A community service in memory of Neil Richardson will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Helman School Courtyard, 705 Helman St., Ashland.
Mr. Richardson, who died earlier this month, served as principal of the school from 1967 until his retirement in 1998.

Carrie M. Foster
Carrie Marguerite Foster, 94, died at her home, Monday (Nov. 1, 2004) with her loving family at her side. Private family services will be held at Queens of Heaven cemetery in Salinas, CA.
She was born April 18, 1910 in Meridian, CA to George and Sarah Rockholt. On June 30, 1928 in Reno, she married
Delbert J. Foster, who died in 1981. They made their home in Salinas, CA, from 1928 until 1972, when they retired to Medford.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Wilson of Medford; two grandsons, Carey Foster of Central Point and George Biddle of Phoenix, OR; and five great-grandchildren.
Dorothy I. Forrest

Dottie Ekstrom
Dottie Ekstrom of Eugene (formerly of Ashland) died Oct. 30, at the age of 80.
She was born on May 5, 1924 in Almena, KA to Oliver and Florence (Hines) Green.
She lived in the Grants Pass area from 1937 to 1942, when she graduated from Grants Pass High School. She lived in Portland, OR from 1942 to 1951, Ashland from 1951 to 1956, Millbrae, CA from 1956 to 1967, and Los Angeles from 1967 to 1979 when she moved to Eugene. She married
Gordon Ekstrom in Portland on Oct. 19, 1946. He died June 8, 1991.
She enjoyed playing cards, music, theater, and lunch with friends.
Survivors include; two brothers, Loyal Green of Grants Pass and Richard E. Green of Eugene.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Private burial will be at Mountain View cemetery, Ashland.

Elaine Summers
Elaine Summers, 55, passed away October 27, 2004 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Elaine was born in Andover NY on December 7, 1946 to Alice Shaw and Wellman Burch, deceased. She married
Chet Summers and together they had two girls, Tasha and Cortney. She was a private church-school teacher for most of her life. Elaine is survived by a loving family including her sister Kathleen Burch and brother Wellman Burch, Jr. of Medford, OR and many other brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. The family held a private service on Saturday, October 31 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
George 'Crazy Fox' Smith
George "Crazy Fox" Smith, 56, of Sunny Valley, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Sat. Nov. 6, 2004 at the corner of Hamilton Road and Highway 238 in Ruch. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass, are in charge of the arrangements.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1948 in Wentworth, New Hampshire. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He completed the 8th grade and later completed machinist and heavy equipment school. On March 15, 2003 he remarried
the love of his life, Brenda M. Webb at McKee Bridge, OR.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Bradford Bad Asses Motorcycle Club and the Applegate A.H's No. 69.
He enjoyed making pipes, knives, jewelry and many other crafty things.
In addition to his wife, Brenda M. Smith of Sunny Valley, survivors include, his daughter Wendy Sandvig and her husband Scott; a step-daughter, Lori Brock; and step-son Brock Webb; his mother Gwendolyn B. DeForrest; his sister, Sheila Hornocker and husband Bill; a brother, John Smith and his wife Sandy; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; his nephews and many friends and their children. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Smith; his sister, Therese Harrison; and step-father, George "White Bear" DeForrest.
James L. Moffet
James L. Moffet died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He peacefully went to meet his Lord after a long struggle with liver disease.
Jim was born Nov. 16, 1939 in Breckenridge, MB to Arlen and Marcella Moffet. He lived and attended schools in Wahpeton, ND.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Jim moved Oregon in 1966 and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, motorcycle riding and four wheeling with his Jeep club. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was especially proud of his boys in their business of Oregon Motorcycle Adventures.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Central Point. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, Jeff of Central Point and Brent of Medford; his former wife Audrey Schmidt; and a granddaughter, Rili Rae Moffet.

Mary 'Peg' Meskimen
Mary "Peg" Meskimen passed away at the age of 79.
She was born on St Valentines day February 14, 1925 and passed away on All Saints Day, November 1, 2004. In 1942, she married
Ronald C. Meskimen. Peg was the loving mother to six children who were raised in Redwood City, CA and Southern Oregon. She also had eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and her beloved canine companion Punkin.
Peg lived in Grants Pass and Williams and retired from Oregon Technical Products (OTP) in 1989 after 14 years of service.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel now on Redwood Highway in Grants Pass. Pastor Ron Hayworth will preside over graveside services on Thursday, November 4 at 2 p.m.
Surviving family include her siblings Gloria and Ron Magee of Cupertino, California and Jay and Bev Youtsey, as well as her children and their spouses James and Karen and Les and Jill of Truckee, California; Glen of Seattle Washington; Ronnie and Pat Rowland and Scott and Carrie of Medford; Troy and Vanessa of Yuba City, California.
In addition to her family, her interests included gardening, quilting, knitting and holiday preparations.

