John Price Ernst
John Price Ernst of Medford, Oregon, passed away October 16, 2004, at the Anna Maria Creekside. He was a devout Christian.
He was born July 29, 1920 in Oakley, Kansas to Dora Price and John LeRoy Ernst. He grew up in St. Paul, MN.
He married
Carolyn McVay Winter on June 12, 1954, in Burlingame, CA.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He also attended McAllister Conservatory in St. Paul and was an accomplished musician. He played the organ, piano, and many brass instruments.
His career spanned 34 years at Chief Mechanical Engineer for Kaiser Engineers in Oakland. His accomplishments included worldwide designs and building supervision of many power plants, hospitals and churches. He designed and supervised the building of Mission Control in Houston, TX. Henry J. Kaiser called him his "little genius with the crew cut." John and Carol retired to Ashland in 1977. He and Carol traveled extensively in the U.S. with their children, and after retirement, traveled together around the world many times. He was active in his church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and spent 20 years as a volunteer for the Ashland Chamber of Commerce in the information booth by Lithia Park. He supported his church as well as the Gospel Mission in Medford. He was a Gideon.
His wife of the residence and three children; Kevin Ernst of Lower Lake, CA; Meredith Crellin of Medford, and Leslie Crellin of Lone Pine, CA; his sister, Dorothy Torgergen of Claremont, CA and a large extended family, survive him.
A memorial service will be held at the Anna Maria Creekside of Medford at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 26th.

Leland Carns Brandon
Leland Brandon was born July 20, 1910 in Kingsley, IA., living most of his adult life in Medford, OR.
Leland married
Leona May Massie of Grants Pass, OR. in 1951, who preceeded him in death. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Alicia Schick and grandson, George Funderburg of Eugene, OR; a sister, Irene Willer, of Jackson, WI., a brother, Lavern Bann, of Kingsley, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brandon served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII from 1941 to 1945 in Europe. While serving, he was a mechanic in the motor pool. He spent most of his adult life as a mechanic for Dick Knight Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Medford. OR.
A graveside service is planned at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m.

Cornelia R. Jones
Cornelia R. Jones, 83, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (Oct. 19, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. At her request no services are planned.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1920 in North Bend/ Coos Bay area to Ralph and Ethel Hilkey. On May 24, 1941 she married
Willie Jones who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jones was a long time TOPS member.
She enjoyed canning, and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include, her daughter, Mary Benjamin; her son Willie Jones, Jr.; her grandchildren, Mike Beerli, Tanya Henderson, Marc and Matt Jones, and Alice Mitchell; and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at the ICU Dept. of the Rogue Valley Medical Memorial Hospital for all their kindness.
Donald Strain
Donald Strain, 62, of Eagle Point, died Oct. 15, 2004 surrounded by his loved ones. Private services will be held.
He was a resident of the Rogue Valley for 20 years. During that time he worked for the forestry, but was better known as a talented musician and well-loved astrologer.
Don's greatest joys in life were his music, playing guitar, the Oregon mountains and coast, and his many friends.
He is survived by his sisters, Elsie Kelser, Alma Parris; his cousin, Johnny Meeks all of South Carolina; his best friends, Susan Wakefield, Chuck Pierce, Joe D'Amata; and his many other Oregon friends.
We'd like to thank everyone for their loving thoughts and kindness during his illness.
Duane 'Duffy' Konopasek
Duane "Duffy" Konopasek, 78, of Medford died Monday (Oct. 18, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.
Patricia Thompson Alley
Patricia Thompson Alley died in her home on October 20, 2004. Private family services will be held.
She was born in Central Point on St. Patrick's Day, 1919, the daughter of William A. and Edith Fish Thompson.
Mrs. Alley attended the Willow Springs and Valley schools and graduated from Phoenix High School. After graduating she was employed in the Jackson County Clerk's office and was head teller at the Medford branch of U.S. Bank.
During the Second World War she was a regular volunteer at the Wing Inn Canteen at the Medford airport. In 1947 she married
Frank R. Alley, Jr.
She was a long-time member of the Rogue Valley Country Club, the Colony Club, and was a founding member of the Gold Diggers of the Southern Oregon Historical Society.
She is survived by three sons, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and her sister, Mrs. R.A. Naumes of Medford. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter.

