Steven Lee Floyd
Steven Lee Floyd of Shawnee died Monday at his residence. He was 43.
He was born Sept. 17, 1957, in Shawnee to Ben Preston Floyd Jr. and Nona Lee (Seaborn) Floyd.
Floyd, who attended Shawnee High School, worked in the construction business until ill health forced his retirement.
He was married to Lori O'Connor in May 1995. He had lived in Shawnee all of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lori O'Connor Floyd; and one brother, Ben Preston Floyd III.
Survivors include one son, Christopher Floyd, Shawnee; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Janie Floyd, Tecumseh; Benny and Julie Floyd, Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, Dian and David Webber, Norman; and several nieces and nephews, aunt and cousins.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family has designated The Arthritis Foundation, 1330 E. Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Ga. 30309, as appropriate for memorials.
Glenn Elmer Spicer
Glenn Elmer Spicer, Prague, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 71.
He was born April 17, 1929, in Paden to Charley B. and Nana Pauline (Davis) Spicer.
Spicer grew up in Okfuskee County and graduated from Paden High School in 1949. He moved back to Oklahoma after living in California for 50 years.
He retired from Pacific Bell Telephone Co. as a supervisor. Spicer was a Navy veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Prague.
He married Betty Jo (Hessman) Coleman July 4, 1998, in Lincoln County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Mary Jane Spicer; and a sister, Beverly Cerney.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Spicer, Prague; son, Charles R. Spicer, Canyon Country, Calif.; daughter, Kathy Crocker, Canyon Country, Calif.; stepchildren, Jerry Coleman, Shirley Bland and Robin Cornelius, all of Prague; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow at the Paden Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Harvey Koester
Harvey Koester, longtime Chandler resident, died Tuesday.
Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.
Richard Larimore Smith
Richard Larimore Smith, Shawnee, died Tuesday at a local nursing home. He was 89.
Smith was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Seminole to John and Anna Smith. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1929.
Smith attended Oklahoma Baptist University from 1929-30 and Oklahoma Military Academy from 1930-31. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1933.
On May 6, 1939, he married Gwendolyn Iris Cornwell in Sullivan, Ind. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Masonic Lodge in Britton, Okla. He moved back to Shawnee from Colorado in July 1997.
He retired from Exxon Oil Co. in 1970, and from the Oklahoma Tax Commission in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1989, and son-in-law, James R. Butts, in 1997.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Butts, Shawnee; nephew, Rick Cornwell, Highpoint, N.C.; two cousins, Irene Carter, Dallas, Texas, and Dorothy Mamel, Minnesota; friends, C.L. and Betty Shepherd, Shawnee; and other relatives, Verna Dean, Bernice Butts, Rosa and George Meneely, Mary and Mike Crooks, William Butts, all of Shawnee; and Alma Butts, Maryland.
Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Blackburn Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church memorial fund.
Erewe Willis Abbott Hitt Jesinger
Erewe Willis Abbott Hitt Jesinger, formerly from the Trousdale and Wanette area, died Feb. 25 in Port Angeles, Wash. She was 97.
She was born Nov. 3, 1903, in Bailey, Texas, to Benjamin Franklin and Tennie Olena Sudderth Abbott.
Before statehood, they moved to Trousdale, where she attended school.
In 1921, she married B. Delbert Hitt. They were later divorced. In 1944, she moved to Port Angeles, Wash.
She owned and operated Pacific Meats in Port Angeles, Wash. On June 26, 1949, she married Leonard Jesinger in Port Angeles, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Jesinger, in 1979; one son, Herman Hitt; two daughters, Roberta Sewell and Arletta Baker; one brother, Otis Abbott, and three sisters, Frankie Hund, Leona Smith and Loraine Clark.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Franklin Hitt of Port Angeles, Wash.; sisters, Nola Lawson of Wanette; Francis Grisham of Oklahoma City; Farrell Wilson of Orange, Calif.; Bonnie Paine of Nashville, Tenn.; Lois Abbott of Indianapolis, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in Washington at an earlier date. Graveside services
will be 1 p.m. Friday at Wanette Cemetery, Wanette. Yoakum-Damet Funeral Home, Purcell, is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Bohannon
Shawnee resident Hazel Bohannon died Thursday in a local hospital. She was 86.
Mrs. Bohannon was born on Jan. 20, 1913, in Shawnee, the daughter of Marvin and Kitty (Robinson) Watts.
She married Orville W. Bohannon on March 4, 1931, in Shawnee.
