and Les Fullerton of Portland, OR; son Geoff Fink of Benicia, CA; two grandchildren, Natalie Fink, of Chico, CA and Miles Fink, ofBenicia, CA. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Gordon Fink. No memorial service is planned at this time.

Wm. Kenneth Nicholas
A private memorial service will be held for Wm. Kenneth Nicholas, 94, of Medford who died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004.

Mr. Nicholas was born June 16, 1910, in Plymouth, England to William Bolitho Nicholas and Tryphena Jane Hitchens. He married Ethel Lilly Wilkins on Dec. 15, 1934 in Denver, CO. He and Ethel moved to Medford in 1975 and were active in the Medford YMCA.

He is survived by his companion of many years, Mildred Mack, a son William Nicholas, four nieces, twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, wife Ethel in 1990 and son David in 2003.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens, Medford.

Harold F. Wolf
Harold F. Wolf, 94, of Talent, OR, died December 3, 2004 at the Ashland Community Hospital. Arrangements under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Kent Emmett Thomas
Kent Emmett Thomas, 73 (October 11, 1931), of Medford, died Saturday, Dec 4, 2004, at Waterford Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford. Arrangements by Memory Gardens Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.

Toni Porter
Antonia "Toni" Marquita Porter, 39 (February 22, 1965), of Medford, died Friday, Dec 3, 2004, in Jacksonville, following a motor vehicle accident. Arrangements by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Dennis Eugene Bourn
Dennis Eugene Bourn lived fifty-eight years, passed January 18th, 2005, at home in his son's arms. The reason of death, Gods calling.

He was born on July 6, 1946 in Medford. He graduated from Medford Senior High School. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1946 - 2005.

Driving truck was our Dad's passion. Dad started his driving career at age seventeen and began work for Plumley Inc. He worked twenty-seven years, took a break then worked for R.B. Browns for another thirteen years. In the course of that time Dad logged over 4, 500, 000 miles.

He was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club, playing in the 1972 club championship placing himself as a tournament winner. Dad also enjoyed Roller Hockey, and raced at the raceway at the Old Posse Fair Grounds (No. 118). He championed as a stock car driver. Photography was another passion he pursued. Between his sports & his hobbies he still had time to make his tribe.

Preceding Dad's departure were his parents Billie E. and Nellie C. Bourn, baby Bourn and his granddaughter Danielle. Blessed to live another eightteen years after his first heart attack.

Our father filled our hearts with many memories. Surviving family members include: Loving and forgiving ex-wives, Bobbie Kent and Debra Maya; caring sons, Gary Fichtner Jr., Dennis Bourn, Thomas Maya, Chase, & Blake Charlton; loving daughters, Trina Wallen, Denise, Crystal, and Maya Bourn, and Dixie Charlton; growing grandchildren, Gary III and Gabriel Fichtner, Desirae and Trisha Bourn, Skuylar Joslin, and Shyane Maya; leaving behind three brothers, Charles Bourn of White City, OR, Dana Bourn of Vancouver, WA, and Jerry Bourn of Salem, OR. Never forgetting all of our Dad's extended family & friends.

Services will be at at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at Grace Community Wesleyan Church. Pastor Kerry Rainey will officiate.

Mildred O. Leach Edison
Mildred Oma Leach Edison passed away on January 20, 2005 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon. She fought a valiant battle with cancer while remaining upbeat, supportive and encouraging to others.

Mildred was born in Provencal, Louisiana on February 19, 1928. She graduated Valedictorian from Natchitoches High School in 1945 and attended Northwestern College, graduating in 1964 with a BA and a MA Degree.

She was a college educator at both Northwestern State University and Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tenn. While attending a convention in Chicago, Illinois she met her husband Ed. They were married in San Mateo, California on October 8, 1970 and this began an adventurous life of travel and travel writing that took them around the world many times. They retired to Grass Valley, California and eventually to Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Oregon, her final stop for someone always on the go.

Mildred is survived by her husband of 34 years, Edward Edison; her children Hershel Corley Jr. of LaPlace, Louisiana; Brenda Bailey of San Mateo, California; Chester Corley, of Williana, Louisiana; her sister, Doris Condit of Delaware, Ohio and her grandchildren, Madeline Bailey of San Mateo, California and Christie Sue Forsythe of Jackson, TN., great-grandchildren Samantha and Jacob Forsythe of Jackson, TN.

Cherished memories of her will live on in the lives and hearts of all those whom she touched and all those who she left behind.

Viewing and services will be held at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Viewing will be on Saturday January 22 from 5- 9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 23, at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be at Fern Park Memorial cemetery.

Stella Dorothea Maiuri
Stella Dorothea Maiuri, beloved mother of Renard Maiuri and wife Lucille of Medford, Lorraine Uecker and Don Carlson of Kensington, CT, joined her Lord Thurs., Jan. 20, 2005.

Stella was born in New Bedford on Jan. 16, 1921. She moved to New York when very young then moved to Connecticut in 1946. She lived an exciting and interesting life including entertaining in Vaudeville with her parents Anna and Bennie LeBlanc. She also worked with the USO, worked with Bob Hope for the UNICEF organization and on the Miss World Pageants. She owned and operated restaurants, boutique women's apparel stores and a chain of modeling schools and agencies in New England. Her husband, Armand Vinti Maiuri preceeded her in death.

Grandma Maiuri is survived by nine grandchildren: Tiffany Kruppa of Mystic, CT, Sarah Crockett and her husband Rusty, Adam Barr and his wife Annette, Abra and Leah Maiuri, Nicole, Brady, Emily and Katie Smith, all of Medford. She had three great-grandchildren, Laura Elfstrum and Makayla Keith, both of Mystic, CT and Owen Crockett of Medford.

As she loved her family, so she was loved throughout her courageous fight with diabetes. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to National Kidney Foundation.

A memorial service will be held noon, Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.

James Churchill, 55, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2005) at his home. Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Mary Louise Arnold
Mary Louise Arnold, 94, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2005) in Medford.

The funeral Mass will be at 8:30 a.m. Mon. Jan. 24, 2005. at Sared Heart Caholic Church. A committal service will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors of Medford.

William Arlyn Roberts
William Arlyn Roberts, 83 (Aug. 12, 1921) died Friday (Jan. 21, 2005) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.
