Mabel Ruth Gillian
Longtime Chandler teacher Mabel Ruth Gillian died Monday in Oklahoma City. She was 96.
The daughter of Samuel N. and Lavada (Davenport) Gillian was born May 14, 1905, in Chandler.
She graduated from Chandler High School in 1923, the valedictorian of her class. She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, majoring in mathematics.
After her 1927 graduation, she returned to Chandler and began her teaching career. She received her master's degree from Central State University in 1958. Her teaching career spanned 43 years at Chandler Public Schools.
The year she retired, 1970, she was "Alumnus of the Year."
Miss Gillian was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she taught Sunday school and served in many other capacities.
Miss Gillian was also a member of Chapter AN, PEO, for 67 years and the Lincoln County Retired Teachers' Association.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and sister-in-law, her twin sister, Maude Simos, one nephew and one brother-in-law.
Survivors include her sister, Edna Severe of Enid; her niece, Mary Hudson of Sapulpa; one nephew, Bill Severe of Washington, D.C.; one great-niece, Sara Barteau of Sterling, Va.; two great-nephews, Steven Hudson of Chantilly, Va., and Bob Hudson of Kellyville, Okla., as well as friend Thelma Clayton of Chandler. She is also survived by other great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler. The Rev. Fred Rider and the Rev. Hugh Willoby will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
Jerry Donn Toles
Jerry Donn Toles, 46, Prague, died Monday near Jackson, Ga.
Toles was born Sept. 7, 1954, in Parkland, Okla., the son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Raines) Toles.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
On May 1, 1987, he and Janice Keene were married in Seymour, Texas.
He was a truck driver.
His brother, Donald Ray Toles, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Toles, of the home; his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Toles of Prague; brothers and sister-in-law, Charles and Lori Toles and Kenneth Toles, all of Prague, and his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Don McCoy of Bristow.
A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Parkland Cemetery, near Chandler. Gerald Rains will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Robert Laughlin
Robert "Gene" Laughlin, 79, Oklahoma City died Tuesday.
Laughlin was born March 13, 1922, in Wanette to Alvin and Gladys (Kersey) Laughlin.
He served in World War II for the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
Survivors include his wife, Bea, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Pat Laughlin, Harrah; two daughters and son-in-law, Glenda Laughlin, and Shirley and Tom Ledbetter, all of Oklahoma City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Sharon, Oklahoma City; Pete and Jeanie, Texas; Dwight and Jeanie, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Ken Mullins, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rhonda.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah. Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery.
Houston Ross
Seminole resident Houston Ross died Friday at University Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 77.
Ross was born May 23, 1922, in Seminole County near Sylvian, Okla., to Chilley Ross and Anochee (Tiger) Ross. He married Jennie (Dirt) Ross of Earlsboro on Sept. 15, 1979, in Seminole.
A lifelong Seminole county resident, he attended Riverside Grade School near Little and Oklahoma Presbyterian Church School in Durant. He retired from the city of Shawnee in 1985. He worked for the street and sanitation departments.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Native American Ceremonial Camp Grounds and Gar Creek Ceremonial Grounds. He was Ceyvha Band chairman, former council member for the Seminole Nation and a member of the Native American Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ross of the home in Earlsboro; two daughters, Sherri and Patti Ross, both of Norman; stepson, Ted Harjo, Shawnee; sister, Elsie Spencer, Seminole; brother, James Fife, Seminole; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nora Fife Tiger.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jackson Deer and the Rev. Paul B. Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Ross Family Cemetery, north of Seminole.
Trent William Mackey
Trent William Mackey died Friday. He was 7 weeks old.
Trent was born May 13, 1999, in Midwest City to Thomas and Lynette Mackey.
Survivors include his parents, a brother, Trevor, and sister, Morgan, all of the home; grandparents, Richard and Vicky Mackey and Doyle and Lou Jean Tampleton; great-grandparents, Horace Petete and Marie and Everett Skinner, all of Holdenville; and many other relatives.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at University Baptist Church. Burial will be at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home, Midwest City.
Ray Brown
Shawnee resident Ray Brown died Saturday at his home. He was 79.
