Billie P. Smith
Billie P. Smith, 87, of Medford, died July 22, 2004 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Eagle Point National cemetery. Omited from a prior obituary, Mrs.Smith was also a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.

Gloria Elaine Flogstad
A memorial service for Gloria Elaine Flogstad will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at South Albany Community Church in Albany.

Mrs. Flogstad, 78, of Albany (formerly of Medford) died Thursday (Sept. 16, 2004) in Albany.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1926 in Willow Lake S.D. to George and Grace (Harrington) Riter. On May 9, 1952 in Omaha, NE she married Sherman Paul Flogstad who survives.

Mrs. Flogstad was a member of the Southwest Community Church in Albany.

She enjoyed crafts, traveling and reading.

In addition to her husband survivors include: a son, Mark and his wife Karen Flogstad of Albany; a daughter, Pamela Hoffine and her husband Rick of Junction City; a brother, Gordon Riter of Richardson, Texas; a sister Olive LaMont of Willow Lake, SD; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Englands Memorial Chapel, Eugene.

Irving A. Mirick
1910-2004

A Memorial Celebration will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Medford on September 24, 2004 at 1:30 p.m.

Mr. Mirick was born in Huron, South Dakota and died in Medford, Oregon. He was graduated from Upper Iowa University, majoring in biology and physical education. Later he received a degree of Master of Arts with a music major from Iowa Music School. In 1942, he moved to Ashland Oregon with his wife Naomi and son Keith, and then to Medford in 1945.

Irv was Director of Instrumental Music for the Medford Schools from 1945 to 1974. He always derived great pleasure from his teaching career, the challenges of both marching and concert bands and relationships with young people. Some of his proudest moments were performances of the bands in San Francisco and Victoria, BC., as well as the band shows in the Medford High School Stadium. Even after his retirement, he returned many times to direct the band at half-time for Homecoming. His last appearance was 2003. He played in local community groups and directed the Southern Oregon Men's Band and the Hillah Temple Shrine Band for 20 years.

Irv was optimistic and enthusiastic about his life, devoted to his family, gratified with his music accomplishments, dedicated to his golf game, and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in the southern Oregon countryside. Irv loved the Medford community and participated in several philanthropic organizations including Kiwanis and the Hillah Shrine Temple. He and his wife were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife and son, and survived by his grandsons, Grant Mirick of Tonasket, WA, Tim Mirick of Seattle, WA, and their families including 6 grandchildren.

The family requests that remembrances be made to The Irv Mirick Memorial Trust which has been established for the purpose of furthering musical excellence for participants of the Medford High School Music Program. This trust has been created by the Mirick family to honor Irv Mirick's 29 years of leadership in music education in the Medford schools and his active role in the music community of Medford and the Northwest. Funds from the Trust will be awarded to deserving students to advance their music education. The family will welcome and greatly appreciate community participation and support for this scholarship endeavor in his memory.

Jack E. Barr
Jan. 12, 1917 - Sept. 10, 2004

A private military memorial service for Jack E. Barr was held at Willamette National Cemetary in Portland, OR.

Jack was born in Hillsboro, OR on Jan. 12, 1917 to Frank and Bessie Barr. He moved to Medford, OR after high school and remained there for most of his life.

During WW II he was a Thunderbolt in the Army's 11th Armored Division. Jack helped liberate more than 16, 000 prisoners from the Mauthausen Concentration Camps located outside Linz, Germany. Jack was called back to the service during the Korean War. On the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the Concentration Camps, Jack was honored by the Holocaust Center of Northern Calif. with a medal.

Jack spent most of his life in southern Oregon where he owned his own men's store in Grants Pass. He later went to work as a manager for Barker's Men's Store in Medford. Jack was an avid bridge player and earned his "Life Masters" in duplicate bridge. He organized the first duplicate bridge group in Grants Pass, OR. Jack's other love was jazz music. He owned a wonderful collection of jazz Albums.