She attended South Rock Creek School.
Mrs. Bohannon worked for W.R. Jones for 20 years.
She attended Fairview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Bohannon; her parents, Marvin and Kitty Watts; and a daughter, Linda Ragsdale.
Survivors include her daughter, Rheta Whitten, Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Rickey Allen and Jary Bohannon, Shawnee; two brothers, Vic Watts, Wewoka, and Jack Watts, Konawa; a sister, Christine Cranfield, California; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel in Shawnee with the Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.
Hiram L. Burgess
Hiram L. "Sarg" Burgess, Harjo, died Thursday at his home. He was 80.
Burgess was born on Dec. 11, 1918, in Roanake, Ala.
He married Mamie Gertrude "Gertie" Swarb on March 25, 1974, in Hazel Green, Ala.
He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean conflict.
Burgess worked in aircraft maintenance at Tinker Air Force Base.
He was a member of the Earlsboro First Baptist Church and the Tecumseh American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Burgess.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Burgess, Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Frances Morman, LaGrange, Ga., and Sandra Umberandt, Toccoa, Ga.; three stepsons, Eston Swarb, McLoud, Harold Swarb, Maud, and Ken Swarb, Monahans, Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services
will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Tecumseh Mission Cemetery in Tecumseh with the Rev. Jim Kirkendall officiating.
Services are under the direction of Knight Funeral Home in Maud.
Ruby Brown Crumpley
Ruby Brown Crumpley, Oklahoma City, died Thursday in an Oklahoma City nursing home. She was 85.
Mrs. Crumpley was born on Feb. 9, 1914, in Fanshaw, to Joe and Emmie (Walden) Brown.
She married Edgar Lee Crumpley on Feb. 6, 1931, in Okemah.
Mrs. Crumpley was a homemaker and a former Okfuskee County resident.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Crumpley; a son; and four daughters.
Survivors include three sons, Jimmy and Loyd Crumpley, both of Oklahoma City, and Delbert Crumpley, Odessa, Texas; a daughter, Janice Glentzer, Independence, Mo.; five brothers, Forrest Brown, McAlester, Clarence Brown, Santa Anna, Calif., Phoenix Brown, Vinita, and Arnold and Harlan Brown, both of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Verna Henshaw, Okemah, Lola Smith, Coalgate, Hazel Henshaw, Clovis, Calif., Vada Moses, Collinsville, and Eva Crow, Ada; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with the Rev. Betty Wideman officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Homer Dale Laxton
Seminole resident Homer Dale Laxton died Thursday in San Angelo, Texas. He was 65.
Laxton was born on Aug. 18, 1934, in Snomac, Okla., the son of Homer Franklin and Viola (Taylor) Laxton.
He married Ruby Lee Brewer Conger on Oct. 27, 1973.
He attended school in Bowlegs.
Laxton worked as a supervisor with B.K. Construction Inc. in Wylie, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Viola Laxton; a sister, Marcella Lane; and four brothers, Glenn, Albert, Carl and Lloyd Laxton.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Laxton of Shawnee; two sons, Scott and Kelly Laxton, both of Moab, Utah; three daughters, Linda Clark, Konawa, Brenda Ewing, Tulare, Calif., and Marilyn Laxton, Konawa; a stepdaughter, Yuvone Conger, Seminole; two brothers, Bob Laxton, Athens, Ala., and Floyd Laxton, Seminole; two sisters, Maxine Davis, Laverne, and Carolyn Yerby, Seminole; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.
Burial will be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Gary Dewayne Harrison
The Rev. Gary Dewayne Harrison, Seminole, died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Harrison was born on March 4, 1953, in Tahlequah, to Jacob and Zonie (Gipson) Harrison.
He attended Wewoka Public Schools and graduated from New Lima High School.
He was a lifelong resident of Seminole.
The Rev. Harrison worked with the "Hooked On Jesus" prison ministry and was a past-president of United Tribes for Christ Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Zonie Harrison, and a sister, Katherine Harrison.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Harrison, Seminole; three sons, Dale and Jacob Harrison, both of the home, and Jessie Harrison, Konawa; two daughters, Amy and Autumn Harrison, both of the home; a brother, Larry Harrison, Seminole; a sister, Nancy Goate, Oklahoma City; and two grandchildren, Jordon and Kaleb Harrison, Seminole.
Prayer vigil will be 6 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel and at 7 p.m. Monday at Ministry of Life Church in Wewoka.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ministry of Life Church in Wewoka under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