Services are pending with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
James D. Westfall
James Delphus Westfall died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 76.
Westfall was born June 6, 1923, in Hot Springs, Ark., to James E. and Fern (Smith) Westfall. He married Wanda Williams on Oct. 16, 1956, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. After his service, he worked for IBM Corp. for many years.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Sue Williams, Columbus, Ga.; nieces, Nancy S. Bruce and Sally S. Jones, both of Columbus, Ga.; three great-nieces, two great-great-nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death his wife on March 21, 1995; his parents; one brother; and one sister.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wellston Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler, with the Pastor Carroll M. Swenson officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Loyd Horton
Loyd Horton died Saturday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 59.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague. Further arrangements are pending.
Viola Elizabeth Givens
Viola Elizabeth "Bo" Givens died Tuesday in Harrah. She was 79.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery, Midwest City. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.
Pearl Guinn
Shawnee resident Pearl Guinn died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 88.
Mrs. Guinn was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Sparks to Will and Cordelia (Thomas) Behrnes. She graduated from Willsetta Schools and was a homemaker.
She married Ralph Guinn on Sept. 8, 1931, in Chandler. She had lived in Pottawatomie County for the past 60 years and was a member of Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Merritt, Shawnee; Novella Cordrey, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Mary Cordrey and Terri and Roger Scott, all of Oklahoma City; Alisa and Daniel Beal, both of Harrah; Jon Merritt and Rusty Merritt, both of Shawnee; two great-grandchildren, Beau Carter and Christopher Scott; foster son, Andy Credille; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ida James, Prague; Roy and Ola Davis, Seminole; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, four sisters and two son-in-laws.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Central Church of Christ, 10th and Bell, with Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Betty Joyce Hanmer
Betty Joyce Hanmer of Sparks died Saturday at her home. She was 70.
She was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Anaheim, Calif., to Rube A. and Annie H. (Whittaker) Petty. She was a graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City, where she was the Oklahoma state high school tennis champion in 1947. She later attended The University of Oklahoma, Santa Ana College and graduated from California State University in Long Beach, Calif. with a bachelor of science degree in business education, graduating summa cum laude.
Mrs. Hanmer then worked for the Veteran's Administration, Air Force recruiting, Long Beach Shipyard, Defense Contract Audit Agency and Tinker Air Force Base accounting.
She married Donald B. Hanmer on April 4, 1951.
Her parents, one son and two brothers preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Donald B. Hanmer of Sparks; three sons, Frederick J. Hanmer of Midwest City, Robert J. Hanmer of Harrah and Thomas J. Hanmer of Chandler; one daughter, Nancy J. Bacon of Texas; three grandchildren, Jay-Bob Hanmer of Chandler; Anthony J. Bacon of Sparks and Laurie D. Bacon of Texas; two brothers, Carl A. Petty of North Carolina, J.W. Petty of Colorado, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Sparks with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating. Burial will follow at the White Dove Cemetery in Sparks under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.
Charles Ray Miller
Charles Ray Miller of Goldsby died Sunday at a Purcell hospital. He was 67.
Miller was born May 19, 1932, in Wanette, the oldest of seven children born to William Ray Miller and Lucille Marie Laurent.
He was raised on a farm in Wanette and graduated from Wanette High School. He later joined the U.S. Navy and became a Navy Seabee.
During his four years of service, he was stationed in Japan, Alaska and Korea. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he returned home to Wanette and married Joann Hardin.
He attended Oklahoma City University before starting a career as a professional contract painter. Due to poor health, he retired in 1998.
In 1968, he and his wife moved to Goldsby. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Bill and Lucille Miller; his wife JoAnn in 1983 and two sisters.
Surviving are two brothers, Ralph Miller and wife Darla of Goldsby; Dale Miller and wife Carole of Goldsby; two sisters, Peggy Bouska and husband Carl of Slaughterville; Nancy Matsumara and husband Matt of Lubbock, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Officiating will be the Rev. Dexter Blevins. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery.

L.R. "Hub" Batt of McLoud died Sunday at a McLoud nursing home. He was 88.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of McLoud with the Rev. Cyndy Schillinger officiating. Burial will follow in Jamison Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
