Oxford

William Newell Oxford, 89, of Breckenridge, Texas died May 26, 2000. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 30 at Stewart Funeral Chapel of Hollis. Burial will follow at Independence Cemetery.

He was born March 17, 1911 in Nocona, Texas to Robert William and Bessie McHam Oxford. He married Suda Ella Hughes November 13, 1933 in Hollis. He worked for the Davis Gin Co. of Altus for 28 years. He reared his family and farmed in the Madge and Vinson area. He retired from the Antioch, California School District in 1976 and moved to Wellington, Texas. In 1988 he moved to Odessa and finally to Breckenridge to be near his children.

He was preceded in death by his wife and sons Bert, Johnylee, and Roy and two daughters, Rhoda and Nina Marie.

Survivors include five sons, Claud of Wasilla, Alaska, Homer of Portland, Oregon, Marian of Breckenridge, Texas, Jack of Breckenridge, Shannon of Lodi, Calfornia; two daughters, Bernadette Littlefield of Breckenridge, and Linda Noble of McKinney,Texas; one brother Robert McHam Oxford of Walters; one sister, Boothe Lee of Bakersfield, California; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, numerous nices and nephews.

Phillips

Myra A. Phillips, 91, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Grace Living Center. Graveside services are set for 3 p.m. today at Altus City Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Phillips was born Feb. 25, 1909, in Olustee, to Charlie Bird Hensley and Nora Ada (Germany) Hensley. She married Phillip H. Phillips, Sr. in 1925, in Vernon, Texas. Together, they lived in Olustee until 1941, when they moved to Altus. Even though she did not work out of the home, she was a wife and seamstress for her daughter and grandchildren for many years. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Phillips was preceded in death by: her parents; four brothers; her husband Phil Phillips, Sr. in 1975; her daughter, Myra Sue Phillips in 1982; her son, Phil Phillips, Jr. in 1992; a grandson, Jay Don Phillips in 1974 and a great grandson, Kevin Reaser in 1990.

Survivors include: her daughter-in-law, Joy Phillips of Altus; four grandchildren, Phillis and John Findley of Bakersfield, Calif., Vickie and Bill Kline of Hobart, Sherrie and Joe Don Reaser of Altus and Phillip and Kaitlyn Phillis of Maryland. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Rabalais

Paul Arnold Rabalais, Sr., 81, long time Altus resident, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at his home in Altus. Funeral services were held yesterday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Kevin Ratterman officiating. Burial was at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.

Rabalais was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Alexandria, La., to George and Theresa Rabalais. He moved to Altus in the 1940s. He married Opal Duvall on Feb. 3, 1943, in Lawton. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1993.

He served his country in the Army, entering active service Nov. 6, 1941, at Camp Livingston, La. He participated in Rhineland Ardannas, Central Europe, Northern France and Normandy. Awards he received included: the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, EAME Service Ribbon and one silver Service Star. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 28, 1945, at Camp Chaffee, Ark.

He was a member of the American Legion in Altus, a volunteer with Jackson County Memorial Hospital, was a scout master in the Boy Scouts in the 1970s and had worked for 35 years as an electrician. He was on the electrical board.

Rabalais was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Opal and one infant son, Phillip Rabalais.

Survivors include: two sons, Paul Rabalais, Jr. and Tim Rabalais, both of Altus; one daughter, Renee Apollonio of Moore; one brother, George Rabalais of Alexandria, La.; one sister, Mary Day of Fouke, Ark. and four grandchildren, Brandon, April, Brooke and Kira.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Richardson

Ian Richardson, 65, died April 29, 2000, at VA Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis with Bob Garton officiating. Local arrangements are with Patterson-Greer Funeral Home.

Richardson was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Harmon County, and lived in the area until 1975. He then moved to Alabama where he was a salesman in the electronics industry before his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Michael Farris of Deridder, La.; one brother, Ron Richardson of Topeka, Kan.; two grandchildren, Jesse and Caitlin Farris of Deridder, La. and many cousins and friends.

Richeson

Richard Louis Richeson, 64, died suddenly at Sayre on Monday, May 1, 2000. A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery of Mangum with the Rev. Wendell Harris officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.

Richeson was born June 28, 1935, in Lerna, Ill., to William and Gertrude (Newman) Richeson. He married Sylvia Windle on Feb. 10, 1973, in Mattoon, Ill. He was a truck driver and had lived in Mangum since 1995. He enjoyed restoring old cars and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Richeson was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Verna Lou Richeson.

Survivors include: his wife Sylvia Richeson; his children, Ellie White and her husband Glen of Sayre, Patricia Morris and her husband Troy of Phoenix, Ariz., Richard Richeson of Mangum and Emmie Struck and her husband Jeromy of Mangum.