Harry A. Laatsch
A memorial service for Harry A. Laatsch will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at St. Peter Luteran Church, Medford.
Mr. Laatsch, 96, of Shady Cove, died Wednesday, (Oct. 27, 2004) resulting from a heart attack on Sunday, Oct. 24.
He was born May 27, 1908, in Merrill, Wisconsin, to Fred and Mary Laatsch. In 1930 he married
Christine Anna Vandre in Merrill and this marriage lasted 66 years. She died in 1997, he lived alone, and was never on any medication.
The family moved to Colorado in 1944 and he worked at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal for two years. He was a diesel mechanic and worked in oil fields in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah until he retired. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Medford.
Survivors are a son, Don of Eagle Point; two brothers, Bill of Austin, Texas and Pete of Casper, Wyoming; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, James, 1953, and Gordon, 1984, two sisters and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to to St. Peter's Elders fund.

Sally Ann Widmer
Sally Ann Widmer (Devers) died Tuesday the 26th at 2:40 p.m. in the arms of her loving and ever-faithful husband and surrounded by her sons and daughters-in-law. She peacefully went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a long illness.
Sally was born October 11th, 1935 in Portland, OR to Blaine and Margaret Devers. She attended The Madeleine Catholic grade school and had fond memories of the Madeleine and her classmates. Sally and her family then moved to Redding, CA, where she attended Shasta High School for two years. Her family then moved to Medford, OR where she graduated from Medford High School. Sally continued her education at Southern Oregon College, graduating with a teaching degree in elementary education. She subsequently taught for several years within the Medford School District, including three years at Jacksonville Elementary School and two years at Washington Elementary School. Her teaching years also included one year within the Eugene School District. She was admired by pupils and respected by parents and faculty.
Sally married
Arnold in 1960 and enjoyed 44 years of wedded life. After the birth of her third son, she began her second career as a full time stay-at-home mom and considered the raising of her three sons the crowning achievement in her life. She was extremely proud of her sons Patrick (Attorney, Bend), Mike (Cardiologist, Bend), and Joe (Project Manager Adidas International, Portland).
Sally enjoyed traveling, playing with her grandchildren, and watching classic movies. She spent many happy volunteer hours as Room Mother and Cub Scout Den Mother. She and Arnold generously supported many charities. She was proud of her Catholic heritage and was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish.
Sally was a wonderful person, wife, mother and grandmother and dearly loved. Her life was one of love, faith, generosity, sacrifice and service. Her legacy of love will live on.
In addition to her husband and three sons she is survived by her daughters-in-law Patti (Patrick), Jane (Mike), and Nancy (Joe); five grandchildren Michael, Jack, Teddy, Alex and Bobby; and sister Patricia Eldredge (Arcadia, CA). She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass will be held November 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church followed by a reception in the Parish Hall and a graveside committal service at Siskiyou Memorial Park at 3:00 p.m. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN., Sacred Heart Grade School in Medford, OR or Hospice of Bend-LaPine, 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend, OR 97701.

Amy Louise Hodges Lamb
Amy Louise Hodges Lamb born September 3, 1902 and died peacefully on October 23, 2004.
Louise was born in Clarendon, Texas to Newbern Thomas and Felda Hodges. She attended schools in McClain and Graham, Texas before moving to Medford, Oregon in 1918. She graduated Medford High School in 1920.
She was a member of Reames Chapter No. 66 Eastern Star in Medford.
Louise went on to take classes at the University of Washington and received a degree in teaching from California State Teachers College in San Jose, CA. She taught school in Ruch, Oregon as well as Oakland, CA. She married
Thomas Lamb in 1934 and they built their home in the Chapman Park area of Corte Madera in 1935. She and Tom enjoyed the outdoors together taking many trips to Yosemite and the Monterey area. When Thomas died in 1943, Louise went on to have a very successful career with the Mutual of New York Insurance Company. She was one of the first women to be hired as an agent.
She lived in her home she loved so much for 64 years. She moved in 1998 to an assisted living facility in Santa Rosa and lived there for the remainder of her life. She passed away in her sleep at the age of 102 from congestive heart failure.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband; both her parents; a brother, Newbern Trevor Hodges; and a great niece Linda Louise Hodges of Medford OR. Louise is survived by two nephews, Donald Hodges of Shelton, WA, and Dale Hodges of Medford Or; two great nephews, David Hodges of Alaska, and Gordon Hodges of Medford, Or; three great nieces, Kathy Morrisette, Penny Hodges and Mary Liston, all in Washington; as well as three great-great nephews; and four great-great nieces.
Louise was a tower of strength and dignity, very independent, caring and generous.
She will be missed by all her family and many friends who loved her.
Cleve K. Shafer
Prospect, Oregon gave him his start, and a good one it was. He loved God and his country, his family, his friends, Jack Russells, kitties, and his best friend, Jesus.
Cleve served in Vietnam and Timber Products and survived it all with humor and friends who now serve him well.
He is waiting for his wife Roxi and his beloved boys, Rex Shafer of Corvallis, Rod Shafer of Salem, Kenneth Thompson of Medford, and Bill Thompson of Central Point, and any friends and family who wish to join him.
He had a grandpa's license many times over and knew just what it took. Fishin' poles, unconditional love, hugs and laughter.
Mr. Shafer, 57, of Sams Valley, died Wednesday (Oct. 20, 2004) at his home with his loving wife at his side.
A service for Cleve K. Shafer will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 4, at the Eagle Point National cemetery.