Rosary Mary Trombino
The cryptside service for Rosary Mary Trombino will be on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Memory Gardens Memorial Park with Paul Hagedorn, Chaplain of Providence Hospice.
Mrs. Trombino, 83, of Medford, died Friday, October 15, 2004. She was born Aug. 21, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY. She had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1974, moving here from Sunland, CA. Her parents, Rose and Joseph Trombino, immigrated from Italy.
She belonged to the YMCA and enjoyed swimming and shopping. She worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII.
Survivors include: two nieces, Cerise and Rob Stephens of Ashland and Lucienne and Ken Baughman of Medford. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Sal Trombino.

BETTY G. WILSON
Betty G. Wilson, Ashland, died 9/27/04, at age 95, ending a loving, creative, effective life. Daughter Denise Miller (Bob), granddaughters Logan Miller & Samantha Miller Metheny (Steve), Minto Miller Thorsen (Jack), & great-granddaughter Teighe Thorsen were with her. She is survived by them, grandson Roc Miller (Sylmar, CA) great-grandson Graham Thorsen (Grace) & their son Elijah (Ashland).
Born Veta Elizabeth Geddes in Tacoma, WA on 4/19/09, Betty spent her early years there & in Seattle, moving to Beverly Hills with her family in 1915. She attended school at the early motion pictures studios where her mother taught, & appeared in many films.
Betty sang with the Los Angeles & Oakland Light Opera Companies, before & after her marriage to Robert Armour Wilson in 1935. Her beloved husband died in 1989. The daughter, sister & granddaughter of musicians, she & her family were also soloists at St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Hollywood for many years. Betty sang non-professionally & for 3 decades led & supported the Opera Reading Club of Hollywood. Many of her descendants are also musicians.
An abiding interest in organizations & ways to promote voter education & world peace led her to study political science, history, & economics at USC & UCLA. She was a delegate to the formative meetings of the United Nations in San Francisco in 1944 & established chapters of the American Association for the United Nations (now UNA-USA) in Westwood & Palos Verdes, CA & also ran the AAUN office in Beverly Hills.
After she & Bob followed their daughter's family to Ashland in 1976, & Denise into the League of Women Voters, Betty became president of the tiny Ashland Chapter. Her effective leadership led to national recognition for achieving the greatest growth of any League chapter in the entire United States, for 2 years in a row. She remained active with both League & UNA-USA until she was 90.
Betty & Bob designed & built or remodeled several commercial properties & houses. With the help of their daughter's family & many friends they created a warm, welcoming home in Ashland which they joyfully shared as they had those in Manhattan Beach, Palo Verdes & Los Angeles, CA. Betty's great gifts for family, music, friendship & engagement in the organizations whose goals she supported so passionately gave birth to many life-long relationships which enriched her life & those of her family members.
Betty's family wish to thank all the dedicated souls who helped us care for her in her last years; Marilyn Hildreth, Grace Thorsen, Taylin Rama, Marty & Lolita Bell & her family, & the gentle Providence Hospice team of Marcia North, Leslie Mehaffey, Christine Payne, Laurie Ann Hunter & David Campbell. A memorial service will be held at the Ashland First Presbyterian Church on October 16, 2004 at 11AM. A reception at home will follow. Those who care to remember Betty with gifts may send contributions in her honor to the Ashland Chapters of the League of Women Voters, UNA-USA of Southern Oregon, or the R.V. Symphony Orchestra.
Marvin L. Ogg
A funeral service for Marvin Lee Ogg, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 at the Jerome Prairie Bible Church, 2564 Walnut Ave., Grants Pass. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Jerome Prairie Bible Church.
Mr. Ogg, 65, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, (Oct. 3, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born on May 12, 1939 in Glendale, CA to Frank and Beaulah Ogg. On March 15, 1985 in Glendale, AZ he married
the former Betty Winslow who survives.
Mr. Ogg retired from Johnson Pet-Dor in 1997.
Survivors include his wife Betty Jo of Grants Pass; his son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Kelly Ogg; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and D.J. Moss; step-sons; Mark Winslow, Greg Winslow and his wife Janene, Rick Winslow and his wife Colleen; nine grandchildren, Lucas and Justin Ogg, Alyssa Moss, Tatum, Rex, Tori and Kellen Winslow, Lauren and Ryan Crissman; three more grandchildren on the way, one from Melanie and D.J. Moss due in November, and twins from Rick and Colleen Winslow due early next year.; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bob Manasco; one niece, Susan Robison and her husband Chris; and one nephew, Scott Manasco.

