Eddie Mariano
Eddie Mariano, 75, of Bethel died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital.
He was born July 27, 1927, in the Craig community in Pittsburgh County to Nick and Alice (Parkison) Mariano.
Mariano graduated from Haileyville High School in 1945.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he worked as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad before retiring after 44 years.
He married Peggy Ann Henry on Aug. 19, 1950, in Haileyville.
Mariano was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Shawnee.
He and his wife lived in the Bethel Acres community since 1954. He was a 21-year member of the volunteer fire department, retiring as captain.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Mariano, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Angela Mariano of Greenbrier, Ark., and Don and Tamara Mariano of Choctaw; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Rose and John Milsap of Checotah; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wallace and Lillie Henry of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Chris Mariano, Gina Mariano, Russell Mariano, Taylor Mariano and Jerrid Bolt; and many friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Jimmy Don Gibson officiating. The casket will remain open until service time and will not be opened after. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Jennie Coon Cotanny
Konawa resident Jennie Coon Cotanny, 75, died Thursday at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada.
Survivors include son, Dennis Cotanny of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Bianca and Kenneth Lawrence and DiAnn and Sam Wheeler, both of Konawa; daughter-in-law, Catherine Cotanny of Tecumseh two sisters-in-law, Lorene Williams of Oklahoma City and Eliza Coon of Sasakwa; 16 grandchildren and 16 grandchildren.
A wake service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the family home in Konawa.
Funeral services
will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa with the Rev. Ed George and the Rev. Franklin Harjo officiating.
Burial will follow at Coon Family Cemetery under the direction of Pickard- Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Mary Whittall
Shawnee resident Mary Whittall, 91, died Thursday in Shawnee.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Tim Walker and the Rev. W.F. Crow officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Jodie VanBuren
Jodie VanBuren, 82, died Tuesday in Harrah.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Stephen Winfree of Sunnyside, Wash.; a son, Jim VanBuren of Carter; a sister, Joyce Wayne of Elk City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Harrah First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Eubanks officiating. Burial follows at Carter Cemetery in Carter, Okla.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.
Floyd William DeWeber
Floyd William "Mr. Christmas" DeWeber, 84, of Tecumseh died Friday.
He was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Paden, Okla., to Prince William and Verna Leona (Worley) DeWeber.
He attended school at Paden and was a 1937 graduate of Paden High School. He attended A&M in Stillwater and Central State University in Edmond. He later attended bakery college at Okmulgee Tech.
DeWeber served in the Civil Conservation Corps in 1934. He worked at a garage in Tecumseh before going to school at Okmulgee Tech. He later worked at Tinker Air Force Base in 1952 and retired in 1971.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
DeWeber married Juanita Brooks on June 10, 1951, in Tecumseh.
He became well known for his annual Christmas decoration and light display in Tecumseh. For more than 40 years, he and his wife welcomed visitors to the display and handed out candy canes to the children. They were honored last December as "Mr. and Mrs. Christmas" during the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph DeWeber; and three sisters, Fay DeWeber, Audrey Marquez, and Geneva Horton.
Survivors include his wife Juanita DeWeber of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Dale Tilbury of Midwest City and Glenda and Danny Jolly of Pauls Valley; one son, Eric DeWeber of Tecumseh; niece and spouse, Betty and Jack Brown of Meeker; three sisters, DeWilma Adams of Tecumseh, Dormi Lee Carver of Macomb and Geraldine "Gerry" Fortson of Tecumseh; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Bernice DeWeber of Benicia, Calif.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel of Tecumseh with the Rev. Kenny Myers, pastor of the First Free Will Baptist Church and the Rev. Delbert Akin officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
William Robert Miles
William "Bill" Robert Miles, 69, of Tecumseh died Friday.
He was born April 19, 1933, in Tecumseh to Buster and Audria (White) Miles.
He worked in the oil fields and later as a supply technician at Tinker Air Force Base.
Miles served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Shirley N. Nelms on Aug. 1, 1980.
Miles lived in the Tecumseh area all his life.
He was a member of the Church of the Living God in Shawnee, the American Legion, the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge No. 69 AF and AM, a lifetime member of the VFW and the DAV, and a 32nd degree Mason with the McAlister Consistory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Miles; sister, Jewel Morris; and daughter, Linda Miles.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Miles of the home; five daughters, Deborah McFarland of Shawnee, Terri Scarberry of Tecumseh, Angela Johnson of Earlsboro, Tina Fogarascher of Portland, Ore., and Melissa Popperwell of Portland, Ore.; one son, Stephen Miles of Portland, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Diana Nealy and Kelli Burton; stepson, Michael Barnett; sister-in-law, Carol Miles of Harrah; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Gail Nelms of Tecumseh and Gene and Judy Nelms of Wenatchee, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; four great-granchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel of Tecumseh with Robert and Freda Ingram officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
George W. Shaw
George Willard Shaw, 88, of Macomb died Thursday at his son's home in Tecumseh.
Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Kim Shaw of Macomb, and John and Judy Shaw of Tecumseh; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at NcNeil's Mustang Funeral Service of Mustang.
Burial will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
Ethel L. Ritchie
Ethel L. Coffey Ritchie, 96, Tecumseh, died Friday in a local nursing home.
She was born April 20, 1906, in Macomb to Avery Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Rowan McGlasson.
She was married to Chattie Coffey in 1922. She later married Walter Ritchie on Jan. 26,1952, in Shawnee. She lived in Macomb and the Shawnee area most of her life.
Survivors include her daughter Norma Biagi, Annabella, Utah; two sons, Art Coffey, Seminole, and Perry Coffey, Shawnee; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents her husband Walter, one stepdaughter, Loretta Grove, one brother, Jasper McGlasson, one stepsister, Mamie Harden; and one daughter, Shirley Ann Coffey.
Services are 2 p.m., Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Bryant. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Travis Dean Scarberry
Travis Dean Scarberry, 25, of McLoud died April 21.
He was born June 5, 1976, in Shawnee, the son of Larry and Dolores Scarberry.
Scarberry attended McLoud schools and Rose State College.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Carl Scarberry; two nephews, Andrew and Zachary; grandparents Roy and Norma Scarberry; and many other relatives and friends.
Services for Scarberry were Thursday at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, McLoud, with pastor David Trammel officiating. He was buried in Dale Cemetery.
James Jones
James "Jamie" J. Jones, 81 of Shawnee died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Keley Wise Sr.
Keley Wise Sr., 77, of Konawa died Saturday at his home.
Survivors include four sons, Eric Wise of Seminole, Kaylon Wise of East Helena, Mont., Duke Allen Wise of Davis, Calif., and Jeremiah Lee Wise of Tulsa; six daughters, Bessie Wise of Oklahoma City, Ruth Ann McGlory of Topeka, Kan., Cindy Lou Griffitts of Wichita, Kan., Joyce Ann Williams of Konawa, Evangeline Stallings of Tulsa and Kathylon Sue Wise of Bowlegs, Okla.; two brothers, Alford Wise and William Wise of Phoenix, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Wake services will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa. Funeral services
will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Springs Baptist Church of Sasakwa, Okla., with the Rev. Dan Factor officiating. Burial will be at Rock Springs Church Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Denise D. Maples
Shawnee resident Denise D. Maples, 92, died Sunday, Jan. 11, at a Shawnee hospital.
She was born July 15, 1911, in Corona, Kan., to Frank and Augustine (DuFaux) DeLisse.
She grew up in Schulter and worked as a registered nurse.
She married Fred Maples.
She was active in Cub Scouts in the Oklahoma City area.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Fred Maples.
Survivors include her two sons, Mike Maples and wife, Carolyn, of Austin, Texas, and Pat Maples and wife, Linda, of Roanoke, Texas; two grandsons, Mike Maples and wife, Liz, of Austin, Texas, and Benton Maples and wife, Julie, of Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel. A private family committal service will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery.
Brandon David Barfield
Former Shawnee resident Brandon David Barfield died Friday, Jan. 9, at Swedish Medical Center in Inglewood, Colo., following a skiing accident. He was 21 years old.
He was born July 6, 1982, in Midwest City to David Franklin and Brenda Jean (Vessels) Barfield.
He attended South Rock Creek School and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 2000.
He went on to Oral Roberts University where he was studying youth ministry.
He was an assistant manager for Sonic in Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, C.D. Barfield; his stepgrandmother, Beatrice Wise, and one uncle, Tom Barfield.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Brenda and Lloyd Wittmann of Shawnee; his father and stepmother, David and Joyce Barfield of Oklahoma City; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Misti and Brandon Draper, Midwest City; Breann Barfield, Oklahoma City; Allana Wittmann, Utopia, Texas; Shannon and David Cook, Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jessica Wittmann, Shawnee; his fiancee, Amanda Lauridsen; grandparents, Kenneth and Clarice Vessels, Mead, and Julia A. Barfield, Midwest City; stepgrandparents, Ernest Wise, Shawnee; Ray and Alma Friesen, Edmond, and many other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee. Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rock Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A dinner for family and friends will be served at South Rock Creek Baptist Church after the services.
