Arthur Rafael Corbin
Arthur Rafael Corbin was born in Portland, OR on October 3, 1923, and was the oldest of six children born when Fred G. Corbin married
Martha M.P. Kalbus. First living in Portland, Arthur moved to Jacksonville in 1928 with his parents, and then to the Lower Applegate Valley in 1929.
Arthur contracted typhoid fever when about ten years of age and mom said he had a very high fever and almost died.
Arthur played trombone in the school band in Jacksonville, completing high school there.
Arthur, with his brothers and sisters, learned to work at home by attending to about three acres of Boysen, Logan, Young and strawberries, plus garden with corn, etc. We had regular customers for the berries, so summers were busy times. Arthur soon was the delivery person and did well.
Arthur's first car was a 1927 Model T Ford; he would take his brothers and sisters for rides occasionally, which they enjoyed.
Arthur was a good, helpful, and caring brother and son to his family, always ready to help if he was needed anywhere.
Arthur worked at various employment such as farming, pear packing houses, and lumber mills, but enjoyed especially working in the woods and logging industry. Later in life, Arthur moved back to Portland, OR working at the Heathman Hotel for quite awhile.
Arthur enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives in north and South Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota. Arthur loved life, and we, his family will sincerely miss Arthur, but we know he was a Christian and is now enjoying a far greater joy in his heavenly home near our beloved mom and other dear family members who have gone there before him. Thank God we can all have real joy in knowing of this blessed assurance awaiting us all too who still remain on this earth for but a very brief period of time remaining.
A brief graveside service will be held at Jacksonville Cemetary on Friday, Dec. 3rd 2:00 p.m., and a reception for anyone who knew Arthur or his family will be at 2:45 p.m., Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1020 E. Main Street, Medford.