Jack is survived by his wife, Fay J. Barr of Salem, OR; his daughters, Kathleen Carroll of Hillsboro, OR, and Sally Lafette of West Linn, OR; his sons, Jack Barr of North Carolina, and David Barr of Portland, OR; step-daughters, Maureen Myers of Salem ; Leslie Pickett of Seattle; and Marcia Cracker of Paradise, CA; his sister, Dorothy Throckmorton of Hillsboro, OR; and seven grandchildren.

Julia Ruth Beam
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Julia Ruth Beam will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 715 W. Main St., Medford. Dr. Gary Clark of St. John's Lutheran Church, Eagle Point, will officiate .

Mrs. Beam, 79, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.

She was born on July 28, 1925 in White Hall, MT to Raymond and Ruth (Broadbent) Huntley. On Aug. 30, 1944 in Stevenson, WA she married Kenneth J. Beam who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972.

Mrs. Beam attended Montana State University.

She worked as a business woman and housewife.

Mrs. Beam enjoyed gardening, crafts and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband survivors include: two sons, Joseph W. and Edward S.; a daughter, Jacqueline R. Gramcko; a sister Merle Huntley; a brother, Raymond Huntley; and grandchildren: Michael Beam, Laura Herman (Michael) and Casey Gramcko. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Hugh, Gene and Phil.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris, Medford.

Lois Jeanette Vaughn
Lois Jeanette Vaughn, 82, of Jacksonville, died September 14, 2004 in Bandon. A private family celebration of life will be held.

She was born June 3, 1922, in Palestine, IL. to parents John and Edna Crawford. Lois was married to Robert Vaughn Sr., for 55 years, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Jacksonville Assembly of God. She was a woman of prayer.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Vaughn Jr. of Central Point, Terry Vaughn of Jacksonville, and John Vaughn of Central Point; her daughter, Patricia Wickstrom of Bandon; sister, Dorothy Pitts of Santa Maria, CA; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Wesley R. Heavilin
The funeral service for Wesley Raymond Heavilin will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel. Committal will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Heavilin, 101, of Medford, was born Sept. 5, 1903 in Adera County, Missouri.

In 1906, his family moved to Oregon by way of the Klamath River by covered wagon. He moved to Medford in 1945, where he worked for many years in the logging and mill industry.

Wesley will always be remembered for his spirit of generosity and hospitality. He gave God thanks everyday for health, family and friends. He was faithful to the house of God.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy, who he married in 1972; a daughter, Beverly Ann Powel; a brother, Oral "Slim" Ralph Heavilin. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil Cleo, Harry Howard, Harold Leon and Milton Lou.

David A. Collett
David A. Collett, 67, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Three Rivers Community Hospital. No services will be held.

Harold "Champy" McCollum
Harold "Champy" McCollum, 89, of Medford, died Fri., Sept. 17, 2004 in Medford. The Funeral Service will be held Tues., Sept. 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Faith Church in Medford. Visitation will be Monday from 3-7 p.m. at Conger-Morris Funeral Home in Medford.

Donald R. Gordon
Donald R. Gordon, 64, died Wednesday (Oct. 6, 2004) at Providence Medical Center. Arrangements: Rouge Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Kenneth Vernon Wald
April 13, 1942- Sept. 14, 2004 Ken spent much of his childhood in the Rogue Valley and graduated with honors from S.O.U. He was known in the Native American community as Stonehorse Weeks.

Stony was a respected Medicine Man in the Warm Springs Nation.

A private memorial will be held at his families home in Welches, OR. For more information regarding his final entombment, please call 541-621-9984.

Charles W. Holden
Aug. 1, 1926 - Oct. 2, 2004

Charles Holden died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, doing what he loved to do best, racing his 350 cc go-kart at Portland International Race Track. Mr. Holden was 78 years old, and has been racing karts for almost 50 years. It was his passion. He had many championships and placements over the years. Even when he didn't win, he couldn't wait for the next race. In addition to karting he was an active member and loved to fly with the Rogue Eagle Recreational Aviation Flying Club (EAA) of Medford.

In 1955 he moved his family to California, where he opened his own business called, Aircraft Component Repair (ACR in Sunland, CA), and serviced all the major airlines. He ran a successful business and retired after only 12 years.

His loving wife Juanita Holden passed away 1½ years ago and is resting at Siskiyou Memorial Park, where he will be joining her.

