A.C. Wheeler
A.C. Wheeler, 74, Geary, died Monday.
He was born July 3, 1925, in Vamoosa to Dolly Wheeler and John Wheeler. He was a carpenter, who lived most of his life in the Konawa area before moving to Geary eight years ago.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Debbie Wheeler, Konawa; Jackie and Maggie Wheeler, Geary; Elmer and Janice Wheeler, Ada; Sammy and Diane Wheeler, Sasakwa; Willie and Tammy Wheeler, Geary; five daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and John Hilton, Ada; Patricia and Sam Jolley, Richardson, Texas; Barbara and Carl Hopper, Konawa; Rebecca and Shawn Castleberry, Geary; Marie and Tim West, El Reno; two sisters, Anna Bounds, Konawa; Judy Reynolds, Florida; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel, Konawa. Burial will follow in Vamoosa Cemetery.
Joe F. Carpitcher
Joe F. Carpitcher died March 23 at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. He was 66.
Carpitcher was born Dec. 30, 1933, at Konawa to Sam and Opal (Dorman) Carpitcher. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He married Jo Ann Rogers at Prescott, Ariz., in 1959. They lived in Norman 27 years before moving to Canadian, Okla. He was a cement mason.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Carpitcher, Canadian; two daughters, Maranda Carpitcher, Canadian; Debbie Hartwig, Newalla; three sons, Joe Carpitcher Jr. and Richard Carpitcher, both of Norman; Odie Carpitcher, Canadian; two brothers, Gebony Carpitcher, Salt and Sea Beach, Calif.; Curtis Carpitcher, Okemah; sister, Nig Harjo, Seminole; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Merritt Funeral Service Chapel, Eufaula, with the Rev. Arthur Wayne Carpitcher officiating.
Ruth Frances Oleson
Ruth Frances Oleson died Tuesday in Shawnee. She was 86.
She was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Chandler. She was the daughter of Alfred Arthur and Nancy Ann (Garrison) Mascho.
She married Adrain Charles Oleson Dec. 26, 1931, in Norman.
Mrs. Oleson was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Chandler.
Survivors include her son, Charles Oleson, Miami, Fla.; brother, Bill Mascho, Chandler; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, six sisters, and one son, Grant Oleson.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with Jeramie Beller officiating under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.
Mattie Louise Cole
Lifelong Seminole resident Mattie Louise Cole died Tuesday at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee. She was 65.
She was born June 16, 1934, in Seminole to Sidney E. McGinnis and Bessie Naomi (Hudson) McGinnis.
She married LeRoy Cole Oct. 28, 1989, in Seminole.
Mrs. Cole was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her father and an infant daughter, Linda Dianne Kincannon.
Survivors include her mother, Bessie Naomi McGinnis, Seminole; husband, LeRoy Cole, of the home; sons, Jessie Ray Kincannon, Midwest City, and Ronnie Perry Kincannon, Moore; brothers, Gene McGinnis, Seminole, Jirl McGinnis, Seminole, and J.L. McGinnis, Checotah; and sisters, Lorene Quinalty, Seminole, and Pat Cheatham, Springdale, Ark.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.
Betty Matapene
Betty Matapene of Harrah died Wednesday. She was 61.
She was born to Louis and Thelma (Farmer) Fortune April 2, 1938, in California.
Survivors include her husband, Megal of the home; two daughters, Penny Matapene of Harrah; Pam Shepherd and husband Charles of Texas; one granddaughter, Megan Shepherd of Texas and many other family members and friends.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel, with burial at Memory Lane Cemetery, both located in Harrah.
Charles Cruce Thomas
Charles Cruce Thomas, 75, Shawnee, died Tuesday at his home.
Thomas was born June 19, 1924, in Ardmore, to Charles C. and Frankie C. Hamilton Thomas.
He grew up in the Mary Niblack Community of Ardmore, and attended school at Springdale and Dixon.
He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He worked in farming and retail sales.
Thomas moved to the Shawnee and Tecumseh area in the late 1970s.