Mary Vernice "Dee Dee" Hammack
Dee Dee passed from this life Sept. 26, 2004 in Medford, Oregon at the home of the children of her heart Donald and Shirley Fichtner Dempsey. Born 04/08/1915 in West Virginia to Manifried and Mary Catherine (Carver) Elliott. Losing her father at a very young age, her mother moved the family to Clarksville, PA. where she finished school. She received her nursing degree in Pittsburgh, PA, Later moving to Medford/Yreka working as a Private duty nurse. 01/04/1959 Dee Dee married
Herman Hammack of Yreka and they made Yreka their home. Dee Dee continued her nursing and prayer ministry not accepting compensation. Having the gift of healing, she went wherever friend or family needed her. Having a intuitive mind, she believed God guided her to those who needed her services or the comfort of her presence. Dee Dee had a special affinity with animals and she and Herman loved their dogs, all name Patsy, and the cats that occasionally resided with them. Birds flocked to her yard; all creatures were respected, spider and hornet nests left alone.
Dee Dee spent 43 wonderful loving years with Herman, always together, fishing, hunting, exploring new territory. A student of Unity, she was an active member of Retired Public Employees Association of California, California State Retirees, Yreka #1980 BPOE Life Membership.
preceded in death by brothers Howard and Clarence, sister Jessie Jean Williams, First Husband Louis Gillilend, Second Husband Herman Hammack, Son James Gillilend, who died in his teens, and her parents.
A celebration of Dee Dee's life will be held October 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. at BPOE Lodge, 332 W. Miner, Yreka with reception. All are invited.

Janet Kathryn Williams
Janet passed away at her Ashland, Oregon home on Sunday, September 26th, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Janet was born near Plum City, Wisconsin, to Lawrence "Jack" and Nora Lewis on August 9th, 1939. In 1949, the Lewises moved to Roseburg, Oregon where Janet was 1957 class valedictorian, a tennis team member, and head drum majorette at Roseburg High School. She met her husband Dave in 1960 while both did summer work at Crater Lake National Park. They married
on October 20, 1962.
Janet attended the University of Oregon and Scotland's Edinburgh University, earning a BA in History at the former in 1962. She later earned a Master's Degree in School Administration at the University of San Francisco. She began her teaching career at Woodrow Wilson Junior High in Eugene, Oregon, and continued her teaching and administrative work at public and private schools after a 1965 move to Concord, and later Walnut Creek, California.
After moving in retirement to Ashland, Oregon in 1995, Janet served as President of the Tudor Guild (a support group for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival) and the local chapter of the American Association of University Women. She also served as a Director of the Ashland Food Bank. She taught a genealogy class for the Southern Oregon Learning Center in Retirement at Southern Oregon University.
She was active in the First United Methodist Church, the Lithia Ladies Investment Club, bridge groups, and book clubs. She volunteered at Ashland High School, and sang and helped produce shows with a local Sweet Adelines chapter.
Janet gave time and love tirelessly to family, friends and community. She traveled widely with her husband and loved to cook, host parties, and talk about her children and grandchildren.
Janet is survived by her husband David F. Williams of 42 years, mother Nora Lewis, sister Evelyn Carlson, sons John and James Williams, daughter Kathryn Williams, grandsons Jackson, Henry, and Zachary Williams, and granddaughter Jenna Williams.
Janet's memorial service will be held at Ashland's First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 9, 2004, at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may contribute to a perpetual scholarship fund to be established by Janet's family. Checks may be made payable to the Southern Oregon University Foundation, at SOU Foundation Office, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd, Ashland OR 97520, with a notation on the check "In Memory of Janet K. Williams".
Henry Ferrell Squyres
The graveside service for Henry Ferrell Squyres will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pastor Mike Franell of Lozier Lane Baptist Church will officiate.
Mr. Squyres, 90, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 2004).
He was born March 27, 1914 in Big Springs, TX. In 1934 in Texas, he married
Lou Ella Woodson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1964 from El Monte, CA.
Mr. Squyres had been a long time employee of Sears, retiring in 1973.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, reading his Bible and attending Lozier Lane Baptist Church, where he was a member.
Survivors include: his wife, Lou Ella; four sons, Henry "Parks" of Medford; Phil of Grants Pass; Ferrell of Phoenix, OR; Jim of Denver, CO; a sister, Flora Bell Engle of Eugene, OR; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