Mr. Holden was born in Old Castle, Ontairo, Canada in Essex County and is survived by his only brother Lt. Col. Ronald Holden of Windsor, Canada; his eight children, Bonnie Brunk of Los Banos, CA, Timothy Holden of Sonora, CA; Susan Aaron of Tracy, CA, Linda Pope of Los Banos, CA, Lisa Holden-Serpa of San Jose, CA; Judy Eaton of Grants Pass, OR, Barry Cooper of Anchorage, AK, Clarice Cooper of Tehachapi, CA; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and his 92 year old mother-in-law Charlotte R. Aubin of Sarina, Ontario, Canada.

Viewing services for Charles Holden will be Friday night, Oct. 8, from 6 to 8 pm., and services will be held on Oct. 9, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Perl Funeral Home, Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford. 772-5488.

Delmar 'Del' A. Hubbard
The funeral services for Delmar "Del" A. Hubbard will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Bethel Church in Medford, with Pastor Tim Olson officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Del, 92, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at his home. He was born Oct. 14, 1911 in Ashland, OR, the son of Arthur S. and Dora L. (Long) Hubbard. On Mar. 15, 1934 in Ashland, he married Goldie Wilson.

He spent 35 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA as a quarterman rigger in shop 72. He retired in 1964. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, the outdoors and his grandchildren. He spent his retirement with his family, neighbors and friends, and was always there to help them in anyway he could.

Survivors in addition to his wife Goldie include: a son, Joe Hubbard and wife Julie of Jacksonville; three daughters, Evelyn Sherman and her husband Jack, Carol Breedlove and Cindy Hess all of Medford; seven grandchildren, Gina Reece, Janell Carpenter, Julie Davis, Kaley Olson, Brad, Scott and Sarah Hubbard; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Iris Maxwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Hospice, 2528 Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504 or the Alzheimer Association, So. Oregon Chapter, 2860 State St., Medford, OR 97504.

Visitation will be on Saturday for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Bellinger and Arnold Lane.

Ethel E. 'Betty' Barnett
Ethel "Betty" Barnett died peacefully September 29, 2004.

She was born in Syracuse, New York on May 3, 1923.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bill M. Barnett of Shady Cove, OR; one son, Wm. Schneider; and three daughters, Valerie Anderson, Bondy Pastorino Watson, Dorothy Warfe Boyd; and three grandchildren.

Betty spent several years in Southern California where she was in the Nurse Corps during WW II, then moved to Stockton, California, where she was a real estate broker, and active in the Stockton Theater Group. Later she and her husband and Dorothy moved to Lake of the Pines near Auburn, California, where they lived for 25 years. She was active in Lake of the Pines Association and the local golf group.

In 1996, Betty and her husband moved to Shady Cove. She was active in the Cedar Links Golf group in Medford. She had been in the Rosetta Senior Living Home for several months prior to her death.

She will be buried at the Eagle Point Veterans cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Hanns Meier
Hanns Meier, 89, of Medford, died Sept. 4, 2004.

He was born on Jan. 22, 1915, the youngest son in a family of nine children to Carl and Caroline Meier.

He was a lifelong resident of the Rogue Valley attending Oak Grove Elementary and graduating from Medford Senior High in 1932.

In 1940 he married Maxine Boone of Jacksonville. Together they raised two children, a son Douglas was born in 1941 and a daughter Gretchen was born in 1944.

As a young man he was a baker for Fluhers Bakery and a graphic artist for Kay Paper Co. He was a meter reader for Pacific Power until his retirement in 1978.

Mr. Meier was a 50-year member of the local electrical worker's union and a member of Pacific Power Quarter Century Club.

His son Douglas died in 1963 as a result of a Naval air accident. His wife Maxine died in 1969.

Mr. Meier was also preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

He is survived by his beloved family, daughter and son, Gretchen and Ted DeFord; granddaughter and grandson, Courtney and Rudy Driscoll and great-grandsons, Wyatt and Cooper. He is also survived by a heart daughter, Kathi Ryan; and her daughters Hollie and Erica; a sister; four nieces; five nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.

At his request no service is planned.