He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frankie Thomas; and a brother, Ted Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, Van Thomas, Yukon; Doug Thomas, Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Emily Thomas, Jacksonville, Fla.; Elizabeth Ritter, Cedar Lake; a sister, Jean Lynch, Mustang; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rosehill Cemetery in Ardmore.
Wanda Lee Sheppard
Seminole resident Wanda Lee (Woody) Sheppard died Thursday at her home. She was 61.
Mrs. Sheppard was born Jan. 10, 1939 in Shawnee to Harvey H. and Nova Helen (Branscum) Woody. She married Ronald G. Sheppard on Jan. 16, 1959, in Wetumka.
She was a home economics teacher at Seminole High School from 1961 to 1976 and operated Wanda Lee's Hallmark from 1976 until 1985. She graduated from East Central University with a master of education degree.
She was a member of the Harvey Road Baptist Church in Seminole, BPW and the Selectone's women's singing group.
Survivors include her parents, Harvey and Nova Woody, Shawnee; husband, Ronald G. Sheppard, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Nova Dawn and John Bivens, Seminole; daughter, Michelle Ronae Simmons, Tulsa; four grandchildren, Lindsey Dawn Bivens, Robert Grant Bivens, Jessie Ross Simmons and Jamaie Michelle Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Martha (Kendall) Branscum.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Seminole with the Rev. Robert Hightower and Tim Green officiating. Burial will be 10:30 a.m. at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Beatrice Lora Beasley
Seminole resident Beatrice Lora Beasley died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was the daughter of Lewis W. Brown and Myrtle (Warren) Brown.
She married Carl Edward Beasley, and he preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1997.
Mrs. Beasley was a homemaker and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Seminole.
Survivors include her daughter, Patsy Myers, Seminole; grandchildren, Terry Marshall, Jerry Marshall, Curtis Myers and Nannette Brown; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; niece, Tanya Glover, Tuscon, Ariz.; two cousins, Dorothy Fahle, Borger, Texas, and Roy Warren, Amarillo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Brown.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. David McDougal officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Gerald Dale Cook
Former Davenport resident Gerald Dale Cook died Wednesday in Tulsa. He was 69.
Cook was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Davenport to Lonnie and Zelma Owens Cook. He had lived in Tulsa the past 10 years, moving from Abilene, Texas.
He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and owned and operated an air and heating business. He was a member of the Gospel Celebration Fellowship Church in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Ginger Cook, Tulsa; daughter, Sharon Ward, Tulsa; brother, Glen Cook, Moore; two sisters, Freda Curry, Davenport; B.J. Carter, Midwest City; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud, with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating.
Omo Vivian Waggoner
Omo Vivian Waggoner died Wednesday in Prague. She was 86.
Mrs. Waggoner was born Oct. 20, 1913, to James Monroe and Sarah Ellen (Marler) Raines. She married James Lee Waggoner in June of 1960 in Grants, N.M. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Delores McCaslin, McLoud; three brothers, Onis Raines and Odell Raines, both of Prague; Inelo Rains, Fort Gibson; five sisters, Ovie Chastain and Loretta Kerr, both of Prague; Lodema Morrison and Dretha Smith, both of Muskogee; Dretta Smith, Van Buren, Ark.; three grandchildren, Pam Reynolds, Paden; Russell McCaslin, Wanette; and Steve McCaslin, McLoud; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1994; her parents and three brothers.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. David Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Little Cemetery.
Malcom Lee Murphy Jr.
Malcom Lee Murphy Jr. died Wednesday at his home in Moore. He was 71.
Murphy was born April 22, 1928, in El Reno. He had lived in Shawnee, Norman and Moore. He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Purdue University, where he studied mechanical engineering.
He married Annette Murphy on May 1, 1949. He worked for about 60 years building, refurbishing and servicing power plants throughout most of the United States, Central and South America. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Shawnee.
Survivors include his wife, Annette; sons, Malcom Lee "Kelly" Murphy III and William Henry Brandon "Bill" Murphy, both of the home; sister, Betty Ann Higgins, Sugarland, Texas; aunt, Francis Dailey, Oklahoma City; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Malcom Lee Murphy Sr. and mother, Marguerite Murphy.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, with Pastor Marshall Howard officiating.