Robinson

Dominique Robinson, 19, Altus, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending with Brown/Christian Funeral Home of Altus.

Russell

Anna Russell, 90, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Altus City Cemetery with David Chittendon officiating. Burial is under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 29, 1909 to James and Laura Jane (Martin) Foreman in Young County, Texas. She married James Warren Russell Sept. 8, 1925 in Altus. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Donnie Joe Russell, eight brothers and a sister.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Box of Blair and Kaye and Virgil Talbot of Rancho Cordova, Calif; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Wesley James Russell, Fort. Morgan, Colo., Col Jerry Russell (USAF retired) and wife, Dorothy, Great Falls, Mont., SKCM Carl D. Russell (U.S. Navy retired), Kingsville, Texas and John Phillip Russell and wife, Lynn, `, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

Sanders

A.T. "Bo" Sanders, 78, Martha, died Monday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of God in Altus with the Rev. Randy Wishman officiating. Burial will follow at the Victory Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 10, 1922 in Whitesboro, Texas to William Boyd and Amber Brown Sanders. He attended school at Greenville High in Love County. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 and participated in several campaigns in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He obtained the rank of staff sergeant for Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 128th Infantry, and was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Victory Medal.

He married Edith Marie Stephens Jan. 20, 1947 in Wellington, Texas. He was a self employed plumber for 48 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Altus Church of God and taught Sunday School for more than 20 years at the Assembly of God Church in Levelland, Texas. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, and spending time with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; an infant son and a brother, W.C. Sanders.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Joe Wiggins of Elk City, Jean and Dean Olson of Olustee, Teresa and Ricky King of Martha; a son, Wayne Sanders, Syracuse, Neb.; five sisters, Muriel Fincher, Tulia, Texas, Billy Barfield, Amarillo, Texas, Jessie Orr, Tulia, Texas, Pauline Hoyler, Dimmitt, Texas and Jean Hedrick, Flower Mound, Texas; four brothers, John Sanders, Marlow, Eddie and Eldon Sanders, Levelland, Texas and James Sanders, Tulia, Texas; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Sloan

Velma Sloan, 95, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Smith

Joe Robey Smith, 68, Frederick died Saturday at the Memorial Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Frederick under the direction of Jackson Funeral home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Frederick to Dent Delbert and Frances (Robey) Smith. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1948 and attended Oklahoma State University. He married Mary Pearl Roberts Nov. 24, 1951. He served in the United States Army in Korea.

He was a third generation cotton buyer, retiring as a vice-president with Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. of Memphis, Tennessee. He was past president of the Oklahoma and Texas Cotton Associations. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Lions Club, Frederick Quarterback Club and the Frederick Golf and Country Club. He was an Future Farmers of America Honorary Farmer, a member of the OSU Posse Club and a fan of the Frederick Bombers.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Pearl; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dent David Smith of South Haven, Miss., Robert Robey and Denise Smith of Collierville, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Mike Wynn of Frederick and Jalyn and Steve Williams of San Marcos, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Tommye Smith of Moore; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Frances and Bob Copeland of Frederick and Kathleen and Richard Trautman of Oklahoma City; ten grandchildren, Jenny, Eli, and Calvin Wynn of Frederick, Robyn Williams of Austin, Texas; and Luke Williams of San Marcos, Texas, Heather, Stephanie and Caitlyn Smith of South Haven, Miss., Matthew Robey Smith and Wesley Dent Smith of Collierville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carolyn Smith and his great-grandmother, Inez Robey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Frederick School Enrichment Foundation.

Thomas-Callins

Jeanette Victoria Thomas-Callins, 60, died Sunday. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Reggie Hamilton and the Rev. Samuel Callins. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery of Mangum.

She was born Oct. 29, 1939, Columbia, South Carolina. She spent several of her childhood years in Mangum before moving to Battle Creek, Mich. with her family. She returned to Mangum and married James A. Callins Nov. 10, 1961. She lived most of her adult life in Mangum before moving to Elk City in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her step-father, Leon Skinner; three sisters, Mary and Martha Littlejohn and Viola Barron.

Survivors include her mother, Ella Skinner of Mangum; daughters, Kimberly of the home, Brenda of Oklahoma City, Bobbi and her husband James Atkison of Elk City, Lisa Drew of Mangum and their father, James Callins also of Mangum; a sister, Tina Callins and her husband Sam Callins of Mangum; a step-brother Johnny Frank Skinner and wife Eva of Ennis, Texas; two grandchildren, James Arnell Callins of Elk City and Travonte Drew of Mangum and a friend Elizabeth Lane of Mangum; many nieces and nephews.
